Unnecessarily long post about Laurie Strode (weird in-game stuff, bugs, cosmetics)
Hi, when it comes to Survivors I'm a Laurie Strode main, I'm a big fan of the character and I just find it really cool that such an iconic horror final girl is in the game.
By playing her a lot I noticed a few minor things that feel a bit off about her DBD rendition (like bugs and a couple of weird oversights) so I decided to make a post about them in hopes they'll get looked at to make the experience more smooth/in line with the rest of the survivor cast.
I know new skins and alterations to already-existing cosmetics strictly depend on license holders, and the Halloween ones seem to be fairly strict. But since two new Halloween videogames were recently announced (and one of them has an entire singleplayer campaign where Laurie beats up enemies Streets Of Rage-style, lol) I hold out hope that maybe these things are easier to achieve nowadays, so I decided to talk about some cosmetic changes and additions based on the license BHVR currently has access to (the first movie only) at the end of the post.
POSSIBLE MINOR OVERSIGHTS:A minor but annoying thing is related to the character bio in the store; Laurie's model had a face rework some time ago, but a new portrait for her was never made unlike for Quentin, so the store shows her old model in her bio:
Cosmetic descriptions are pretty weird; the "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" very rare skin descriptions are all "normal", in the same style of the other cosmetic descriptions in the game. The default and Chapter bonus outfit descriptions lose all signs of punctuation, and that's strange but not too bad, but the bloody cosmetics are straight up Death Grips lyrics lol. They don't have any signs of punctuation but they're also written in first person and they're pretty out of character at that. Here are all of the legs cosmetics for example:
The prestige descriptions are funny, but they do look out of place because of the off-character first person thing and the lack of periods. I know it's a very minor thing I'm complaining about but yeah I'm just reporting everything I noticed about the character
BUGS:I already reported these bugs in the Bug section, but I decided to put them here too since I'm writing a big post about the character anyway. These bugs both appeared after the engine update and weren't present before.
- Comfy Cardigan: the lower white part of the torso stretches and morphs unnaturally every time Laurie slightly moves. It's even more visible when running, healing etc. during a match.
- Flower Power: falling from a big height, getting unhooked, healing, crouching + spinning on yourself and many other actions will all permanently glitch out the front of Laurie's skirt for the rest of the match
COSMETIC STUFF:The DLC clothes that you can get by buying the Halloween Chapter (right) feel,,,, extremely outdated. It doesn't exist in the movies, it looks weirdly grimey-looking and its colours and texture feel out of place in the current version of DBD. It seems to be the first attempt at the "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" outfit that is now available in the store (left), made before they could add flowing cosmetics such as skirts and open cardigans in the game.
I'm not calling for it to be entirely redesigned, but since the canon outfit it's based on is now better represented by another skin, and if the license holders allow that, the grimey texture could be slightly tweaked to look better (and match more with her other cosmetics), especially the awful yellow pants. That shade of yellow is very bad looking, the grimey texture makes it look very off and the high socks with those short pants look awkward and goofy. Simply making the pants longer -even by just recoloring the default blue pants- and toning down the stains would already make the whole outfit look much better. The cardigan looks very cool, only the texture looks a bit weird. No complaints about the Wolf In Sheep's Clothing outfit, which is accurate and amazing.
Here are some outfits and skin ideas from Halloween 1, the movie BHVR has access to for the Halloween chapter, and that could make for cool cosmetics:
Dark blue sweater over the default jacket + flared jeans (the pants in the game don't seem flared at all so these could very well be made into a new cosmetic plus flared pants look so much cooler):
Pink cooking apron + fancy hairdo:
Her best friends' outfits and hairstyles:
The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing green sweater without the cardigan:
Dr. Loomis legendary skin (obviously can't have the actor's likeness though)
The developers said that the new Laurie face rework was based on the "Death of Laurie Strode" comics. She wears a lot of outfits in that series, so maybe some of them have a chance of being accepted by the license holders? The first one would be great, because even just simple recolors of her default outfit would give more room for making outfit combos.
The Christmas Ugly Sweater could be based on the green sweater she wears under the cardigan in the movie, it could be orange (so it matches with the weird yellow pants) with the Halloween pumpkin logo or "Haddonfield" written on it, or it could be roughly based on some of the Halloween ugly sweaters that exist irl:
End of the long post, I'm a big fan of the character starving for content so seeing some more basic cosmetics (but mostly some fixes to the small annoyances that are already in the game) would be awesome. thx for reading <3
