So, your friend is moving in the direction his camera is facing 24/7? Idk if that's what your asking for clarification on, but if that's happening, it's definitely a bug or jumbled up setting. Not one that I've ever encountered before, survivors can move in any direction and look wherever they want usually (some powers lock your camera for an animation, like Mastermind grabs and Animatronic Yoinks)

What may be the case is his camera rotation is set to the same keybind as his movement keybind (example: left direction on your mouse or controller d-pad to make your character's camera rotate to the left, which can also be mapped to your movement to make your character move left) If that's the case and he's using the same button or gesture to rotate his camera and move, he needs to change it back to the default of either wasd for movement and mouse for camera, or left d-pad for movement and right for camera

The camera controls your Survivor direction, and the keyboard controls your movement. When you move the camera in any direction, your Survivor turns with it. To look behind you during a chase, use A and D while moving the camera to look behind you. You don't always need to hold W to move forward, you can hold D to go right or A to go left while using the mouse to look in one direction. He just needs to practice and get used to moving while controlling the camera.
If he's playing on a controller, I hope this video helps:
