Does Self-Preservation perk work properly?
Hey,
I've been having multiple matches in the past few days, where I picked up Self-Preservation because I noticed its neat rework with the elusive status effect that claims to..
- Hide auras
- Hide scratch marks
- Hide grunts of pain (I use Iron Will anyway)
- Hide pools of blood.
..
And yet, the killers acted as if Self-Preservation or the Elusive status effect weren't even in place, taking their effect!
It goes without saying that only a few of them had Barbecue & Chilli, but here I thought that this perk gets negated by elusive status effect, at least by the descriptions alone.
Long story short..
In all of those scenarios and matches, I had killers run straight into me. No hesitation.
They knew where I was, and I made sure to keep hidden behind a wall.
I also kept away from the other survivors, given that I ran Kindred, so it's not like the claim of the killer running after somebody else and by an accident found me is plausible here. It's not.
I've played the game for years, so I know how do killers' powers work aswell.
There was no scenario that the killer could've found me by their powers aswell. That was taken into consideration before questioning it.
Could I get a confirmation for whether the perk actually works or I am running into cheaters?
Cheers.

Another thing to add about the birds. They could also be using a perk called Spies from the shadows. If a bird goes off within a certain range of the killer, they get a loud noise notification, at where the bird took off. I use it with Henry and have even had the birds straight up tell me someone was in a locker behind me, so i checked it. Probably the only perk that avoids aura reading and stuff but still tells you where to look.
In short if they have no aura reading, and no spies from the shadows, and still go straight at your hiding spot with elusive in effect, without even looking around= cheats.

Strange. I've been using it lately too, and have had no issues. I've been left totally undisturbed on my gens without a thought to countering aura.

There is other ways you might have accidentally revealed yourself for example the crows flying or landing back. Killers do also check around gens if they don't find someone so they can still find you if they just happen to check the right place sometimes its totally about luck. Still there could be the obvious explanation that they saw you when you were already moving to the hiding spot.
and as cogsturning said for me the perk has been working totally fine in the matches I have used it.

I'm aware of Spies From the Shadows, I've been using it around 2020 on huntress for months, and even then.. That's just ~36 meters.
Those situations have been at least ~50 meters and further, literally on the other side of the map.So, besides this.. It's probably just a bad luck with the cheaters, as I suspected.
It's kinda wild, that I run into such players when the scoreboards aren't working or loading properly from time to time, so I can't even report the cheaters.
Thank you everyone for your answers.0 -
I am not saying they were using the perk I am saying they literally saw the bird fly off with their eyes. I have found a lot of survivors hiding because of them flying off when survivor accidentally alerts them while hiding and not noticing.

That's the thing.
There were no birds to be seen taking off because those have been two indoor maps, Léry's and Silent Hill with closed corridors.I do understand the concept you're describing, but unless you see the bird through walls, there's no way you can notice it, not to mention hear it because the distance was well past fifty meters.
