Nerf/Delete Ruin

So this is something that has been happening way too much online. it seems like every other match a killer will be using Ruin. It wasn't always like this. But ever since people found out that Ruin creates a guaranteed deadlock until someone cleanses the hex totem, they use it. This situation is happening way too often as it seems that a good number of people are just spending blood points on hag, getting ruin then using it on their preferred killer. I wouldn't mind it so much if it it was a once in a while thing but now that a good percentage of killers are abusing that perk, wanting to enjoy dead by daylight is becoming a chore. It's an easy shortcut to being a braindead killer instead of using wit and cunning to catch survivors. The other day we had a match against the doctor in the meat packing plant. He was Using overcharge and ruin. The match took around 45 minutes to complete because the first half was all of us looking for the hex totem. ALL OF THE SURVIVORS. I cannot tell you how many times this has happened and it's alarming how many killers are doing this now. if you can't delete this perk I ask that you nerf the effects of it so that it's still viable but won't be overused like it is currently. if you need proof I was able to save 15 minutes if that match against the doctor because we all managed to survive but only because our team was good and the doctor was awful at knocking down survivors.

Upon posting this I got another killer using Ruin. The damn clown. something has got to be done about this.

The reason they do that is because of stuff like Ruin.

And I never have the problem getting hooks as killer because body blocking while mad grit is on is a big no no

We're just now getting survivors moaning that Ruin get nerfed? Christ, they always pick later, not sooner.

Enjoy red ranks lad lol its always there. You mustn't play killer at all if you complain about ruin because at red ranks and sometimes purple you'll need it.

Also how did your game last 45 mins?! What map was it because totems are extremely easy to find and it takes no effort to find them. You also must have 3 gen'd yourself because there is no way the doctor would have been able to guard all the gens.

Please upload the 15 min clip lol I honestly want to see what was actually happening in that time.

All? If you're using ruin as Hillbilly or Nurse, you probably don't know what you're doing with them. The only reason Ruin can be considered necessary (for M1 killers, as well as Huntress, Spirit, etc.) is because they can't traverse the map quickly enough to put pressure on gens (map control).

I'd like to see Ruin get a revisit to just be less annoying, as a lot of mediocre killers do wind up really getting carried by a lucky awkward totem spawn (particularly on the Game and Blackwater) and with the upcoming changes that's going to be a LOT more frequent.

The common consensus is "we need more options for killers to delay the game.

    My thoughts:

Nerf Gen timers: Increase the base timer to 100 second (1c/s w/100 C's). This would give an additional (minimum time) of 40 seconds, which is pretty good.

Buff Corrupt intervention to block 2/3/4 gens until a single Gen gets completed, or 300 seconds pass: This will promote skill play on both sides massively. The killer will have only 3 gens to patrol early, and the survivors first need to find them. Along with that, the ultimatum 5 minute timer is to keep the Killer from Gen locking at the start of the match, although against 4 survivors, that'll be difficult, and the killer would probably lose all totems if he's able to lock, so hex perks would be a bad idea.

Buff Pop Goes the Weasel to have Tokens, starting with 2 at the beginning of a match, and capping at 3. Every time you kick a generator, you regress it by %20/30/40 if you have a token available. Gain all tokens when you hook a survivor. This will promote hitting gens later that have good progress so you can chunk them out, as well as punish "tap n' run" survivors who tap a Gen to stop regression, as you can spend another token and practically reset the Gen.

Change Hex Totems in general to have a negative effect for breaking them: this way, you could drastically Nerf their power, yet make the survivors ask the question "is it really a good idea to break this? Or should I just muscle through?" Some quick examples I can think up: Breaking Haunted Grounds reveals the breaker for 7 seconds, but the timer gets reduced by 20 seconds across the board. Popping it is still bad in general, but moreso for the popper, as the killer knows where you are. Breaking Huntress's Lullaby causes the Breaker to have %10 regression on missed skill checks for 60 seconds. HL isn't too strong saying it's long "wind up" time, so it already fits the criteria, and waiting to pop it till later is good since early game, if you're not being chased, missing a skillcheck would suck.

Quick note, I know my "changes" are broken AF. Honestly, we need to go that far and go backwards to find a happy medium, else nerfing ruin without these others being even halfway decent will lead to a completely worse Dark Times.

You took over 20 minutes to find it then and you're still convinced you're good.

I am assuming you are new to the game or this is bait, don't worry once you have more time on the game you shall realize that ruin is actually a weak perk. You will be able to hit great skill checks and actually avoid ruin alltogether soon enough it's not really that bad and you will learn how easy it is to find totems but please if this isn't bait get more time on the game before posting about balance

You know you can power through ruin and if the total is too hard to find it's probably a lot quicker for you to just power through.

Unless you're super unlucky and constantly keep getting skill checks even if you only can hit good you should still be able to power through in a lot quicker than if you were to waste a bunch of time looking for it.

The fact that the game took so long because all four of you were spending so much time looking for the totem is your own fault

Ruin is a symptom of a bigger issue, that being a lot of killers cannot put enough pressure on a map to stop survivors from blasting through all generators.

This is indeed the Dumbest thing from a person I've ever read in a forum post. Christ, these people think they're being smart. "nErF RuIn bEcAuSe I sPeNt 1 HoUr LoOkInG 4 iT XD, tHiS iS eSsENt14l beCuZ It's eAsier". F### off. THIS is why I lost faith in the community actually using their heads and only using their feelings as they moan for a Nerf to a powerful perk because the game isn't getting bloody easy for that one entitled kid because they think they shouldn't play for longer than 10 minutes in a single game, and have absolutely no competition.

True Fun in game would be to OVERCOME the challenge. Not to IGNORE it. If anything, I do enjoy having to deal with tough games. Of course, if under the influence of it excessively, it WILL start getting stressful.

I can tell you're fairly new to the game. Maybe rank 15 or so? Less than 200 hours into the game? Don't worry, you'll understand as you gain experience that survivors tend to optimize time on gens, so they don't give killers time to do anything. THAT'S the meta and that's how to win the game easily, gen rush, just go from gen to gen and don't waste time.

Ruin a neccessary evil because it gives survivor something ELSE to do other than gens to slow the game down and give time to the killer to do a couple of hooks, and it's easy to spot if you know totem spots, every structure has one or two spots. Also, experienced survivors do gens even with ruin. They take a little longer, but a gen is 80 seconds, even if you fail all the skillchecks it can't take you more than 120 seconds to complete it.

"The match took around 45 minutes to complete because the first half was all of us looking for the hex totem. ALL OF THE SURVIVORS."

I'm sorry, I'm 3000 hours into the game and I don't say this often, but I genuinely started laughing at this part, and I mean it, REALLY laughing. I imagine the match all ranks 15 looking for a totem for 45 minutes and not knowing where the totem spots are. I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend you but that was funny to imagine.

At rank 1, ruin gets done the first minute of the game, experienced players like me know the spots and there is a match in 50 when we don't find ruin in the first 2 minutes of the match.

Just power through. I can usually get 2 gens done alone while everyone else runs around looking for ruin. Killer is counting on the fact you will ignore gens because of it. Only thing worse than a team that prefers the totem hunt is when they're gen tapping like its a hot potato. Watch 2 teammates on another gen do that and I still finished first on my own.

If you want Ruin Nerfed/Deleted then do the same to

toolboxes and all addons for them

    prove thyself

how long it takes to do a gen

Ruin is NECESSARY for most killers because it is the best way to counter gen rushing, heck it can even fail at that cause i have had games as trapper with ruin where they still power through gens with ruin up and any other perks that will cause gens to be slowed either

    1. take to long to have a big enough impact to make much of a difference
    2. does not have enough impact to be worth the perk slot
    3. can be easily countered by things like self mend (thanatophobia)

plus most of the time your totem will be very exposed and easy to find, there is usually only 1-2 half decent to RARELY good totem spots per map, and the odds of your 1 TOTEM spawning there instead of the other 4 dull totems is unlikely, which is why they are changing totem locations with map reworks and such later

plus for characters that need time to get momentum like trapper, especially trapper because you need time to get your traps and set them up then go after survivors or you re just a M1 killer, and ruin helps to give you that time. plus ruin causes some survivors (sometimes) to stop doing gens and look for hex ruin, getting them to roam the map and make it easier for the killer to find that first survivor because until you do that you are at a major disadvantage as the killer
