A Small But Meaningful Buff For Trapper
Trapper is widely considered a weak killer, and while I don't think he's necessarily as bad as some make him out to be, he's definitely one that could use a helping hand. There's a snag, though; Trapper needs to keep the basic structure of his power because he's the tutorial killer, so we can't overhaul him massively, and he also can't just be flat buffed in too large a way because he already performs well enough at lower skill brackets.
With all that said, I do think there's something that can be done which plays well to everyone. It'd help newer players and more experienced players, in different ways. I propose the following change:
- Bear Traps still spawn near generators, but now spawn specifically placed in front of windows and pallets, positioned so that they'd actually catch survivors when armed.
This has the following three benefits, two major and one minor:
- Brand new players are given a slight leg up in learning Trapper, because they're shown exactly where his bread-and-butter trap spots are, but they won't be just given all the knowledge for free. There's still learning to put traps on the side of loops, or in high traffic areas between loops, or choke points to force hits… it's a start to learning him, but it's not everything given to you for free.
- Experienced players can cut down on his setup considerably by choosing when a default trap is simply 'good enough' and arming it as they pass, instead of having to stop, pick a trap up. and put it somewhere actually useful to arm it before moving on. It's not huge, but it definitely helps his early game.
- As a nice little bonus, it kinda buffs the Iridescent Stone! Traps you haven't gone over to pick up yet might actually be useful instead of looking very silly being armed in the middle of a tile.
I don't think this change is the only thing Trapper could get at all, nor do I think it'll solve all his problems, but it will help him in the area where he arguably struggles the most: Early game setup. It also won't hurt new players and might actually help them, as outlined above.
The only real downside to this change is it'd probably take a lot of work to lay out all the right spawn points for every map and map variation, but outside of that, I view this as a pretty straightforwardly healthy change.

I like the idea. It would also be cool if his traps would spawn armed to give some potential value before you run around and arm or take them.

This would be a really welcoming change, Trapper needs some love considering how weak he is.

That's definitely an interesting idea.
I would like to test this on PTB at least...
