Do we want additional objectives in dead by daylight?

why do players keep saying they want other objectives in dead by daylight instead of generators, but killers that release with side objectives (sadako, singularity, pinhead, xeno) are so hated because of their side objectives 🤨?

I think a good side objective to add would be something to make 3 gens even worse to hold because thats just not good gamepaly so heres my Idea

    Broken generator and special toolbox

The broken gen would spawn into a trial at 1-2 gens remaining at the furthest possible location furthest from the remaining generators, somewhere in a random totem spot at least 50% of the map away from the broken gen will spawn a special temporary toolbox that when used on the broken gen to turn it into a regular generator making it available to repair. Interacting with the broken gen without the toolbox will reveal to location of the toolbox to you and all other survivors for the rest of the trial.

Basically another gen that will spawn in to weaken 3/4 gens but it requires additional time investment to even start repairing

(this is an additonal gen the survivor team still has to complete 5 gens and there still starts with 7 gens in the trial, this is completely additonal / optional to use situationally)

that's actually a really good idea, i was thinking reworking the chest mechanic and making invocations, boons, and hex perks more impactful but i didn't even think about 3 genning.

Remove the silly 8 gen regression limit and replace it with this, I'd say.

I would love extra mechanics expanding on what we already have but I admit over the years I've changed my POV that extra objectives might be a bad idea. For some killers I feel that they aren't that engaging and feel like errands. Freddy and Sadako are examples where yeah it makes sense why they exist but it feels like a chore to do them even if they're a simple action.

I like Singularity's EMP because it forces engagement with Singularity's power and you can even help teammates out with it and I feel side objectives tied to killers like that are great. I'd also point to Wesker and Nemesis as well. Imagine if the syringe or spray was just a station you could only use on yourself? They'd probably be hated much more than they currently are.

The main "objectives" things I'd like to see is for Dull Totems to have some sort of use even if the perks needed to have them be used are not present and more useful / risky chest in games that can be opened with keys. I feel reworking a lot of old items and offerings that need a bit of extra love should go over the idea of extra objectives though.

I am open to anything that is healthy for the game and keeps it fresh but I've seen DBD is a fragile ecosystem with how it plays so I personally wouldn't really suggest anything new.

Additional objectives are only good if main objective doesn't take as much time.

Additional objectives waste time you could use for your main objective. Making it harder for you to escape.

I feel like we want to have additional objective, but just if the main objective takes less time. Atleast that's me.

We don't want additional time to be wasted if chases are short.

They dislike additional objectives. They still have to do 5 gens, but there is also another thing to worry about.

Some time ago, I was making a Slenderman concept, which included a side objective that would REPLACE one of the gens with The Eight Pages, so the survivors had to collect them, but only do 4 gens on top instead of 5.

Side objectives are great. But if they're implemented badly then it's not going to be enjoyable. It's not the side objective itself that's the problem, more that most players can't communicate, so it's much harder to do the side objectives successfully. Not to mention that some killers have in the past had ways to make doing secondary objectives almost impossible, like with Pinhead being able to force endless chain hunts by camping the box.

Also, Xeno isn't hated for the turrets, it's the tail attack that survivors take issue with. Singularity and Pinhead are solo queue stompers, due to the lack of communication. Lastly, Onryo has a convulted power that keeps changing, so casual players can't figure it out and get frustrated with it.

TLDR: Badly designed secondary objectives are not going to be fun. But if they are well implemented then they are a net positive.

I've had a very similar idea myself. 2 broken gens on the map and instead of a special tool box you need to find parts for them to make them into a standard gen for repairs. To repair a broken gen you need 3 of 5 parts that are on the map somewhere. So only one can be rebuilt and survivors will have to decide which one. Would help kill those nasty 3 gen set ups that killers refuse to leave.

Outside of killer tied side objectives for Survivors to do that feels organic to the trials, i think instead of just adding additional base game objectives just for the sake of it, a better alternative would be to make current objectives more interactive to do.

For example, things like different types/variations of mini games and different ways to repair the generators i feel would already improve things alot.

I think there should be yes, how ever not in the same match. Solo Q is already a mess and making everyone agree on which objective to work on would be downright impossible

So what I suggest, is have the objective have a chance to be different. Just to give an example there could be a blood delivery like Deathgarden, which replaces the generators.

if it’s built into the killers power because they’re lacking something elsewhere pretty heavily that’s not covered up by using a singular perk, sure. Like pig and hellraiser for example.

for another thing to keep me occupied to slow down gen times against heavily oppressive things and when you do make it out it was barely that slows the game for survivor across the board no matter who you face, absolutely not. Hard no. It’s a barely surviving to a half the time at best for most of the general survivor players right now. It’s a very hard no from me on that front.

Little archive challenges here and there that I can accomplish over time because it’s a lot or feasibly do without throwing a match are fine. If you want to put in a harder one here and there to test skill fine.

It really depends on what you’re talking about.
