Dead by Daylight: 2v8 matchmaking concept (Random Killers)
As we all know the matchmaking times for 2v8 killer are absolutely atrocious and additionaly (from the opinions I've gathered) most survivor players only queue up either because of the bloodpoint increase, the speedrun quests, or out of pity for those still waiting in the killer queue. However, a may have a rough solution to this problem and my thoughts which lead up to it. (Please note I have little knowledge with coding and would appreciate if such technical problems could be pointed out if noticed)
To put bluntly, the killers would be chosen at random (at the start of the match, not in the lobby), however this alone would introduce new problems such as the inability to play killer with a specific friend, the disalignment of killers and classes, duplicate killers, and simple bad luck denying the chance to play killer. And many players simply “going next” to rush getting a game as killer (there's also the loss of 8 player squads however my solution for this issue seems flawed)
With the former in mind I propose the following. “Duo Matchmaking”. The idea is to have the lobby split into 5 groups of two and allow players to start matchmaking with one other player, or join another solo player in one of these groups. At this point, players can alter both their survivor and killer prior to the trial, revealing their killer, survivor, and classes to their potential partner in crime, fixing the issue of duplicate killers/classes, and the ability to choose with whom you'll work with when the time comes (this is where the flaw for 8 player swf comes in which I will explain my thoughts on later).
-(the classes of other survivors will be hidden and in correlation duo’s cannot equip the same survivor class to maintain the limit for 4 of any given class)
From here comes the problem of bad luck and players “going next”. For this I offer a likely flawed chance increase system. Each individual survivor will be given a number of which shall increase based on the amount of time they spend within matches and will benefit from a slight compounding bonus for actions such as repairs, healing others, safely unhooking others, and chase, with the goal of punishing those who attempt to “go next” with comparatively lower odds of getting killer. After a player starts a match as killer, this number shall immediately revert to 1 giving the absolute minimal chance of playing killer until they've played their share of survivor again.
-(I had decided on compounding the bonus so players given consistent survivor matches can eventually get ahead of more skilled survivor players and have their turn as killer as a skilled player can likely bring their odds back up faster and hence get killer more often)
-(the odds players had at becoming killer shall be saved at the start and will be shown after the end of the trial in percentage format to help weed out any anomalies or cheaters)
Finally is the problem of which I lack a proper solution, 8 player squads. My opinion here is to accept the loss and limit players to queueing with only one other specified person, however I do have a lacking concept to keep the possibility open (although I highly suspect it would fall to excessive technical issues). My thought is to have the option between two queues. One which works in the manner I just explained, and one which garentees you'll start the match as survivor, and allows for up to 8 people to queue together. However, queueing in this fashion will eliminate the compounding bonus for increasing their chance as killer (chances are, if these players switch to the other queue it's with intention of playing killer which is why the time based increase remains, however we don't want to let players use this to increase their odds faster in a coordinated swf).
Now comes the main issue for which my lack of programming knowledge shines. Making the match. For this, the best I can come up with is to have queueing survivors create a unique lobby which only allows the survivor only queue players to join as survivor, and giving queueing killers with above average odds of having their turn as killer a chance of being placed in this lobby as the confirmed killer. This information will be kept secret from the killers until the match starts as to avoid another “go next” situation of trying to find a confirmed killer lobby, when the match starts a new symbol will be added to the HUD to signify that the survivors came from the survivor only queue (because we already know the difference between randoms vs groups is significant, to suddenly increase that to 8 guaranteed skillful survivors from several trials with random groups of 2 is nightmarish, with this killers are at least given warning)
-to summarize, a lobby created by survivor only queue only accepts the same queue to fill the team (and two killers), and a lobby created by killer chance queue can only can only be joined by others in the killer chance queue
That concludes my proposal. Thank you for reading. Please let me know your thoughts on this concept :)
