Suggested Technician Buff
Hi everyone! Since Behaviour is finally buffing some of the many useless perks that we have I thought I'd give some of my suggestions too and see what everyone thinks. My idea for Technician would make this perk both viable and fun to use. Currently the perk has both a very niche effect, a useless one and also an unnecessary drawback:
You are apt at handling machinery with the greatest care and precision. When repairing a Generator, the following effects apply:
- Reduces the audible range of your Repair noises by -8 metres.
- Suppresses the explosion and accompanying Loud Noise Notification when failing a Skill Check.
- Failing a Skill Check instantly regresses the Generator by 5/4/3 % of its maximum possible Progression in addition to the default Progression penalty.
My suggested changes would make the perk a little different and useful for those that want to actually stealth generators. The perk would have both an active and a passive effect:
You are apt at handling machinery with the greatest care and precision. When repairing a Generator, the following effects apply:
- Completely removes the generator repair noises and the generator noises while you are repairing a generator.
- Suppresses the explosion and accompanying Loud Noise Notification when failing a Skill Check.
These effects also apply to other survivors that are performing the repair action with you.
Additionally, repairing generators for a total of 40% progress will activate this perks secondary effect:
- While you are repairing a generator, press the active ability button to completely stop the generator for 20 seconds. This will prevent both the pistons from moving and the generator from generating any noise for the duration. The generator cannot be repaired during this time.
This effect will end if the killer damages the generator or after the time expires. You cannot perform this action if other survivors are working on the generator with you.
This will make it so the perk is actually useful when the killer does not have line of sight of certain generators that you are working on, and will force them to check manually if they actually want to defend them. Skilled killers will be able to know which generators are being repaired by game sense, aura reading, noticing the survivors/scratch marks nearby, staying in the area for long enough for the active effect to deactivate or by simply interacting with them to kick them, allowing for more than enough counterplay.
Skilled survivors will know when to activate the perk's active effect to make the most use out of it, possibly preventing the killer from kicking the generator altogether if they aren't aware enough. Even if they are aware the perk is in play, it might make them doubt, since they won't be able to know the generators progress until they kick it. Making the perk both useful and satisfying to use, while not being overpowered.
Additionally, perks like Surveillance would need to make repair distance noises additive, allowing you to completely counter this perks passive effect, while still having some usefulness with the active effect. The toolbox add-on Spring Clamp could also be reworked to add this perks passive effect, turning into a budget version of Technician, since right now it's pretty useless.
These are my suggested changes for this perk, I'd like to know what you think, so let me know. Thanks for reading!
