Do bEHAVIOUR developers even play their own game?
Title. I am legitimately curious as to whether the developers have played the game since… maybe launch. The game is almost unplayable with the amount of bugs; insta loss and anachronistic maps that haven't kept up with the shifting meta of the game; horrendous issues with tunneling and slugging which refuse to be addressed 9 years in, and instead they choose to focus on punishing people for going next - which happens in maybe 1 in 30 matches; completely unusable palettes and tiles literally designed to ensure that you take a down; bugs that mean the match effectively ends for the killer when they can't put a survivor down; constant issues with desync and the servers; vaulting lockers that are 5 miles away from windows. I could continue listing issues for the next 3 hours, most of which are issues that have been in the game for years.
It's regrettable that every single other game bEHAVIOUR releases fails to have any commercial impact, but maybe invest in the actual health of the only game that is keeping your 'studio' afloat instead of banking on gimmicks. I would expect it from a studio with 20 rookie employees, but they have over 1000 employees currently employed. How does a game based on killing players have animations for moris that still look like they were animated in the 90s? How is there STILL no running animation for characters in heels, so they are relegated to wearing the ugliest shoes known to man? It is unacceptable to have a game in this state so far removed from launch. Focusing on securing the next 'big' license (and I use that term loosely) to draw in unsuspecting players only to have them leave after a week because of the state of the game on all fronts is not a viable business plan.

- I don't comment on your discussion, but last month I played with one of the BHVR staff. I understood it at the end of the game because he had a banner that I discovered can only belong to the Devs. He wasn't a cheater because the game went "normally" and the Dev (survivor) died🤣
8 -
Yeah no that was someone using an unlocker tool. Always report on sight.
Also, what does it matter the "Dev" didn't survive that game. Are you saying dev must win at all times?-20 -
The problem with the go next has become much more common nowadays, out of 10 matches, at least 5 or 6 have people quitting. About the pallets, all pallets MUST be made in such a way that the killer has the possibility of downing the survivor. If not, what would be the point of having several pallets that the killer can't do anything? Do you wish all maps were like The Game?

An awful lot of people are still playing this “unplayable” game. If you are having such a miserable time, why are you still playing the game?
BHVR can only do so much to try to make everyone happy. You sound like an especially tough customer and impossible to please. If BHVR had to spend resources on making every single person like you happy, the game would not exist. The game has its flaws, but obviously BHVR are doing a lot of things very well too or else they would not have so many people playing the game for such a long time.-11 -
Not necessarily. There are devs that play the game.
4 -
There's devs that STREAM the game if anyone needs proof that it's being played, lol.
10 -
They do play the game. Historically, devs are usually pretty bad at their own game, however. Keep in mind that this is literally their job, and a lot of people like doing something other than their job on their free time.
11 -
not necessarily, a few of us play on Live very regularly
6 -
(and just to add, if you see a Nea with Zebra pants, and the Iron Maiden shirt with the Dev badge - say hello, cos it will be me!)
24 -
Mandy is the best Dev cause of this look.
-1 -
Hi Mandy! Will keep an eye out for you! Just curious though, are you happy with the current state of the game?
4 -
Still waiting for that boop of my snoot 🐷
-1 -
IF I'm ever against you, I promise I will boop the snoot!
5 -
Yes I am, I've played this game since day 1 back in 2016 and I think it's in the healthiest position its ever been in balance wise - and I've played both sides of the game for many many years now. There's always going to be some issues with the game, same as any game, and we're addressing those this year with the slugging / tunneling / "go next" things that we have planned.
-3 -
Im quite excited and nervous where y'all are going with this, ha. Going next correction will help give a more realistic take on where actual kill numbers are which I think will be very beneficial. That in itself can cause quite a chain reaction of balance changes. Im looking forward to seeing the results!
-4 -
The game is the most killer sided it has ever been and now you're giving us the most killer sided patch of all time that also includes no way of going next (both removing hook suicides and reworking how DC penalties work) to keep survivors hostage in miserable and unwinnable matches as if it was a full time job and not a video game. How is that the healthiest the game has ever been? For the killers, sure, but they aren't the only ones in the playerbase and this is coming from someone who plays both sides equally.
-6 -
No they won't. You can't force someone to play a match they don't wanna play and these unnecessary preventions won't do anything other than making survivor players more frustrated with the game than ever.
6 -
Sure you can. Some days I'll burn through my "free" dc and even my 5 minute dc early in the day. Then I'll have to think to myself: "Is this match more miserable than sitting in the lobby for 15 minutes?" the next time I feel like going next. Killers do this all the time. It's time for survivors to make that same choice.
-2 -
HHonestly, you guys should come out and advertise your streams. Who cares about the trolls? It would be so much fun to get a chance to play with yall, and see yall get frustrated too. Lmao!
0 -
Comparing apples to oranges. You guys love mentioning that the game is asymmetrical until it suddenly doesn't fit the argument.
And no, you can't. You can hold someone hostage in a match they don't wanna be in, but you'll never be able to force them to play. You think survivors will suddenly be excited to play miserable matches because they can't unhook themselves anymore? Lol, they won't be actually playing those matches.
7 -
How is it different?
-3 -
For me DBD is all about the moments! 🐽🐷
1 -
The Go Next and DC Penalty changes are survivor sided buffs, because they're going decrease the actual kill rate. When a survivor ragequits, it's way more unfair to the other survivors than it is to the killer.
And the game never keeps survivors hostage, because no one is literally forcing survivors to stay in a game. The changes are only stopping survivors from exploiting a loophole, that allowed them to quickly and easily bypass the DC penalties. Using hooks to bypass the DC penalties is an exploit.
1 -
It's not a buff, it's a change coming to aolease the killers and not survivors. Scroll through any discussion on the internet and you'll see which side is celebrating these changes.
Unhooking yourself is an exploit? I've heard it all
-2 -
I'm sorry, do you think that a survivor being unable to make the game a 3v1 at first hook… is a killer buff? Are we being serious right now?
2 -
That's completely false though
The people who suffer the most from people giving up on hook/"going next" are the teammates now stuck in a 3v1. That is why the system is being made in the first place because the alternative is "just play with friends who don't give up".
In Solo Q nothing annoys me more than a teammate giving up because they had a minor inconvenience.
"Oh it's a wraith and i messed up and got downed quickly, i'm done" like why even queue up at all if you're going into it with that mentality.
7 -
Do you honestly think that when a survivor ragequits early, that the killer gets more upset than the 3 other survivors that are still in the game?
Using hooks to ragequit, in a way that bypasses DC penalties, is an exploit. If a player ragequits, it's intended for them to get a DC penalty. That is what the new update is fixing.
4 -
It's still gonna be a 3v1 tho since there's absolutely no way to force someone to actually play the match. Them being forced to stay in it won't change anything, it's just gonna make the game significantly more frustrating for survivors which is the last thing this game needs and killer queue times prove that.
-1 -
Or they can just DC and let the bot actually contribute in their place
I'd rather have a bot than someone who gives up immediately.
2 -
Then they should remove the DC penalty, but they won't do that considering that in this same patch they're actually making it even worse. The survivor who wants to go next will now be forced to stay, but they won't contribute to the match since they don't wanna be in it which is actually the worst possible outcome for everyone involved.
-5 -
Then maybe this party game shouldn't have DC penalties as if pub lobbies have bets placed on them. There is no logical reason for a DC penalty in this game to ever exceed 5 minutes and that's being generous. This game literally cultivates spite and has one of the most toxic communities in gaming, but I'd bet the community would start self regulating if people could more often leave unpleasant matches with a bot replacing them.
If toxic people with toxic gameplay styles want to grief, they would be more likely than not, be forced to play with bots. I bet they'd get bored of that quickly and then alter their gameplay style to something pleasant that facilitates fun. Instead we have BHVR forcing others to play with them.
The "going next" change with unhooks is at the core awful because it's further removing player agency and creating more of what people don't want which is the complete removal of at least minimal gameplay. The afk changes though, are going to cause people to literally just stop playing altogether.

Or maybe you just need a new perspective? Honestly.
I have only been here since Wesker and this game as come a LONG ways even just since then.
Let's be kind and thankful for the people that are still around working on this game since Day 1. That care enough TO STICK around as long as they have. I am sure they have given this game a lot of insight overtime even if we don't always agree with it, we can find other areas where we do and work around it. Not to mention nothing is set in stone. If it doesn't work, it can be changed.
-1 -
A survivor ragequitting early, is already the worst possible outcome for the other survivors.
And hopefully, the game can determine if someone is a known ragequitter, and if they try to bypass the system by refusing to contribute, the Go Next system will consider that a ragequit, and give them a DC penalty.
-2 -
This is false. Also, there is no way you actually believe this. If you do, this is the best bait I have seen on this forum in a long time.
I am tired of survivors throwing my matches. I am tired of almost winning the game and they just give up because the killer side eyed them. Its the most exhausting thing about playing Survivor. You know what you are signing up for when you come play this game. It's not always going to go your way and that is okay.
I play A LOT of survivor, my biggest gripes are just Ghoul right now. Are Blight and Nurse annoying too? God yes. Another topic though.
This game isnt swayed to one side or the other. It needs continuous balances and soloq still needs love for sure but killer sided? I find that too funny.
-4 -
They are constantly trying to make the game better with each patch. This game isn't perfect but no game is. Honestly, what more do you want from them? How would you improve the game? I would love to hear it. Truly. Let's see if you can come up with solid changes to the game that isn't already on the table.
-6 -
I dont know if I get more upset, but if I see a survivor going next from the beginning, I declare the match a bust and just let the survivors escape. Wouldn't be fair, otherwise.
2 -
They do play their own game though definitely not all of them do from what I can tell. Plus, you likely would not know in game because I would say they don't advertise they are BHVR staff as can you imagine how that would go in this game lol?
I think some are decent but the community definitely has people who play this game far more than they do. I guess that is one reason they use guys like Hens with his 13k hours to consult, as I doubt any of the devs have 13k hours in their own game.
-4 -
Same honestly. BOOP's became so incredibly rare the last few months.
-1 -
100% This.
Just imagine a new game is released that’s exactly like DBD. It shares the same core gameplay idea, just like how League of Legends and Dota 2 are based on the same foundation. The only differences would be the characters, some terminology, and maybe a few visual elements.
For example, instead of repairing generators, you'd be fixing computers. Instead of running from a killer, you'd be escaping from some sort of monster, hunter, or anomaly. Just like in DBD, there would be survivors, except they wouldn’t be called that. Maybe they'd be referred to as Runners, Escapers, or Operatives, depending on the game's theme.
And just like how every survivor in DBD comes equipped with up to four perks in our games, this new game would have something similar, perhaps called modules, traits, or protocols but functioning in exactly the same way.
The gameplay loop would also be nearly identical: chases, mind games, looping around structures to buy time, completing objectives under pressure. Everything just the same, just presented with different names and visuals.
If a game like that existed, I’d drop DBD without a second thought. The only reason BHVR gets away with so many poor decisions is because they hold a monopoly over this genre. They know that if you enjoy this specific type of 4v1 gameplay, you’ll eventually come back to DBD because there’s no real alternative. And that’s exactly the problem.
6 -
you play survivor once a month, let's not act like you are suffering cause of hook suicides lmao
1 -
That doesn't change the fact that the match got completely ruined when the survivor ragequit.
1 -
I love how you assume this..This is all I needed to know about you. It’s probably why the vast majority of people are also disagreeing with you.
Anyone that knows me here on the forums knows I play a good bit of survivor as well as killer 🤷🏼♂️

This happened yesterday. I was Houndmaster, got my first hook in at 5 gens. I got a lucky dog 🐕 grab. The ace that I hooked went next because of it.
Now at 5 gens there are 3 people.I felt bad honestly. The game is ruined now for those survivors. They won’t stand a chance of course and didn’t. All because I got a lucky grab.
0 -
You forget the perspective of the other side. A lucky grab for you might seem like a ridiculous unfair grab for the other side. The game is snowbally so if you are getting hooks very quick into the game it explains why he thought there was no winning opportunity.
2 -
It was his first hook. They had over a minute to get a gen done and didn’t.
I got a grab through a window that they ran into. I consider this lucky, since most of the time they will easily avoid the dog since he vaults so slowly now. (Shack Window)
A mistake on their part though for running into him when he jumped over.
-3 -
The thing is: even if they play their own game this doesnt mean that they understand their game. I see players with 5 digits hours not having any insight on a healthy and balanced gameplay. Or people with 4 digits hours not having any idea of basic gameplay. The biggest issue is that they probably dont have any playtesters with a decent gamesense OR they just dont listen to their feedback. Otherwise no one can explain this development over the past years.
8 -
That explains why he quit.
-2 -
It’s not a good reason. They had 2 gens nearly done. Why quit on the first hook. It ruined the game for them, the match was very winnable.
-1 -
They still weren't done, you can regress them, etc.
The problem is he didn't think it was winnable. Games should never feel that way.
-1 -
Nearly finished. Haven’t kicked them. I had no gen regression. 🤷🏼♂️
There was no excuse to leave his team hanging. It doesn’t matter how it makes you “feel”
Do you know how many games felt unwinnable to me and I have had a complete turn around. We pulled through! Never would have known had I just went “next”
This is exactly why I am so looking forward to the go next prevention.
