Why can't I use 1 email address for both DBD account, and DBD forum account?

Apparently my account is gone now, I'm guessing there was a merge that happened in the past. Unfortunately I didn't even get an email about the merge.

So I create a new DBD account, but the DBD forum log in does not accept this saying a username with that email exists. So i have to create a DBD forum using a different email address. WHY???
