Deafened

So to my knowledge the only thing that can deafen survivors are firecrackers and Hags Disfigured Ear add-on. But honestly it's a mechanic that could really be expanded on. Both survivors and killers greatly rely on hearing to achieve their goals so perks that deafen the other side temporarily (on timer or until healed some way) could add a new layer to gameplay

I don't think that deafening mechanics would be so strong, if survivors are affected.
Also, imagine having to listen to the Disfigured Ear sound effect over a longer amount of time...

I imagine you could change it to be silence rather than ringing, and I wouldn't underestimate having one of your major senses cut off entirely.

This could be interesting. How do you suppose it could be used?
My main concern would be that survivors rely mostly on sight rather than sound, and even so, the deafening effect does not completely mute sounds, it just muffles them. I would be worried that it would be more of an annoyance than it would be practical (assuming it stays the same).

The game does become extremely hard if played with no noise, so this could be a good new status effect. Sound becomes muffled in the Clown's gas, which does make it difficult to know what is happening for me at least.

Playing with no sounds is definitely way harder! So i can see it as a new, more used, status effect. 🙂

Yeah, it could need some sound redesign. Some people can't stand the distortion/ringing sound.
Going semi-silent could be a good way to be sure it doesn't irk anyone. 😁

It could be a Hex and work like "Hex: The Thrid Seal" but with earing instead of sight. Ot better yet: Buff that Hex with that new deafened status effect

I would love to see a new status effect like this :o

Fun idea. It wouldn't have to be a loud sound effect that actually deafens you. Also, it should be something that is not linked to the power or attack of the killer.
Here's one perk idea:
Survivors gradually lose their hearing during the course of the game, an effect that can be mitigated by cleansing dull totems. For every 50 seconds into the game sounds for survivors become 20% quieter. For every cleansed dull totem, the maximum level of deafness (100%) is reduced by 20%.
Probably wouldn't work perfectly like this, it's just a quick idea. But I love the potential psychological effect deafness has on players.

Yep. I mentioned this in another thread.
It's a status effect that's already in the game, but it's not really used much at all. :D

I like it!

This mechanic is called the "Chase Music."

I agree with @Peanits . Sight is much more important than sound. Think of all the killers with stealth abilities or perks. You can't rely too much on sound.

Great idea, that would greatly increase the value of that "Hex:" perk. I think people are highly undervaluing how much sound matters in this game, especially as a survivor.
Imagine if you couldn't hear Myers' breathing when he approached you. or better yet, remember when Ghostface still had that terribly loud trash compactor sound when he was near you. Yeah...it makes a difference.

You're right, sight is more important. That's why taking away sound can be a strong effect without becoming overpowered. You're forced to rely exclusively on sight and prediction. No TR, no chase music, just sight.
