2v8 honest thoughts (Long)
So I've been playing a LOT of 2v8 lately and this gamemode has really brought me into the game again! Before this I played maybe one match of DBD a week as I had pretty much lost interest in the game, but 2v8 really revived the love I have for DBD at least temporarily. With that being said I have a lot of things to say about this mode since I've been playing and seeing everything. I'll be saying everything I both love and dislike about the mode itself, killer role, survivor role, and what I think could be done to potentially fix these issues starting with survivor as this role seems to have the most complaints.
Everything wrong with survivor
1. Class diversity - At this moment survivors have 4 classes to pick from, healer, scout, guide, and escapist. I get the idea was to have 2 per team however I cant help but feel only having 4 classes was a mistake at launch. Even just one more class would've really helped create some diversity and add just that much more replayability to the survivor side which I've heard is a common complaint. Some classes could've been things like a Trap based class that can blast mine gens, chem trap pallets, and wire tap totems maybe for uniqueness? Having more 'support' orientated classes would probably help as at the moment it feels like you can't be a huge asset to your teams survivability and more of just trying to increase your own.
2. Repetitive - Again, only having 4 classes gets pretty repetitive sometimes. Especially when you already know how youre gonna play in each class some games can kinda be samey. Something small to switch this up could be like making the fourth perk (the self care one all classes have) a changable perk and introduce a few abilities to select from beyond just that perk. That way you can have some more diversity between matches and make a build more catered to individual playstyles like a medic who can take a chase or a scout who can hide the aura of themselves and others.
3. Double Teamed - Personally I dont find this to be a HUGE issue myself. I know if im being double teamed they're giving up valuable patrol time and are losing insane progress on gens but if I wanted to come up with a solution to help this I'd say make the injured hit speed boost quicker but shorter. That way survivors still gain the same distance but they can better avoid an immediate follow up hit
Everything right with survivor
1. Feels different from base game - I might be alone in this but I feel survivor playstyle does differ greatly from main game and 2v8. No game of 2v8 I've played feels like base game survivor and I feel much more 'in my role' compared to main game where every survivor is essentially a jack of all trades with the perk system
2. Feel more impactful - oddly enough, even with 7 more survivors I still feel like I'm more impactful and helpful playing 2v8 survivor than main game. When I play medic and go around insta healing all injured survivors the second they're out of chase I feel like I'm making a large difference in the match and how it plays out as well as keeping busy on a side task which brings me to my next point
3. Something to do other than gens - This relates to the point above in the fact I can do things other than gens and feel like I'm actually helping the team whether that be in the background like with a scout or directly with medic, I feel like I can make more of a difference and help my team in different ways unlike in main game. (This does go both ways where you can feel like you're making little to no difference as well depending on your team and if they utilize the utility you bring from you role)
Everything wrong with killer
1. Needs a larger roster - This one is just the obvious one so I felt I should get it out of the way off the bat but we need more killers. This would help both survivor and killer games from feeling repetitive or too similar from one another. Theres a large roster of killers and MANY of those killers would need little to no changes to be put into 2v8 such as Clown, Hag, Spirit, Artist, Unkown, Twins, and Blight. And if we're talking license killers as well, Demogorgon, Chucky, Ghostface, and Pyramid Head wouldn't be hard at all either to implement.
2. Repetitive - Again same with survivor, sometimes it can be repetitive with the only 5 killers and no builds. Again to aide this, I'd suggest making the fourth perk slot an interchangeable ability so you can swap it out to compliment how you'd like to play without disrupting the feeling that each killer/role has a purpose as well as increasing the selectable killer roster.
3. Much more reliant on your teammate - In main game you're entirely to your own devices but in 2v8 its a whooole other story and with only 2 of you, if one doesn't perform well enough then you're only running at 50% efficiency max and can't really carry a victory yourself. This means you and your partner need to be able to at least match each others skill to some level in order to have any success and carrying is almost entirely non existent unless its a god tier nurse who never misses a blink but even then the survivors can overwhelm her.
Everything right with killer
1. Finally a new way to play with friends - This one might not seem huge but having a way to play killer with friends is just such a nice feeling especially for those who do prefer the killer side. While I play both sometimes it definitely gets boring only playing survivor with my friend for hours on end so being able to switch over and play killer together is just chefs kiss. Couple that with all the cool ass team plays you can do it just makes this mode THAT much more fun.
2. Fast paced - This goes for both sides but especially killer I love how you're always busy. Theres rarely downtime to just look around and be lost because theres always a survivor around and you're always in chase. This mode stays very fun throughout the whole game I feel and keeps you always invested.
3. Feels different from main game and you feel stronger - Easily my favorite part, the fact you feel so much better as killer is just UGH I love the little QOL changes on their powers so much it makes each killer feel so much more fluid and like you're never actually leaving the match.
Conclusion
This mode is really great I mean seriously hats off to the devs for their version of 2v8. Its my favorite way to play DBD now on both ends which I know some people will disagree with and thats their right but for me I've really not had this much fun and enjoyment in dbd in months so I'm glad something was added to really incetivize me to pick the game back up and play again but is does need more oomf to it on both ends. Additional classes for survivor and additional killers would help go a long way!
