P100 Cosmetics Idea (Mostly Killer Sided)
HOT START I KNOW! Considering the debate and controversy surrounding the concept yeah yeah. But, with how much people have been ASKING for these, I think its fair to assume that adding rewards for reaching high milestones with killers and survivors alike would incentivise people to play more and more, isn't that a net benefit? More playtime, game is more popular, queues are shorter because more people are playing more often to try and achieve those milestones. Its a win for the community and a win for the devs realistically, considering they've shown that FOMO isn't really as big of a factor as it seems.
So, what's the idea, then? We've already seen the new Cosmetic type, Visceral. Why stop with a unique Mori? I propose a new Cosmetic type that I think a lot of people would find more valuable than most others, however it would only largely work for Killers so I'll focus on those for now.
The new Cosmetic type is called Stained, a set that is bloodstained by the legacy the character has created.
At P25, you would unlock the Killer's Weapon Cosmetic. At P50, you would unlock the Killer's Body Cosmetic. At P75, you would unlock the Killer's Headpiece cosmetic. At P100, you would unlock the Killer's Power Cosmetic.
That's right! Power cosmetics, special and rare exclusive to the Stained set you achieve by reaching each of the four milestones, with the rarest and most important of the four pieces unlocked at P100 as a unique reward for your dedication.
There are benefits and downsides to this idea:
Benefits - Killer powers are generally seen the most and so you would get plentiful value out of a unique Power cosmetic as you would see it more often than a body or headpiece. Also, Killer Powers are generally the same regardless of cosmetic so I think it could provide a lot more space for expression and for cool outfits. Plus this gives the design team a hell of a fun time experimenting with all manners of particles and interesting effects to reward players.
Cons - I assume Killer powers are largely kept the same to keep an identifiable feature regardless of whatever Cosmetic set a Killer may have. As well as this may confuse newer players who might see the same Killer with two power designs and struggle to recognize them as the same style. Also, there are a number of killers without unique Power customization options, such as Deathslinger's Power being their Weapon, or Spirit's phase which is largely just auditory.
The answer? Keep them largely similar but recognizable, similar to how Bloodied Cosmetics are very similar but recognizable with their effects. Also, for Killers that have no distinct Power to make a unique Cosmetic for, you just have to get a little creative. Newer players may struggle regardless and I don't think the power design is necessarily how they differentiate the Killer so I doubt it'll have much of an effect on that.
For the Cosmetic sets themselves I think they'd be largely about taking the initial concept of the Killer's design and furthering it with the idea that they've been in the Entity's realm for a long time and how that would deform them. I can't really create concept art at the moment and I don't want to create a list of every idea for every killer in the game so I'll just list a few possible ideas:
The Wraith's Power cosmetic could relate to the Bell that he tolls as well as his effects cloaking/uncloaking. The Bell could be held on a chain and a lot less resonant, sounding almost withered, and the cloaking/uncloaking effects could look as if The Wraith's very particles are reassembling or dissolving sporadically.
The Spirit's Power cosmetic could revolve around the visuals of the phasing and the auditory effects. The passive phasing she does could look a lot more like twitching forms reaching out of The Spirit rather than glitchy apparitions of herself randomly around her. As well, her phasing audio could sound a lot less like an airy rushing sound and moreso a collection of whispers and rising gasps, similar to Dredge's Nightfall audio but quieter and normalized to allow Survivors to still hear her as easily.
The Plague's Power cosmetic could be her Fountains and Purge visuals. Instead of relating to the idea of being physically sick and throwing up, it could relate to the idea of infestations. Plague's Purges could contain small insects and when a Survivor becomes sick they may have intermittent bugs crawl over their skin or flies around them that dissipate when using a Fountain.
Other more brief examples include: Ghostface's Power being the visual of the mark as well as the highlights of marked targets, the sounds of revealing his Night Shroud. Myers' Power could be the visuals of his Stalk and the sound effects that play when increasing a tier. Blight's Power could be the vials he injects himself with and the visual effects of his Rushes and Slams. I could go on for quite a while but you get the idea and hopefully it could get you to start thinking of your own, too :).
The possibilities would be pretty endless and I hope this is something they do eventually, if not for P100 then just in general. Let us customize Victor! I want to give him a little hat or something >:(
