so on the topic of revealing ghostface

ik its basically a meme that ghostface is just nearly impossible to reveal when youre the one in a chase against him, but personally i think its really silly that your character model can stand as an obstacle to your character seeing ghostface. i mean really now this is just unreasonable

also objects that block his model from the waist down really shouldnt obstruct that view, i can appreciate the fact that you dont want to make him unplayable, but i feel like his mechanics being wholly dysfunctional and him being able to kill as much as he wants is worse than his mechanics working and him not being a super stellar killer

i looked it up on the dbd wiki, which may or may not be super accurate, but it seems like the mechanic that is described for revealing ghostface is either innacurate or dysfunctional, as in practice it really doesnt seem to work as well as it seems it should

ive come up with a few ideas, one being that it would be cool if there were seperate vision markers for revealing the ghost face, one for his torso, for his legs, and for the mask itself, each one granting like +50% speed to reveal the ghost face (starting at 0%) when visible [with the character model change in effect] so that if hes just chasing a survivor through, say, the house on Withered Isle, where there are a lot of visual obstacles, it would be nice if the focus during the chase wasnt on keeping his character model in ideal placement of the camera, which is stupid for a few reasons{1} and more on eroding the chase, and avoiding being marked with a few well placed glances.

Something else i thought up while writing this is that i assume that while the ghostface is being revealed, its impossible for him to mark anyone{2} where instead i think it would be cool if he could stalk people while being revealed, and it was just a situation of whichever bar is filled first gains the advantage(with tweaking), and instead is replaced with the mechanic of if he is visible to survivors, he cant begin stalking and must first go to a location where he isnt being watched before he can go all sneaky mode (which i dont think would be too hard)

obviously this is a ton of new coding and an assload of work, and so regardless of how good or bad an idea this is it would take time and effort to implement, which i wouldnt hold against any development process. It just is generally unanimous between me and people that i play alongside that ghostface is annoying to play against not necessarily because his power is hard to counter, but due to the mechanics for his reveal is so shaky and inconsistent and hard to understand and use. So i hope thats something that can change relatively soon

{1} one being that the idea that the horror experience feeling is lost if you have to focus on the way that you position the camera, it kinda puts a meta-gamey feel on an intense moment which is gross and unique to ghost face, as well as very difficult to do (even more so on a controller i imagine) so much so that it stands in the way of getting away from the killer or finding loops

{2}barring the potential for a strat where you just never actually fully reveal him and wave your camera around to keep him in that state (which would be stupid and again, metagamey and weird)

I nearly made this same post.

I am a Ghostface Main. I've played him for nearly two years now. I've played him at high, mid, and low MMR. I know this problem all too well. It feels bad playing as him with it. It feels bad playing against him with it. It is clunky and janky and for some godawful reason, works through walls. I'm certain it's got to do with either his ping, your ping, or something else. The character's head blocks a reveal, but a tiny low wall you barely peek over and by definition your character shouldn't be able to see over or through doesn't? Why? For what reason does that make sense?

In my opinion his Reveal needs to work the way Unknown's staredown Mechanic does - you have to keep your eyes on him in chase, and it can't just be randomly taken away through a wall in 1.5 seconds. Why does he even get revealed so quickly to begin with? He's C tier, he doesn't deserve all this extra counterplay when stealth is basically his only tool.

Increase his Reveal to take 3 seconds basekit, rework those two addons that make it 3 seconds into doing something else (they only promote camping which is bad for the game), and make the Reveal work like Unknown. Keep that Survs can't remove a Mark this way, because Marked Survs can't reveal him anyway and he just isn't strong enough to warrant that sort of extreme counterplay.

Oh yeah, and since this is the counterplay, make his Shroud less punishing to lose. Too often someone just follows him around all game so he can't even use his power, what other Killer even HAS that issue? Remove revealing him by doing this or at least make it punishing for someone to do it for too long by giving them a minor Exposed a la Starstruck, he can see them right there and they're foolishly out of position, after all. Then make Walleye's Matchbook either basekit or partial basekit; 18 seconds is viable and if you make Matchbook basekit, it can do something else even more useful. It feels really, really bad to have to use a Shroud addon to make Ghostface feel good in chase, and yes I GET that the point isn't to chase so much as ambush, but you cannot avoid chasing every round forever and doing so means the other fun part of him - mindgaming - is lost.

Tweak this. Adjust a couple addons and rework the problem ones, maybe give him something for hs chase… and he will feel and be amazing, maybe even a mid to high B-tier.

Make my Florida Stalker Dannyboi amazing again. Make him at least as strong as Wraith can be played well. He needs to be next in line for buffs alongside Singularity and Doctor, both of which also have very low Killrates. Ghostface doesn't need to be overpowered, but as one of the most popular Licensed Killers, he also really doesn't deserve this.
