💙Warning: Very long post about Trickster. This is basically my thesis, dissertation and a whole ted talk. I saw somewhere on this forum, from the team directly, that they are diligently working on Trickster and I love that. We are all patiently waiting for any news regarding Trickster. Thank you for not forgetting about him. I appreciate it. Thank you all for reading this. Feel free to let me know what you think about playing Trickster now.
In this post I wrote about Trickster's current playstyle, Trickster's old playstyles and I also cover some addon and quality of life changes that can greatly improve the experience for old trickster enjoyers while not taking anything away from people who currently enjoy trickster.
tldr;🤔 i know he isn't weak or a bad killer. i just deeply miss old trickster.
a lot of trickster's playstyles were essentially deleted after the rework. there is 1 efficient way to play him now which is to spam main event. i dont think this is weak i just want more ways to play as him. improve trickster by giving players options in the form of addons:
*I am more than ok with letting go of my movement buff in exchange for faster firing rate and slow decay on knives. Take away my movement speed. Take it away if you must.
* exchange movement speed for faster firing rate.
* bring back old fizz spin soda in exchange for decreased main event recharge rate (so that i can finally use shatter blades again).
* things like this would open the floor for more trickster variety and let current trickster enjoyers keep their rework.
* again, i want to use my old playstyles like shatter blades, firing faster or slower laceration decay in exchange for not having the movement buff so that i can use shatter blades once more. please.
* old trickster enjoyers can play how they used to and current trickster enjoyers can keep the reworked movement buff.
- i am perfectly okay with admitting if im objectively wrong in anything i have said here. do let me know if i misrepresented anything here. i just wanted to get my thoughts out to the developer team about trickster. it's fine if you disagree with me.
I dont want to force my playstyle on others by asking for a full rework revert but I would appreciate the option to play the way I want to with my favorite character.

First things first. Trickster is the best boy. Enough said.
Ok seriously where to begin?? I love and respect this character a ton and the team who created him. Such a great idea, design and concept brought to life, brought to this game. Thank you all on the developer team.
He is my favorite Dead by Daylight character. We all know his identity is one of a rapid shooter, flashy knife tricks and again, the fastest fire rate out of all the ranged killers. That and the fact that he used to both be able to excel at chase but also use different playstyles as well. And that is what I fell in love with when I started playing him. I got such a rush from using all my knives. Trying out different playstyles. No main event needed.
Well, here's the biggest problem I currently have.
He only has 1 viable playstyle anymore. By that I don't mean there's only 1 way to play him. You go ahead and play him however you want. I'm slightly exaggerating but also I am not exagerating in the slightest. His best addons extend his main event. Which is so hard for any survivor to deal with in the right circumstance. Out in the open, grouped up or at the hook party. That isn't the problem (for me at least). Also, trick blades is his most fun addon. So he does have more than 1 playstyle. It's just the playstyles we lost feel so great compared to the few playstyles we have now.
My problem is that any other playstyle I want to use, probably wont be as effective as relying on my main event. For the vast majority of Trickster players, definitely not all, there is only 1 way to play Trickster now: Abuse main event. Now I know not all matches are played exactly like this and not all Tricksters abuse main event BUT it is just such a big part of him now. It's hard to ignore.
Because his normal firing rate is too slow, players now rely on main event because of the fast firing rate, the slug potential, and it comes back every chase. That's fine! Anyone can play like this. I am not trying to shame anyone's playstyle. I just miss firing rapidly without having to spam main event or run the same addons every match. I don't mean spamming my knives all the time. I like taking my time with my knives. But he just doesn't feel the same to play as before. I miss old Trickster.
Again, thank you to the DBD team for listening to feedback and trying to bring Trickster up to current standards. Thank you. I feel like Trickster can be even better than he is now with some changes to addons that will add variety back into his kit just like before.
This perma spam main event playstyle can get very boring very fast for both Trickster AND the survivors. Which again is fine! Surely it's better than facing him before the rework though right? I am taking a wild guess here. I may be wrong. But I think survivors probably hate Trickster even more now because of the things main event can do with addon extension. If a survivor hates Trickster now, it's because of the things main event is be able to do thanks to the extension addons. I am saying this because that's all he has now. It's main event or the bat. I am trying to put it lightly here but my point here is that you either try to get your main event ready for a down, pray that the survivor doesnt loop good enough, they go into the very open so you can use knives OR just use the bat. Any of those is faster than actually committing to chases with normal knives thanks to fast decay and strong loops. Not a problem. That's fine. It's balance. It's ok.
I know it's not what all Tricksters do but it's pretty much the common sense solution for a lot of the problems Trickster has right now. The problems being that you fire slow and your knives decay fast. The solution is stack main event. Find grouped survivors or camp and PROFIT!! Big profit!! HUGE PROFIT!! I am oversimplifying but it's about what it feels like play Trickster. It's either go main event or go home.
In my opinion, it is a band aid fix for the laceration decay and firing rate we lost. Let me know what you think. I understand and respect the team's decision to do this. But if you simply run the main event extension addons, you WILL win a lot. Which again! It's fine. You play how you want to play. I just feel like this character's identity is muddled because of this.
It doesnt feel as satisfying to use knives unless it's main event. You are essentially punished a lot of times for using knives due to the slow firing rate. Specially when you cant get that 1 last knife on a survivor before they go around a corner and the 10 seconds of laceration is up. "You're done now." It feels like a slap to the face. I'm being punished for using my knives in a lot of my matches. I have felt this way ever since the rework dropped and I played it. I want to use my knives because that's how I would always play Trickster. I basically pretended main event didnt exist unless I really needed it before the rework. I want to be able to use my own playstyle and it be viable.

It is nice to have Trickster's rework don't get me wrong. I love that they gave my man attention. All due respect to the team for trying something like this. Hats off to the team!!
I am constantly missing Trickster's old identity. I miss all the different playstyles one could use before the rework. All those playstyles are simply not viable, efficient or even possible anymore.
However, it is heavily implied that there's only 1 "meta" playstyle right now for Trickster. And this 1 efficient consistent playstyle has already hindered the other different ways you can play as Trickster. I have examples.
Trickster playstyles you can no longer do efficiently or at all since the rework:
- Never reload - you used to be able to manage your knives and main event perfectly so you never had to stop at a locker to reload. It took practice and patience to master this. Yet most Tricksters did not use this but it was a nice option to have. It was also always a pleasant surprise whenever you didnt have to reload.
My suggestion: In exchange for decreasing main event recharge, we could have this as an addon in some way. - Shatter blades and Fizz Spin Soda - Playing around the old laceration meter and capitalizing on survivors hiding around corners used to be so freaking fun! I would recommend any of the devs to try out shatter blades and old fizz spin soda, if they can, in the dev build. So satisfying.
My suggestion: Please let us have old fizz spin soda back and balance it by decreasing main event recharge if we have these 2 addons equipped. With this playstyle, I dont need a main event, honey! I AM the main event!! - 15 second laceration - You used to be able to chase survivors using your knives without having to worry about the laceration decay. Now that Trickster moves faster, he was balanced around the laceration decaying much faster. This heavily hinders knife skill expression in my opinion. Now it is much more efficient to use your M1 only if you dont have main event built up or have the iri addon for even more movement speed. Now you are discouraged from throwing any knives if survivors are hugging corners around tight loops because the laceration might be gone in just a few seconds. You cant rely on knives to injure all the time. It's just so sad to feel discouraged to use my knives. I want to use my knives. I dont want to use my bat.
Suggestion: Add quality of life changes so laceration decay doesn't feel so bad. Take back our movement speed. We do not need it. If anything we need some way to control the map or gens instead of movement speed. - The most important feature we lost is that fast fire rate. Without memento blades, the firing rate is soooo slow. You used to be able to punish survivors who vault incorrectly. Now survivors can get away with a lot more stuff that they shouldnt and wouldnt get away with if they were facing Huntress or even Slinger. All that while Tricksters feel like we HAVE to rely on main event OR the bat. I personally dont want to rely on main event or the bat. I rather use my knives even if it costs me games most of the time. I just want to play this character the way I want to and enjoy it.

I miss getting value from Edge of Revival Album; the addon that makes the knives shatter in the environment around a survivor. If you didnt know, ever since the rework you can't run this addon with Fizz Spin Soda any more. Before the rework Fizz Spin Soda decreased the laceration requirement to injure. The old effect of Fizz Spin Soda used to pair so well with shatter blades. It's like they were created for one another, right?
I am sure there is more that we lost in the rework. But 4 playstyles gone. Just like that. Could you use shatter blades today right now? Yes. Will you get any kills or value from this? HARDLY. And I learned that the long hard way. You cant even try to do the "no reload". You can't rely on slow laceration decay to use your knives 100% of chase time. You can't even fire your knives nowhere near as fast as before even while running the 1 GREY ADDON memento blades addon.
There's no way to get consistent value out of the shatter blades playstyle anymore. I could elaborate but tldr is just not consistent or efficient to use anymore. You lose more knives than you get value/injuries from using it BECAUSE old Fizz Spin Soda was so important to this addon. Crucial even.
There's no information about the reworked Fizz Spin Soda Combo System anywhere on this forum, website or even the wiki. However, I did learn from more experienced and dedicated Trickster players than me, that now Fizz Spin Soda helps you maintain or extend main event from what I understand. Which is ok!! It's definitely ok to compensate for our broken main event with slower firing rate. But some people prefer to shoot their normal knives instead of spamming main event. I would love for that to be a viable option once more.

Easy ways to improve Trickster's Quality of Life TLDR
- Being able to ramp up the speed of the knives is now a much needed quality of life change. He just doesn't feel the same. I miss old Trickster.
- Although he is technically stronger now than before, it feels like something is severely missing from his kit. It doesnt matter how fast I move if I constantly feel like my firing rate is too slow along with the inferior version of laceration decay we have now. All because I am not using the "right" addons.
- Let more of his playstyles be viable. Let us have no reload, old fizz spin soda and fast firing rate and we will take our old movement speed. GLADLY!! WE TAKE THOSE.
- I would love to have his old firing rate while not being forced to use main event or use the memento blades addon. This would return Trickster to his old identity even if it means we lose the movement buff we got.
- Also, because survivors have already learned how to counter 100% of Trickster's updated kit, he is now essentially nerfed if not using main event addons or memento blades. You will never get value from normal knives against smart survivors. Literally never. I could be wrong but I say this because old laceration is gone. Because our firing rate is slow.
- If none of that is an option can we please have newly reworked addons that let us interchange movement speed for firing speed? Or exchange the rapid main event charging speed for knife laceration decay extension instead? Can the players choose which we get to use? This is all we are asking for. Please.

I would love to know if there is a way to go back to old Trickster and let players choose match to match- which playstyle they can use based on addons?
Is there a way to make multiple playstyles available once more? Maybe by reworking some addons so we can have old firing rate, shatter blades, or no reload in exchange for keeping our old movement speed?

Ok but seriously I respect the entire Dead by Daylight developer team and also these creators. Both show love to my favorite character. I just want to be able to play him how I used to. My trickster used to be all cash money and swag.

well they won't revert him, they could buff his regular throwing rate again. memento blade is only grey add-on. you can use it every game. that what I use every game.
