Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Alien Chapter

Patiently waiting for the Alien chapter to come into the game since I started playing in 2019 felt like I was waiting for a miracle. When the chapter was announced I was stoked and so excited to play as Ellen Ripley as I was a fan of the alien franchise since a young age, when I started watching it with my father, one of our few bonding experiences we ever shared together.
To say I wanted to hear the voice and see Sigourney Weaver in one of my favorite video games after her debut in other games, such as Fortnite or even alien isolation was more than ever, and even that is an understatement. The only game that had gotten her right was Alien Isolation, obviously, with her likeness being beautifully executed! So, when I started to watch the trailer that dbd dropped, my heart just fell to the ground. I couldn’t believe that my favorite character from a sci-fi film wouldn’t be shown as Sigourney, but this other random person.
I don’t care if people try to play it off as ‘this is the same character just from a different universe’ it still breaks my heart that Sigourney wouldn’t be in the game. I was hopeful that dbd would create the best chapter that they ever made, since this was a huge license after all, but they failed me and so many others.
Not just Sigourney Weavers likeness was gone but also the heart of Alien. The franchise in dbd without Sigourney and the perfect execution of the xenomorph’s power alongside the map made this chapter feel soulless. It might as well have been an original chapter because the xenomorph’s power was just a redesign of the nemesis power and along side this new survivor, just with Ripley’s outfit. However, I will have the say I’m a huge fan of the Easter eggs hidden away in the nostromo on the map, I will give them that!
Anyways, it’s just heartbreaking that Sigourney Weaver, the real Ellen Ripley, couldn’t join us in dbd. Every time I see her or I play with her, it stings a little bit. Every time I watch the alien movies again, I always get reminded about what we could’ve had in dbd and I am never more dissatisfied and disappointed in their execution of this lovable movie and its characters.
I try to apply the dbd Ellen Ripley to the movies, but I just can’t! It’s not the Ellen I grew up with and it’s not the Ellen that I’m going to make the acceptation of! Again, it’s more than just playing this character! This character is the most firm, powerful, and headstrong woman to set the screens back in the day. She was the stepping stone to deliver feminism in movies we see today as she is still one of the most recognizable final girls in media ever! So, it’s not just playing a character, it’s playing someone who changed a lot of us for the better, someone who gave us courage and confidence and strength, and someone who we can apply ourselves to in the real world. I hope you guys understand.
Also, the xenomorph’s power is pretty lackluster with it being, essentially, nemesis’s whip. The Xenomorph in the movies were shown as being stealthy and intelligent, the ultimate life form. The movies have the eggs with the face huggers, the xenomorphs climbing all over the place/the insane speed, and the chest busters! Dbd could have even implemented the facehuggers to act like the onryo’s tapes or the nemesis’s zombies! With all of that source material dbd decides to go the easy and boring route. Don’t get me wrong, I love the implementation of the fire bringing xeno out of their power but in some ways, it can just end up being obnoxious. Playing with the loud screeches when xeno gets burnt is an overstimulation bound to happen! But, I also enjoy the tunnels! I think that was pretty special and cool to explore/experience.
I know dbd is capable of creating something unique and amazing especially with the recent chapter of dnd! It just that, that’s what I wanted for alien. Imagine if the xenomorph could toggle between abilities like the new killer! It would be a struggle to balance all of that but it would create so much love from alien fans.
The new map also suffers quite a bit, but this is the least problematic to me. I won’t lie, the map is pretty boring with it just looking quite bland. The environment that the nostromo crash landed on looks like the environment from the first movie where they explore the Alien spacecraft with the eggs, but this environment just dosent have that umph the movie or the alien isolation game had. They could have implemented the alien spacecraft like the nostromo but it’s just lurking on the outskirts of the map and my adventurous curiosity is stagnant due to this. Also, Ellen’s escape spaceship was just there. It feels like it serves no purpose in looping, but I love the throwback, I just wish they did more with it. I do LOVE the details and Easter eggs in the nostromo itself though! Jonesy in the locker, the face hugger at the window, the pipes! It’s all fantastic! But, the rest of the map just limits what could have been a beautifully designed map! I hope this can actually change at some point in time, but that just depends on dbd devs. I really do love your guys’s work and art and I know you can do better than this! Please have a redemption with the Alien chapter! I feel it needs it the most. Thank you!

I second this; I feel like Ellen Ripley is Sigourney Weaver because she played her so well. If Ellen Ripley is not Sigourney Weaver, then it is not Ellen Ripley. Not to mention, Ellen Ripley in the game is short, like the rest of the female survivors. I would have loved it if they changed her model to be an exception, like Aestri, since Sigourney is pretty tall for a woman—she is even taller than the male actors in the movies. Also the more I look at it, the more I think that in-game Ellen looks like Winona Ryder's character from Alien: Resurrection.

The turrets, in my opinion, could have been handheld, and we could spray fire just like shining a flashlight onto the Xenomorph. Make it so that it's lighter than the turret but still makes the survivor relatively slow, so the Xenomorph could still hit us if we're not careful. The flamethrower would be pretty effective against pallets while Xeno is breaking them, so we could spray it or try to spray it.

The beeping of the turret is unnecessarily loud and not like in the movies, where the scanner shows a dot but doesn’t beep as much or as loudly as the Xeno gets closer. Xeno could have just been a stealth killer, which is exactly how it is in the movies. Xeno was in places that no one would have expected, and the characters were always caught off guard. Stealth in its crawl form but gone when standing up, just like the Pig. If it's too hard to balance, just make it so it loses crawl mode after some time, since it's supposed to be a sort of "fill the bar and deplete" type of power.

One last word: I saw the Ripley skin from the new Cats and Dogs collection, which would have been a lot better if it was Sigourney. Here it is if you are curious, looks amazing!

This is why the xenomorph needs the facehugger & acid blood abilities as a basepower instead of an addon and changes to the turrets and map, bc, even if its close TOO the xenomorph, it doesn't feel accurate enough, I feel like a facehugger mechanic would work like the pig and upon a chest burster, it takes 1 min for the burster to turn into a ai controlled sub xenomorph (like nemesis zombies) that roams the trails with acidic blood as a base ability to when getting palleted or flamed it woulf activate and have a cooldown before reactivation for another spray of acid
