Lore:
Aiyana was born into an indigenous family belonging to the Algonquin tribe, somewhere in Canada, in the city of Montreal. Her father was a police commander at the local police department, and her mother was a head nurse. Both were respectable citizens. They often made donations, including to the indigenous community.
However, their younger daughter stood out from the rest. From a young age, she was fascinated by things like snakes, spiders, and frogs. She wasn’t interested in ponies or Barbie dolls. Once, on the playground, she showed her friends a shed snake skin and referred to it as a "snake pajama." While her older sister watched the usual girly shows on TV, Aiyana preferred fantasy and horror shows.
She was a kind-hearted, open-minded, quirky, energetic, and incredibly nerdy girl who had a deep love for fantasy and adventure. She couldn’t wait to find her place in the world and be accepted for who she felt she truly was. Intelligent, creative, and quick-thinking, she could find solutions to problems on the fly. Her favorite holiday was Halloween.
In addition to her love of horror and fantasy , she was fascinated by folklore and the stories told by her great-grandmother. She told me a lot about her ancestor who was a shaman and had many adventures. For example, she once shared how survived her ancestor an meeting in the Wild West with a mad bounty hunter named Mad Mick and his gang or how survived the night in the haunted forest. She also spoke of the myth monsters from folklore about of North America, especially the mystical phenomena said to appear in the Appalachian Mountains and across the United States and Canada. But she always emphasized that the myths and mystery is present everywhere—just waiting to be discovered.
That was all Aiyana needed—these stories ignited her imagination, and she vowed to seek out those mysterious things. Over time, her classmates gave her the nickname “Sabrina,” after the witch, because they felt it suited her better.
According to her great-grandmother, Aiyana had a special sensitivity to the supernatural—something that very few people possess today. She believed Aiyana had a strong connection to the supernatural. Aiyana herself had also experienced strange, unexplainable events.
Her parents tried to understand their younger daughter’s hobbies, but they often told her, “Try to be normal like the other girls at school, because if you don’t, you won’t have any friends, and you’ll struggle in life.”
She often had vivid dreams—some of them nightmares. One particular nightmare felt incredibly real, and the next morning, when she went into the bathroom, she noticed white streaks had appeared in her hair. She didn’t know what to make of it but thought it looked stylish.
After graduating from college, she set off on her adventures, just as she had promised her great-grandmother. She spent a lot of time in the U.S., especially in the Appalachian Mountains. She encountered many mysteries. Over the years, she visited numerous abandoned ghost towns rumored to be haunted—in both Canada and the U.S. She used her abilities; whenever she was in a place filled with suffering, she would get a headache.
She also visited Europe, including the Hoia Forest in Romania's historical region Transylvania and the Witch Island of Szeged ( Boszorkánysziget) in Hungary. These places were full of paranormal activity. On Witch Island, she felt an overwhelming energy of suffering. When she rested, she listened to her favorite podcast, "All Things Wicked This Night", hosted by Sable Ward, while writing down her experiences in a thick hardcover journal, complete with illustrations. She also kept a blog where followers could ask her questions. She had many followers, but she didn’t do it for popularity—she did it because she loved it.
But one day, the nightmares intensified. In one of them, she found herself in a place filled only with suffering, pain, and pure evil. She saw a creature with spider-like legs, and woke up in a cold sweat. She didn’t know what to make of it. Had she visited a parallel world in her sleep? Who knows. But she couldn’t ask her great-grandmother anymore—she had died when Aiyana was only ten. She began researching what that creature might have been. The only thing she found on the internet was a mysterious cult called Black Vale, but there was very little information about it. One night, while sketching for her blog, she noticed a shadow resembling spider legs. She jumped up and ran out of her parents’ house.
Two weeks later, she returned to the Appalachian region in the U.S. to investigate a ghost town said to be filled with evil. As she explored the ruins, she was overcome by a strange feeling and noticed a thick, dark fog surrounding her. A chill ran down her spine. She hesitated for half a minute, unsure whether to flee, but in the end, she stepped into the fog—determined to end up in the place she had seen in her dream. But she wasn’t afraid. Whatever came next, she would not back down.
