Hear me out: Light's Out with Survivor Classes
The general consensus I tend to see behind why Lights Out wasn't very popular in the community (unlike 2v8 and Chaos Shuffle) is that it didn't tend to offer much replay value or customization to returning players, which I agree with wholeheartedly. In a game like DBD that expects so much time from its players, it needs to provide a varied experience to keep things interesting, and although I really like Lights Out conceptually, it simply didn't have enough content in it to stay engaging past a couple days (which is fair, the release was a proof of concept of sorts for modes)
So...why not eventually reintroduce the modifer with some of 2v8's innovations like Killer abilities and Survivor classes? With the different rules of the mode and mix between Classic DBD and 2v8's structure, it could create a unique playing experience without necessarily requiring an abundance of resources from the team. They could maybe in even change the base rules of the mode more to something more like a 1v5 if they want to give it more of its own style.
Thoughts? I think a lot of people liked the idea of a more atmospheric take on the trials, just not the execution of it.

It will still be a boring mode to play, it just wasn't exciting at all and having classes wouldn't change that. I also generally like to be able to see what's going on with relatively clear vision, hence why I don't really like The Dredge much either, but alas Nightfall is at least more tolerable than Lights Out.

I feel like the classes WOULD improve it. The various classes help solve different aspects. Finding gens would be easier with the gen related class finding and sharing info with teams.
The runner class would help prevent freebee hits for you+teammates that limited vision and 0 TR scored killers. Things would obviously need to be tweaked for the killer side too but... it's an interesting idea.

no thanks light outs made killer tactics even more enticing than the regular mode. The lack of tracking capabilities just made killers stay near hooks with no terror radius. On top that u couldn't beat a killer who was hell bent on three genning. Most of the counterplay to 3 genning is to shift w to the opposite side of the map once hit but in light outs it was impossible to get everyone on the same page. Also hiding survivors are the most boring thing in the whole entire game to face and the mode made it very easy to do so.

Rework Lights Out to be even darker but in return there's less gens to do/gens take less time and all Survivors spawn with a new item, the Flash Beacon, which has a 20(? probably longer I'm just making it up here) second cooldown. It provides a blinding flash of light, illuminating the surrounding area but also blinding any player, killer or Survivor, caught looking at it at the wrong time (must be the front of the Beacon, obviously). That would be a lot more fun imho than just Lights Out: Classes Edition.

lights out had a big balance problem, especially with certain killers like huntress, who had no footsteps in addition to no lullaby making her have basically no interactivity whatsoever and killing everyone uncontested.
honestly, i think the whole mode needs a complete re-imagining. make it something like, the killer is super slow when the lights are on, and then when a gen is completed, the lights go out and the killer gets super fast and insta downs for a period of time. i dont know, im just spitballing. but lights out definitely doesn't need to come back as it was, it needs a big rethink.

I created an idea for a rework to Lights Out over in the Suggestions area. I DO NOT wanna see classes in Lights Out, it's too basic a mode for that. it needs more to it but Classes aren't it.

Not a fan, the mode in general was extremely boring as survivor and frankly even the idea of classes isn’t something I would want in a mode like that.

What's the point of lights out when you have perks anyway

The reason why it was unpopular is because it directly buffed proxy camping and tunnelling.

Lights out was pretty terrible in general. Was only really decent as killer, trying to play as survivor felt really bad, i don't think the classes from 2v8 would really help that. you'd still get downed and camped more than likely.

Light's out wasn't a bad idea, but it's balance was terrible :
- No protection when getting unhooked made tunneling easier.
- No scratch marks but bloodpools also made tunneling easier.
- No terror radius usually gave a first hit for free.
- Some killer's power could bypass the confusion that fog was producing.
- Kicking a gen at 5% made it completely silent.
- Unhook where still noisy, pointing the killer's toward tunneling (yet again).
I understand that it was meant to be scarier, but with such a poor balance when playing survivor just made the gamemode annoying to play for them.
I remember sometime having 12 hooks game without using my power a single time, which is something I just wouldn't have been able to acheive in normal gamemode.

I feel like the classes wouldn't be balanced for lights out, the gen class giving 4% for a successful skill check is on paper is just 20% faster gen speed, and having a sprint burst in a game mode where tracking is nearly non existent means as soon as you see someone they slink back into the shadows and you have to hope to find them again.
Their other effects are nothing to scoff at either because finding gens and showing gens that you are working on is very strong and having windows of opportunity + mft + teammates getting sprint burst all add up
The other ones are niche but just giving survivors the classes are they are now wouldn't even be close to balanced

I think the mode should still be harder for Survivors to survive (horror mode) and a bit easier for Killers, but I agree. There was simultaneously not enough for Survs to fight back with, and not enough info for Killers to NOT tunnel and camp, especially Killers with no basekit info. It relied on Killers playing nice to make it fun, fortunately most of my experiences were fun in that regard. But the problem is there was no resistance for Killers and not much Survivors could do about it, while also making it way too easy to tunnel back to hooks.
I say give Survs some MINOR tool to help (like maps were in the mode) to give them a shot, and give Killers some MINOR aura read or Spies basekit or something so they have a reason to chase more and not just camp hooks. Does it ruin the mode's point a bit? Maybe. Does it make it healthier and more balanced? Yes. By far.0
