Is deliberately using loud, distracting noises for killers really the best way to balance?
So, before anyone says the obvious, I am fully aware that killer sound design is the way it is for a reason, simply turning off chase music, or allowing players to adjust SFX and music volumes is restricted for balance reasons. I get that.
I am reaally saying, though (Especially given the constant sound bugs over the last several patches) is does it have to be? Right now, all killer players do, is just use headphones on incredibly loud as to be able to hear survivor footsteps, and just kind of deal with the ear-drum breaking chase music/kicking generators/pallet slams etc. After nearly 2k hours, mostly playing killer, I can no longer play for more than 3 or 4 games in a row without a break, because it is that uncomfotable to have to deal with the sound design. Theres probably no easy solution in terms of balance, so im not going to suggest one, but there must be some way to make this game a little kinder on the ears, while still being able to use sound strategically.

Nah, actually i turned down the game music quite low and listen to my own music instead.
BVHR has turned down the volume of the sounds you actually want so low that you literally go deaf when certain actiosn happen (survivors tapping TOTH totems etc)

thank god I'm not the only one who finds the sound design in this game atrocious. I shouldn't have to blast my ear drums to be able to play this game. Other games like PUBG rely heavily on sound too but they made sure that you can actually hear those sounds if you pay attention without injuring your long time hearing.

Outside of chases and anything like that, I find it really difficult to play the Plague because it's like a gong is going off every 10 seconds. I get that it's signalling an event but Jesus it's beyond distracting when you're on a timer and trying to consider options and get:
"GONG! a survivor touched a fountain"
"GONG! a survivor finished purging themselves"
"GONG! a survivor touched a fountain"
"GONG! that survivor misclicked and had to touch the fountain again"
"GONG! that survivor finished purging themselves"
"GONG! all your fountains drained"
All in the space of 10 seconds.

Since there is still no colorblind support, the devs need to make sure affected players can't use their other senses to compensate, obviously.

@anarchy753 it's really bad with that glitch that makes the sound repeat itself.

I'm surprised how they let it get this bad and how long it's been like this.
When you play survivor you can clearly hear your own footsteps but when you play killer they're non existent and you get blasted with unnecessary music.
As well I noticed that when you play survivor, if your injured and move your camera in front and behind the wall there's a drastic difference in the noises you make, I get that this is intentional but the difference in volume from standing on one side of a wall to the other side is huge.
It really sucks because this game used to have sound as a big aspect to it, now with all the changes It's not.

Bumping for awareness. As killer I am tempted to just turn off the sound completely, since I cant hear survivor footsteps anyway. Atleast I wont go deaf from the chasemusic.

It really is ridiculous that when you find a survivor. The game basically turns your sound off. If you really think about it.
Replace possibly strategic sounds with loud drumming you can't hear ######### over.
I made a topic recently about the Plague and the fountains. The sound is so damn loud when in reality you don't even need that sound. Its supposed to "benefit" the Plague but I actually feel like it benefits the survivors. I lost people pre chase because of that damn sound multiple times. Its almost like the devs trying to be sneaky. Oh this loud ass sound TOTALLY benefits you killer. When in reality if the sound got removed entirely I would ACTUALLY benefit...from it not being there anymore. A 10th of a second spin is enough to see if there is any Corupt fountains around. I don't need loud sounds that drown out everything in game.

I don't main killer but I have played as killer. I play on console using surround sound (at a reasonable volume) and I cannot hear footfalls unless they're right next to me. I listen for obvious things like gens getting worked on, crows, injured survivors, chest opening, etc I don't think that a small advantage is worth hearing loss, it is a game after all.

The chase music is making me go deaf.

Dont turn it off completely, just turn it down significantly lower and listen to your own music. Its way more enjoyable.
