Can you add an option to swap which item is active between secondary and primary?
A while ago, a patch made it possible to have a secondary item, so instead of dropping my toolbox in order to pick a vaccine, I'd instead pick the vaccine as my secondary item, with my primary item being the toolbox.
Right now, the secondary item is always "active", by that, I mean it's only possible to use that item. Dropping it is the only way to use the primary item. It creates a lot of annoying situations, such as: "I can't flash save because I'm holding an EMP", "I have a vaccine so I can't use my toolbox until I use it, or I can drop it and permanently lose it", "I tried to solve the box but the killer found me, now I can't use my flashlight during the chase".
Can we just be able to press Alt or something to use one or the other depending on the situation?

I believe this is by design. The killer items make you choose between countering the killer power or using your item.
You can't for example, just carry around an onryo tape to use when it's convenient with your med kit to be used first.

I agree, its absolutely annoying to have a chance to get a flashlight save and then not because you were transporting a tape.

This is by design, you have the choice to carry an item that directly affects the killer power - EMP for Singularity for example or use your medkit / flashlight / toolbox by not carrying the special item.
It was changed so that you wouldn't have to DROP your item and then go back to retrieve it when carrying a special item (especially as with things like Pinheads Box, you do need to interact with the item, it's not a choice).

We totally need to convince you guys into adding the functionality of switching back and forth between them.
It would be an excellent Quality of Life addition, and Survivors would not need to withhold their "power" (item) functionality until after they are done interacting with the Killer item. I'm committed, I think that would be so nice.How many updoots for pushing it into high priority queue at bhvrs? 😏

it would be a QoL thing that would impact game balance as then there's no choice to make - which could directly weaken a killers power, hence not something likely to happen.

Sure, we should not take these special item Killer's balance in vain, but Killers can be buffed to compensate when we know the extent of the damage done to those Killers. That is definitely a messy box you guys would have to pry open to do this.
You would have to determine if you are okay with some imbalance being a risk to those Killers for a while, vs. increasing the survivor player agency, tactical depth and loadout versatility against those Killers.
All Killers deserve to be blinded equally by Flashlights, No Sadako! You cant hide behind video tapes, you use Light Born then.

'QOL' that impacts game balance only happens when it's a positive for Killer i.e. Survivor spawn.
