MMR is a lie
People who say MMR is a factor for matchmaking are straight up lieing. I have played enough matches to tell its purely random.

nah, definitely not a lie. but i'll say that i have days where the matches are easy most of the day (usually over 40+ matches/day). in fact one day i escaped 40 times - that's my record. and most of those matches were playable and easy; any decent player would have been able to match that. then the next day came and every single match was horrendous; it was like highly skilled killers all day long and every person on my team was less capable than a bot. this was over 50 matches and i only escaped about 10 times. i'm not sure how often they adjust your mmr up or down; maybe it's every few hours, maybe it's once a day, maybe it's based on the number of matches you play, but it's definitely there.

I don't think so, simply by playing 2v8… That's how no match making looks like.
Also when I tried to play with my sister (new account), it was very easy to see difference with killer and other survivors.
Like really, I don't think it's very strict and it can't be with how MMR works (just escapes/kills), but I wouldn't say it's not doing anything neither. I would guess it's kinda on par with old ranked system…2 -
MMR is a factor in matchmaking, its just not the only factor. Sounds like you got a bad match? that sucks but there are reasons.
Consider watching this if you wanna understand how and why matchmaking in modern games.
-5 -
if there is any factor, it will be the one, that manipulates u into playing the game more.
because thats what generates money. but i see through it and im sick of it.
I can tell that the matchmaking is rigged. I can feel it. And it doesnt matter to me what u say because i have experience to back it up.-1 -
well you've said a few different things now. you claimed it was random initially, now you're claiming it's rigged and designed to make you play more. so which is it? lol
1 -
its rigged which is also making it non skill based but not truely random
-1 -
Conspiracy.
1 -
Definitely not rigged, definitely exists :)

Lmao, if a dev admitted that the MMR is so loose that it may as well be random, I wouldn't be shocked. I still face seal team 6 and absolute babies back to back, regardless of whether I 4k'd or lost in a 4 escape (either team).

It works for sure as long as the system has the chance to, problem is lobby-dodging kills it. Also wins are a pretty interessting way to rate players of course - you can survive with 3 hours in the game and a dream and you're basically just as good as the player with 5k hours looping the killer for 4 minutes. Of course that balances itself out because the one with more hours wins more consistently probably, but with enough luck you can play with/against each other in a relative short amount of time xD

So yes, there are technical difficulties with match making and balancing queue times, but I still think MMR should be based on more in depth statistics like how many gens you completed, teammates you healed, protection hits you took, how long you were in chase, and overall team performance. On the killer side, it would likely be similar metrics like how many survivors were killed, how short chases were, did any survivors escape, and how many gens were remaining.
When MMR is based solely off of kills and escapes, this really skews perception and does not adequately measure skill.

Sorry to ask such a general question, but does MMR apply to the twisted masquerade?
0 -
it exists to what extend ? what about it makes it skill based ?
Not showing it makes it obvious that you are trying to hide something. And why would u hide something when its not rigged ?-1 -
The fact something is hidden does not mean its rigged.
For example: the code of the game is hidden too, don't mean its rigged or supposed to be visible.Let me list the reasons why MMR have good reasons to be hidden:
1.Reduce Player Anxiety and Toxicity
- Visible MMR can create stress for players who feel pressured to maintain or increase their rating.
- Some players may become toxic or overly competitive, especially if they think a match isn't "worthy" of their MMR level.
- It can also lead to gatekeeping or elitism, where players judge others based on a visible number.
2.Discourage Manipulation or Exploits
- If MMR is visible, some players may intentionally lose games (derank) to face easier opponents — often called "smurfing" or "reverse boosting." This behavior ruins the experience for new or casual players.
3.Encourage Fun Over Rank
- BHVR has said they want players to focus more on enjoying the game and playing different characters, not just climbing a hidden ladder.
- Making MMR invisible removes some of the temptation to always play the "meta" or most powerful builds just to win.
You are free to disagree ofc, dont mean they are not good reasons for a game developer to deploy.

I would call it very broken and abusable and exploitable to say at least, do send this information to the team since apperently your guys job is to be messangers.
Current MMR system is so broken that few good matches as a killer ends up putting you with higher playtime survivors and higher chances to be put againts cordinated teams that use.
And apperently boosting is a thing? Not sure how or why its allowed and not bannable, why allow lower end mmr players to influence who you will be put up againts.
Like generally its concerning how badly matchmaking is, you can have 2 high mmr players and 2 low mmr players and u will get a killer thats more in the mid to low mmr.
I think its unfair that a killer mmr is influenced on that, SWFs should be given the top 0.1% end killers because of them having comms.
-2 -
There already is smurfing and boosting + reverse boosting in the game.
As soon as you decide to play with your friends as a survivor it gives you the killer that is similar to MMR as the lowest mmr player in your party and base it off of that, it simply wont give a high mmr killer that is 0.1% at all when it should.

I think MMR doesn't matter much as long as people are free to dodge lobbies all day every day. Instead of having removed prestige showcase in lobbies, the devs should have tackled the lobby dodging as a whole. This is still a big problem, and now we can't show off our prestige with randoms anymore. (the aftergame lobby doesn't even matter much in terms of showcasing prestiges)

Dude…. Are you new to video games? 🎮 Genuine question. Not trying to be sarcastic.
Most games hide MMR if not all. They always have.

It's interesting hearing the official stance from Mandy vs the stance from content creators who have a direct line to the devs.
Mandy : MMR is real and it works.
Hens and OhTofu : The matchmaking is so loose that it doesn't mean anything.
Which is it? My own experience in this game has shown me that it's the latter. I don't get how anyone can claim this system works when we get 7000 meta blights being matched with survivors who have 100 hours. You would think it'd be easy to prevent these kinds of mismatches from happening. This isn't just in my imagination either. I had multiple matches that fit this criteria yesterday. Extremely good killers who were playing like they were in a tournament vs people who played like they had just installed the game. Why do I even get them as teammates when I have an above average escape rate? I should be getting teammates who are least decent. I don't mind playing against good killers when I have teammates who can keep up. Sadly the current system doesn't let that happen very often. This is a huge part of why nobody wants to play survivor.

It's used for matchmaking in events only, nothing that happens in any of the events, including limited time ones change the MMR of the players - regardless of the match outcome.
1 -
Oh thank you that's really interesting!

Well…to be fair, one of those people recently suggested that survivors should be intangible (ie they can't be hit and have no collision) after being unhooked for 2 minutes until they perform a conspicuous action. So there's that. Just because they're good at the game and know a lot of stuff on the player side of things doesn't mean they really understand everything that's going on behind the curtain or what is best or even feasible for the game, even if they do have a direct line of communication with the devs.
That being said, I don't feel (emphasis on feel) that the current MMR system is (nor ever has) in any way shape or form providing any semblance of consistency in the quality of my matches as killer or survivor.

u brought good points and brings me to question if it might be for the better to not know it.
I do wanna say though, having to play with or against people across such vast differences of skill-level makes me feel like im not playing to win but the game is deciding for me whether i win or not. And it does feel like it does it in a way, where streaks are likely to accure to give u more of a feeling of agency. But a fake one.
In matches u lose, u dont feel like u couldve changed the outcome. In matches where u win, u feel like u couldve played worse and still won.0 -
In matches I lose, I know when I did something wrong and bad, it must be nice to not be so critical of ones self :D

idk how it works, but I'm a P100 huntress who has only been matched with literally new players for months now... It's annoying to know before the match starts that if i'm playing with huntress I'll obliterate them because the matchmaking will always send me the newbies... I'm talking about 2 hooks on everyone at 3 minutes, then I just chill and try to convince them I'm friendly lol
0 -
Maybe that's part of the problem? If you were ruthless and consistently 4k'd, then maybe you would start facing more competent survivors?
0 -
odd thing is, it only happens with huntress and only after i reached p100... If i play with say oreo or artisrt or legion which are the other 3 i sue the most, i get survivors that are not good, not bad, but not new. If i play any other killer i get against sweaty 4 man SWF bully squads or gen rushers that destroy me

Mandy, resepectfully, didn't another Dev elsewhere on the forums also say the MMR comes down harder on you if you win too much?
1 -
This is just objectively not true, just look at otz 50 wins series, if you go back before MMR was implemented it was relativly easy for even garbage killers to get 50 wins. These days any killer thats not high tier seriously struggles to get 50 in a row and many of the videos in this series he gives up before reaching 50 wins as a result. Survivors have not gotten stronger since than. For the most part, survivors have actually been sevrely nerfed since then. Longer gen times, less on hit speed boost, lower hit cooldown for killers,, as well as significant nerfs to the 3 core survivor items. Medkits got worse at self healing, flashlights lost their lightburns, and BNPs were reworked to be much weaker compared to the old boxes. as well as many killers getting significant buffs since then. Despite this many players feel their matches have gotten harder and if MMR were doing nothing that would simply not be the case. MMR has had an effect, it's just not extremely strict and has an upper limit.
