New content getting overwhelming

I've been playing DbD since 2018 and have about 1,900 hours, so I play this game a decent amount but not a ton. I have a pretty busy life with work and kids, so really not much time to devote to video games. I love DbD, but have found it increasingly frustrating and overwhelming to play with the rate at which new content is added, especially with the increasing complexity of killer power and perks.

This new chapter has almost sent me over the edge and made me question whether it's worth even trying anymore. I've barely learned how to play against Chucky and the Unknown, and now we have another new killer with a whole new set of mechanics to learn how to play against that seems (at least to me) way more complicated that anything else I've had to learn.

I…just don't have the time (or the energy) to do it. I have no idea how new players manage to stick with the game unless they completely devote their lives to it. I know BHVR has to keep generating new content for the game to keep revenue coming in, but I think it's also driving away new players and even long-time casual players like me. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah, it's becoming oversaturated with content. It's way too much.

No, I do understand what you mean. While it's always exciting for us to get new content, I do sometimes feel like BHVR doesn't quite have the resources it needs to be pushing out so much new content on such a tight release schedule.

I think 3 chapters a year would be the ideal, personally. Then the devs might have a bit more time to focus on quality of life stuff, fixing bugs, tweaking game play, buffing underused perks, developing new game modes etc. I'm glad they don't follow the crunch time culture of the bigger studios but even so, the workload for developing 4 chapters a year plus everything else must be a pretty big undertaking.

I don't think anything will change, though. The reality is that new content releases are what keeps the lights on and everybody at BHVR in a job.

I feel like they should lay off with the new chapters and focus on health and QOL updates.

I’d love them to spend a while on fixing bugs, nerfing or buffing perks that need them, and improving/balancing some killers.

We have enough killers/survivors at the moment.

I sort of feel the same way. For me, memorizing new killers is one thing. Even after so many years, while I don't always play DBD that much, I can usually keep up with PTBs and figure out how a new killer works once every three months. But I really can't keep up with all these reworks that completely change what the Survivor is supposed to do against a killer a la Sadako's condemned or Trickster's knife spread. Especially when they do an overhaul and then decide that wasn't good enough either, so even if you did adapt to the new change, you have to relearn it all over again, like with… Sadako and Trickster again, lol. It's really disengaging to have thousands of hours in a game and die because you simply don't know how something works anymore.

That said, the new patch adding the ability to see the description of what items do mid-match is a good step in the right direction. For example, you no longer have to see someone use an EMP before you know what it does.

Well it Is not easy for sure for people who play Once a longer while And just for short time / new players.

However I think the Real problem Is that older content allready has some issues or needs some rework And changes including many killers. But every 3 months we have new And Its just overwhelming to keep up to make offten new stuff but also keep coming back to old stuff thats just increasing in size And balance it. It Tales Ages simply.

For me it's not so much the new content as the fact that they keep changing what the old content does. I no longer remember what most of the perks do or the technicalities of how they work because they've changed multiple times and I stopped following along. I also think there's poor communication when new mechanics are introduced, which makes them feel frustrating.

Whenever there's a new event or a new power or whatnot, I find myself really wishing that the in-game description would connect the dots for me. Like for these Vecna items — don't say, "Healthy survivors can do these 86 specific, detailed things." Say, "You can't use it if you're injured."

They should definitely consider slowing the release schedule a bit in terms of chapters, focusing on QoL and Perk Variety while filling the content gap with Modifiers and events and whatnot until the next big release.

It would presumably be a risky move monetarily, but I'd argue they could squeeze more longevity out of the game this way.

Ive played the game constantly since nemisis chapter. I find i actualy run out of content rather quickly and just end up counting the days till the next ptb/chapter as ive 100%ed the achievements, 100%ed the challenge tomes, and even got a p100 on both sides (rebecca/alien) ive gotten all characters to atleast prestige 3 for all perks, and i finnish new challenge pages within a day and have to wait 2 weeks for a new one lol. If the game ever stopped coming out with new chapters at the rate that it does, it might even feel too slow for me and id play other games while waiting. I get that not everyone has time for it as i play with a friend that only gets to play like 2 days a week lol. It would be nice if they made some of the "new chapters" just updates/upgrades to some of their older iconic licences that are all missing something weather it be the actual actors or a missing survivor etc. Currently they come out with a new chapter then once its sold they don't touch it ever again unless theres an exploit or balance problem
