How to tell if you are in lunging distance?

Whenever I play as killer I almost always just barley undershoot my lunges and whiff or don't think I can get a hit and miss out on what should be a guaranteed hit, is there a way I can tell if I'm actually close enough to hit a lunge?

For me it's a timing and Killer familiarity thing. I know about how far my Killer goes when I lunge, and how far I go when I swing. This comes from practice, and there's a bit of gut instinct there too. I can't really give a definitive answer because it's just a practice, timing, and muscle memory knowledge thing. But the more you practice the better you get, and the more you realize how far each distance "feels" in a sense.

And yes, I do need to readjust every time I switch to a smaller or taller Killer, my baseline is Ghostface.
