Blood Moon: am I doing something wrong? Killer help

I've got below 30 hours on DBD. Figured I would play Blood Moon since more BP is good, right? I need a load of that to even unlock the perks from free killers. But now I've noticed several matches in a row survivors run me for minutes on end, it takes forever to catch them, and when I turn around 5 gens are done and the rest escapes. I went from getting 4k's somewhat solidly to getting outplayed so badly I'm starting to get fed up - I can't catch up to people, and I get teabagged constantly. But now I realize I'm going up against people with like 40, 50, 90+ prestige on survivors. Is there no balancing on Blood Moon, is it just free for all?

How am I supposed to compete with this? I understand killing the low level as soon as possible is a good way to pressure him, but I saw him for a split second all match.

    Grinding blood points in the event as killer isn't a great idea.

    You're better off only playing the event when you have a Tome challenge for it.
