I like the idea behind Boon: Illumination, but it needs a buff

I want to preface this by saying that I do not think that Alan Wake's perks are bad, not even slightly, they're not as fun or as interesting as Nicolas Cage's or as meta-defining as Meg's, but I can respect perks that at least attempt to do something unique like Deadline and Champion of Light, and that brings us to Boon: Illumination

For those of you who have already forgotten, this is what Boon: Illumination does

In short, bless a totem, see all chests and gens in the boon's radius and get a 10% faster cleansing/blessing speed

I like the idea behind this, giving you and your teammates a way to identify objectives in a large area around the totem, while also making it easier for you to move your Boon around, is a very good idea for a perk due to how powerful information is, it also helps on Indoor maps like Lerys and Hawkins where the gen placements can sometimes be a bit of a mess to find, as well as possibly helping people on your team who don't have every gen spawn memorised, as well as synergising rather well with Circle of Healing, letting you and your buddies heal up quickly and instantly figure out where to go to get back on objectives, in this one screenshot Illumination is revealing 2 gens and a chest not counting the other 2 generators that were already finished, which I think is rather underrated for how easy this perk is to set up

However, this perk has one fatal flaw that prevents it from being absolutely amazing, you have to stand in the Boon's radius to get the effect, once you leave it, you instantly stop seeing the auras, this kind of prevents it from being a super worthwhile perk in my opinion since if you're in the radius looking for auras you're not doing objectives, and constantly dipping in and out eats up time, it also doesn't show totem placements, which are significantly less obvious then Gens are and required for this perk to function

How would I buff Illumination to be more viable? Simple, let it show totems, and make the effect linger for 10 seconds, I think Illumination is a pretty okay start for a legitimately good perk, it just needs a few buffs to be truly worthwhile, letting it show totems and making the effect lingering will make the perk better without making it stupidly overpowered I think, though I am open to suggestions/disagreements on how this perk should be buffed, if it even should be

So yeah, I think Illumination needs a buff, let me know what ya'll think

G'night

I was so underwhelmed by it. Would prefer someone to run Circle of Healing instead and that's saying something.

It really is. Experienced players can usually work out all the gens spawns so the only useful aspect of the perk is the extra cleansing and blessing speeds. But this is basically useless as it requires you to have your boon up first. It would be much better if they went with one of the following additional options:

    1. When any boon is active, gain a 10% faster increase to cleansing and blessing totems.
    2. When you have a lit Boon Totem, you cleanse or bless Totems 20% faster.
    3. When you have a lit Boon Totem, you bless Totems 60% faster.
    4. You cleanse or bless Totems 10% faster.

With #1 it can have some synergy in team use. A team that wants to have multiple people running boons might see some value out of it.

#2 makes it somewhat more useful to have a Boon up and move it around. It is already kind of pointless to move your boon around when it is already active, especially given the time it takes to reset it, it is basically throwing the match. By increasing the speeds

#3 is just the second option but making it so it only applies to blessing. With such an increased blessing speed, it might actually be useful to bless a totem in a safe area and then move it to a more high risk area.

#4 just removes the requirement to have a boon totem up first. As stated in option 2, it is usually pointless to bless another totem when you already have one up due to how much time it takes. This change might make the perk useful.

I personally would love to see them buff it with option 3 or 4. Those changes would make the boon somewhat useful and tactical even if still somewhat niche.

The issue with showing totems is the perk might destroy hexes a little too hard, when many complain that hexes are already unviable.
