Do you think Chests should be a bigger part of the game, or are they good as they are?
If so, what changes do you think should be made to make Chests a more impactful part of the game?

They should, at minimum, take less time to open.
Luck should be reworked to affect chest item spawns as well.

Add more chests by default. Right now there isn't even enough to go around for each Survivor. And remove broken keys from the item pool.

On the one hand, I could see how it would be good game design to force a time cost, if the player gets a benefit from it, like an item. But the time it takes to go to a chest and open it, and then continue with your game, seems like the biggest complaint I hear about them.
Looking at the numbers for a solo player, a gen takes 90 seconds to repair, and a chest takes 10 seconds to open - so 11% of a gen (not counting travel time). So whatever benefit you get from a chest should be worth more than 11% of a gen, to make it worthwhile.
I'm just not sure if that would be done best by changing the underlying design (e.g. make chests take less time to open, have better items in chests, etc.), or if it's done best by adding a perk, for players who want to make chests a bigger part of the game (e.g. something like opening a chest gives you a token worth 11% of a gen, or more).
But I hear ya, right now it seems like they take too much time, for what you get from them.

There's already more than 1 chest per survivor, though. I think it might get too OP if all survivors could bring in an item, plus find 2 more each in the trial.

There could be more chests on the map but in exchange there is a chance for empty and jump scare chests.

Chests should be a bigger part of the game and maybe even a second objective. The item you take with you at the start of the game shouldn't be placed in your hand but in your personal chest at the opposite end of the your starting point and is highlighted to you (but not to the killer). This chest takes longer to open then a "normal" chest and gives a sound effect to the killer when opened and can only be opened by you. Opening the personal chest should reward the survivor with additional survival BPs. The rest of the "normal" chests should stay the same way as they are.
This gives the survivor something else to do as just hopping into the game and immediately start to repair the gen next to you with your best tool box. Also you have some tactical decicision if you want to pressure the killer by the start of the game and grab your item later (maybe when he is in chase with another survivor) or to go for the item first, spend some time, but use it effects as soon as possible.
This gives a killer who is unable to find any survivors also a glimps of hope to get into his first chase.
Survivor Matches right now are so bland and boring and always the same that I'm really happy if they could change the gameplay a bit to do something else. Maybe its okay if you play in a SWF and talk with your friends (or streamers) but as a solo player, who does nothing else then sitting on these gens and doing these boring skill checks over and over and over and over and over again, survivor becomes so uninteresting that I refuse to play as them even if I get 100% BP bonus.

I think in general, rummaging should be allowed infinite times (and a basekit option), but it doubles the time to do each time like Freddy ally wakeups. Appraisal's Token limit can be shifted to rummages that increase your held item's rarity tier. Rummaging basekit with an item held can instead 'reload' your item like Built to Last, but takes .25s-1s per charge from the first rummage.
Another possibility is 'kicking' a chest to reroll the item. Once you reach halfway on the chest, the item you will get is revealed. You can press a button (like planting a blastmine/wiretap) to kick the chest when it is above 50% to subtract 50% progress, and reroll the item. Ace in the Hole or a different item perk can remove or reduce this penalty, so it maybe removes 10% progress on the reroll instead.
Base chests currently take too long for not enough value. Opening a chest to find a Yellow Toolbox costs ~10s and give you back ~6.66s. Finding a Yellow Medkit and self-healing also takes the same time and saves you ~8s from getting healed by an ally. Arguably Chests would be fair at 5s, especially since you still have to walk out of your way to use them, and if you stacked Chest perks you sacrificed perks that could have actually been useful instead.I think Broken Keys would be fine if they basekitted 24m Survivor Aura read on Keys. Any existing Surv aura read can just increase the range by number it currently provides instead.
By default only 3 chests spawn (.75/Surv). Survivor Offerings can increase this number, as well as Hoarder Killer perk.

I'd like to see things around chests buffed, but I think chests themselves are mostly fine. They could do with being a little faster to open maybe.
Ace in the Hole, Appraisal, Pharmacy and Plunderer's all need pretty big buffs.
