Is it just me that feels like the new anti camp mechanic doesn't really help survivors much?

I can still pretty much patrol a hook and prevent a hook or tunnel if I want to.

The only thing it prevents is facecamping that was detrimental for killers in the first place.

I would say the new anticamping mechanic helps the killer more to teach them how to properly camp from the distance, to make survivors come for the unhook.

The only time I’ve ever had it activate was me intentionally facecamping someone with a 99% tombstone ready

Facecamping was detrimental but it was still an extremely frustrating thing to experience when you're the one on the hook, and BHVR wanted to cut down on it without completely invalidating camping as a tactic. It at least forces killers away from the hook which offers a little more room for survivors to make some kind of attempt to rescue.

It was never a magic fix-all for all camping. Just the worst kind.

It only prevents facecamping because it was only designed to prevent facecamping. It was never supposed to stop proxy camping. What you've described is a system working as intended. The amount of mental gymnastics required to spin a (much-needed) Survivor- sided change into a Killer buff is as incredible as it is depressing.

The AFC mechanic is basically exactly as effective as the base kit repair penalty for grouping up on gens is for gen rushing.

Both are now part of the core game mechanics, but actually make their respective problems worse by encouraging players to play even more efficiently (in this case proxy camping and spreading out on gens).

It's safe to say that since every single post about 'this mechanic appears to do nothing' is met with a snarky response of 'akshually it's anti-FACE camping' should be enough to tell you that this doesn't affect anyone's gameplay in the slightest, and might even be under tuned.

I'd actually prefer if they scrapped the whole AFC mechanic entirely and reverted Reassurance to it's PTB state, with one change: 'press e to cancel reassurance' for the hooked survivor.

It's not snarky, it's factual. You even referred to it as AFC yourself: Anti-Facecamp. There's no "akshually" about it, no-one is arguing semantics; Behaviour has made it clear what it's called and what it's intended to do. People are just pointing out that a system that was designed to stop A and was never designed to stop B will, in fact, be very bad at stopping B and shouldn't be judged on its failure to stop B.

Absolutely agree, not only did the afc mechanic teach killers that proxy camping is a better tactic but many survivors stopped bringing Reassurance thinking it wouldn't be needed as much.

I'm much better at camping hook now lol.

The way the devs worded it doesn't even mention the word face though, which I find silly.

"You probably don’t want to find yourself on the hook in the first place, but it can quickly become frustrating if the Killer decides to wait nearby, preventing all but the most coordinated of teams from rescuing you. Camping has long been a contentious topic: While there are times where camping is the smart thing for the Killer to do (if there are Survivors nearby, for example), there’s not much the Survivor being camped can do. To help in the most extreme cases, we are introducing a new feature which may give you a second chance. [...] This new mechanic is intended to address the most egregious camping scenarios, discouraging Killers from standing too close to a hooked Survivor for an extended period and creating opportunities for the other Survivors to make the save."

I feel proxy camping is still too close as when folks go for the save they still often get downed heh. They stand just at the right spot and don't move. Idk why they added face in the title when it's not in their description

Why is it quoting me lol bleh. Anyway I don't disagree as the title is still face camping I'm just pointing out their own words and how it implies other things.
