Legion Rework Proposal: All Four, One

Hi Behaviour!

I love your game, your killer designs, and your lore. However, I personally feel that Legion's gameplay doesn't really match what people expected based on their lore or the trailer. I know they're very popular among killer players for a reason (and therefore any changes should be carefully assessed); but I also know a lot of survivors find the "mending simulator" experience frustrating and jarring, while a lot of Legion fans would enjoy something that fits their "killer fantasy" more.

As a result, I've created a Legion rework concept inspired by the Darkness Among Us trailer, focused on the idea of making all four members realistically playable in a single trial while creating suspenseful gameplay that keeps survivors constantly guessing which member is the most dangerous at any given time. If any ideas from this would be useful - great! If not, I'd still love to hear community thoughts on it.

Check out this screenfake for a description of their proposed power:

Legion_Rework_All_Four.png

Now, the concept of an "Among Us style killer" is a meme because SWF communications outside of the game could easily nullify any attempt to disguise as survivors. However, these "false survivors" are not actually intended to fool anybody: each member of the Legion looks exactly like a member of the Legion, so players will know what's happening when they see them. Their presence as "fake survivors" exists for other gameplay reasons instead, as well as to convey the Legion's genre of horror as a group of dangerous killers hiding among good people - "Darkness Among Us" indeed.

Even knowing what the fake survivors really are, it's impossible to avoid all of the Legion members for the entire game. This means players will have to co-exist with the impostors on the map regardless, and strategically assess which one is and is not currently being player-controlled (and therefore likely to pull out a knife and start stabbing). This results in a continuous mind-game between survivors and the killer. While the killer is trying to strategically manoeuvre their team of teenage backstabbers to corner their targets, the survivors are trying to identify gaps in the Legion player's attention to thwart their efforts and kick the impostors off of generators.

In short: it looks and feels like the Legion have infiltrated the survivors, except players on both sides know exactly what's going on.

The image above is just a summary. It doesn't consider exact numbers for the Legion's power, nor does it describe the exact mechanics in place to prevent player cheese. I like your concept, legion clearly needs something extra besides its ability to simply wound survivors. But I think your concept is too hard to implement maybe something like: every time legion deals a total of 5 frenzy hits, 1 member of the legion group spawns for 1 minute as an m1, 4.6ms killer

BHVR already has an AI for m1 killers, at least it is used in 2v8 when 1 of the killers is DC, so it wouldn't be that hard to implement

    Hey, thanks! <:

I feel like how hard this concept would be to implement is a dice toss.

All of what the Legion members would need to do is already programmed into survivor AI. They need to be able to vault windows, vault pallets, traverse the map, and touch generators - that's it. Then some measures to make generators turn "invisible" to the AI if a Survivor's already on them, and block a bunch of the other unnecessary functions (healing, totems, chests, dropping pallets, fleeing from the Killer, etc).

I think your idea would be cool too, especially if the other members spawn from around the corner out-of-sight of everyone (as though they were there all along), or come out of a locker or something. (There's something inherently funny about a group of teenagers jumping out of lockers to bully you.)

I see some issues with it though. Relying on AI to get hits could make the killer feel pretty similar to Knight and have some of the same issues. Plus having the 5 stabs be the trigger for such a cool feature might exacerbate frustrations when players just spread out, frontloading Legion's value into a moment where they've already gotten a down with the 5th stab and are therefore already "winning". Maybe it could be a (very slowly) recharging alternative ability with two stocks where you open a locker mid-chase and tag in one of the other Legion members who's spawned inside it like they were hiding in it all along, and the 5th stab could speed up the recharge or grant a stock outright.

Having the ability be triggered by a locker open mid-chase would give the chased survivor time to react/create extra distance before the additional member can catch up with them - plus it'd give an easy choice to the AI in terms of who they should be chasing (i.e. the survivor you were already in chase with).

I don't think imposter-type killer will be more fun to verse than current scamper legion. I would give him something else.

Fair! What aspects of the gameplay do you think would detract from player fun? I really like workshopping this sort of thing and improving upon concepts.

This is a new killer. It's not fair to discard a popular killer that many, many people enjoy and replace it with something completely different.

I think the Legion's design should have been similar to this from release. It would be a problem to change to this unless an overwhelming majority wanted it, I agree. As a Skull Merchant player, losing the gameplay you enjoy just sucks.

But hypothetically, what would you think if Legion's current gameplay was moved to a different killer and something like this was how Legion played, to make them more in line with their lore and character appeal?

    This would be really fun

I was wondering about giving him two abilities:

    Feral Frenzy: works as now

Rapid frenzy: lock ability to attack, giving him increase speed instead, let's say truly high to make him both mobile and lethal. I'd even make that a blighted rush speed.

I was thinking more about just an ability like tokens, 1 frenzy hit = + token and when you get 5 or more you get an ally, But your idea with time sounds even better, add coldown, but each frenzy hit reduces it a little

like have 3 chained lockers on the map, the aura of which is visible to the legion when the "all four" charge at maximum, you can press ctrl to remotely open 1 locker, which will allow 1 of the Legion members to knock down the door and break free for a minute, and after the timer ends, the entity will grab and lock him/her again

Adding a special sound alert for all survivors and time with an animation of knock down door from locker

I like that idea, Legion definitely needs another tool in his kit, same with most lower tiers.
