The Trickster Feedback (Patch 7.4.2 to 7.4.0 and the PTB)

I have been a Trickster main since day 1 on PlayStation console. When I first saw him in the PTB years ago I knew I loved him with his colorful, flashy, machine gun style knife throwing. Before patch 7.4.0 I thought the only thing The Trickster needed changed was reducing Main Event from 30 knives to 25 knives, because not once did I ever get Main Event more than 3 times per game. Then Made for This became part of the Survivor meta and I felt I made no progress catching survivors at loops.

Let’s start with my overall opinions of the current Trickster state as of 7.4.2. I am very happy with him. He feels fun to play, has a varietal kit to pressure survivors and can truly devastate in certain cases. I find myself laughing alongside The Trickster while playing at certain times from the the craziness of the trick blades, to the speed of Main Event in chase, and throwing survivors timing off with the iridescent photo card.

Patch 7.4.2 made The Trickster great again, probably the best out of all the the different variants of him in the last month. Memento Blades throw speed essentially became base kit which feels perfect, and you could still run Memento Blades for an even faster throw speed that is still not as ridiculously fast as the PTB which could injure survivors in as little as 2 seconds. The 66% Main Event throw speed multiplier is a night and day difference making Main Event viable, dangerous, and gives him the ability to shutdown a chase very quickly. Adding an extra second to Main Event makes a big difference in injuring a survivor in chase versus not especially if you are not running add ons that affect Main Event. And last but not least Increasing the laceration from 10 sec to 15 may be the most important thing when making his throwing knives viable. Before survivors could literally run around a rock for 10 seconds and laceration would decay before you could even get in a knife hit, but now survivors can run around whole loop structures and not lose any laceration. This alone makes throwing his blades more viable versus M1ing.

Honestly I think the 15 second laceration may actually be too much. I have only seen a couple of survivors lose almost any laceration in chase in the 5 days I have been playing him or maybe I just haven’t noticed because it made little difference in chase. And I haven’t even used any of his add ons that increase the time before decaying starts. I would not revert it back to 10 seconds but putting it at 12 or 13 seconds might make it feel less futile for survivors trying to bring down laceration, especially when he has add ons to increase this none the less. Also his Main Event throw rate with memento blades is just comically fast. I find myself laughing out loud at the speed at which some survivors go down to Memento Blade Main Event. His Fizz Spin Soda and Ji Woon Autograph add-ons feel completely useless as the pockets watch, lucky blade, tequila and wire add ons all have better effects than the other two add ons.

Even with all these buffs, I do not believe he is overpowered. While he excels in the 1 on 1 a decent team can still leave him with 0 sacrifices if they manage their time well doing generators. Plus staying hidden and keeping your distance from him are the best ways to counter him. I have yet to face him as a survivor but from what I have seen as a Trickster main over the last 5 days is that survivors can still out play him by keeping their distance and dodging, even at close range, and a good team can get the generators done and escape without suffering major casualties.

(See my thoughts on previous Trickster versions below)

PTB Trickster felt way to oppressive. 4 blades per second was too fast, death throes comp felt like a complete oversight with the changes to Main Event, getting Main Event in 3 knives with his new add ons was just ridiculous.

7.4.0 The removal of random spread recoil for console is amazing. I was getting so sick after all these hours of playing him and still missing a blade hit or more due to the recoil and not my own aim. The 4.6 movement speed felt great as he could keep up with survivors at high wall loops and not get left in the dust between looping and throwing knives. He felt so much better, but the throw rate was just on the slow side. 3 blades per second gave survivors nearly 3 seconds of reaction time before even getting injured and main event felt just on the slow side as well. It was sometimes better to just M1 or throw knives regularly than to activate Main Event in many scenarios. I wanted to see a compromise in the throw speed from the PTB compared to his base throw speed of 3 blades per second at like 3.5 blades per second. But this along with the laceration meter decaying after 10 seconds made you feel under more pressure than survivors just trying to keep the laceration up, and if you were at a jungle gym, you were better off just chasing with your bat. Overall the Trickster needed his throw rate increased to really feel good again otherwise M1ing was just a more viable option with his increased speed.

Patch 7.4.1 the new throw rate of Memento blades felt necessary on him. The speed felt good.
