Just wanted to share the Tome 4 challenges.

wow... some of these are so situational I wouldn't even call it a challenge. Like unhooking 3 (THREE!!!!) survivors AFTER the end game collapse has started is ridiculous. Might as well just find people to farm these.
2 -
You HAVE to have a full SWF to do these. Show me someone doing this as a solo survivor, or even 2 man SWF and Iโll eat my words. Like I said this is not hidden or subtle at all, this is their blocker to make sure they donโt let everyone โearn back their cells,โ to keep repeatedly getting premium rift for free.
1 -
Ok, lets go over this 1 by 1
First the survivor side
-6 great skill checks with a perk equipped.
Easy enough.
-2 flashlight saves.
Kinda hard, especially the 2nd time, but ok. Its doable.
-4 solo generators in 1 game.
Impossible. You need to be in a swf. Guess I'm ######### as a solo player...
-4 chests.
Again, impossible unless swf.
-4 pallet stuns.
Pretty hard, doable but... killer gotta be eating those pallets.
-3 unhooks after the egc started...in 1 game...
This might be possible in a swf team... and even then it's gonna be really hard. Solo, basically impossible.
-be the last one out.
Ok. Not so hard. Done it before a few times.
Final tally for survivor
4 ok, 3 impossible.
Now for killer
-5 basement hooks in 1 game.
Ok...doable.
-kick 8 times
Easy
-chase for 180 seconds
Easy
- kick the same gen 4 times.
Not super common, but can happen... ok
- 3 sacrifices during the egc
Yeah... that's a really hard one. Doable with bloodwarden...still pretty hard.
-5 traps in 1 game
Ok.
- 4 basement sacrifices
If they don't DC... hard, but doable
- catch everyone in a trap
- ok...hard. but doable.
Not gonna lie, survivors got the bad end here... there's nothing on the killer side that I would call flat out impossible
1 -
i think BHVR needs to just do away with master challenges. make it so level 4 just has you do a lot more over multiple games. like instead of the nearly impossible repair 4 gens in one game, have it be like repair a total of 8 gens.
5 -
while I do like that they add different challenges to switch things up these are kinda stupid, like I know these are supposed to be hard, but like sacrifice 4 people in the basement? Guess Ill just play Cannibal for that one. I only got 1 flashlight save before and I have to get 2 in a single trial? Escape after other people have escaped? If all 4 people run this this will be stupid. Unhook 3 survivors during end game collapse? As far as I know killers camp people during end game collapse and it also has to be safe AND during end game collapse? Stupid
0 -
Guess this is how people will get the lore
Because the other side is bs.
1 -
Just shows that the one who designed these challenges has no clue about DbD. 2 FL saves, like does he think it's still 2016? On red ranks any killer with a few braincells will never get blinded. You actually have to DERANK and verse baby killers to do this lol
5 -
Okay, let's try to plan these things out.
Plunderers King
- Use a Shiny coin and tell the lobby you're doing a chest build to get them cool stuff. This has got a 50/50 chance of getting folks to leave the chests to you. Also Shiny coin adds 2 chests so you have a +1 in case someone with Pharmacy ignores you.
Dark Senses
- Use the Shroud of Binding and run Bond. Keep watching the team together as much as possible.
Decisive Light
- Empathy or Object of Obsession and Spine Chill. Additionally consider Streetwise. Use Empathy to rush to the chased Survivor while they are injured and then go for the save once they get picked up. Aim for the killer's mouth. If you're bad at blinds use add-ons that increase the beam's visual brightness and size of the beam.
Last Minute Hero
- Borrowed Time Obviously, Basically gen rush harder than you've ever gen rushed before. If you feel confident enough consider (No Mither, Resilience, Prove Thyself, and Borrowed Time.) Your item should be a Commodius Toolbox with Wire Spool and Blueprint add-ons. Offering should be either Shroud of Binding or the lesser Shroud of Union. As the last gen is getting finished run ahead to a door and make noise near there and block the switch. Best case scenario the gen finishes and someone goes down then just sabotage the hook save efforts without getting downed. Make sure to open the door first though.
2 -
Hmm,
Cut Coin - Prevent the appearance of 2 chests.
I have many of these. Now, when shall I use them?
3 -
I just did it in level 1. Its easy. Bring a coin offering.

The way I see it is that if I don't get all the unlockables...so what:
-I can listen/view the 'lores' on youtube.
-I have plenty of good skins already.
-I don't give two hoots about the charms/hanging items.
So yeah...I like doing the challenges for the extra bloodpoints but not overly bothered if I don't get all the trinkets.
4 -
One not very elegant but easy way to fix these challenges (if the devs have the desire to) is to remove the "in a single trial" requirement and pump up the numbers. It's going to be insane when people start to try to complete these challenges in their current form and other players start sabotaging their efforts. There's too much potential for griefing on top of the difficulty.
15 -
If you think "Sacrifice 3 survivors in EGC with NOED" or "Sacrifice all 4 survivors in the basement" is easy, you're on airplane mode xD.
2 -
So much for casual players unlocking all the archives.
2 -
Someone tried to do the a chest challenge yesterday. They told us in the pre-game chat that they were doing the challenge. I told her that I wouldn't touch the chests then.
At the end of the game, I asked her if she completed the challenge and she said no. Someone else got the basement chest. So, even with giving the survivors a heads up in the pre-game lobby, these challenges can be difficult. The one survivor that searched the chest most likely hadn't read or seen the pre-game chat box and didn't know.
The flashlight challenge sounds really hard to me too. I've never used a flashlight to blind a killer or tried. I was always afraid that would irritate them. I guess I'm going to have to start giving it a try. I'm scared! :)
5 -
I can understand the developers wanting to make casual players not being able to complete the Rift but doing that to the Archives as well?
3 -
If Im not capable of receiving 1000 cells through the rift bc of this last tome, I will never purchase the premium rift again. This looks like a ploy to make it hard af to gain back the necessary cells to pay for the next rift. Nope...fool me once...
3 -
Another option would be to remove the "In a single trial" requirement, keep the numbers the same but add another requirement: "Can only get progress on MacMillan Estate maps.". This first release is supposed to be focused on the Trapper and Claudette but most challenges have nothing to do with them. This way there is at least some sort of weak connection to the Trapper, and it gives the map offerings a bit more use. Could become very annoying to play on those maps most of the time though because a lot of people will be using those offerings.
Edit: Another option would be to double the progress earned on MacMillan maps instead of working only on those maps.

I like that idea a lot. Part of the reasoning behind the rift is to encourage people to play more. I'll soon get frustrated when I can't manage a second flashlight save in the same match and will end up giving up. Ask me to perform a few more flashlight saves but in as many matches as it takes me will give me motivation to play without the discouragement caused by failure.
5 -
Well this is the thing...as a killer if I get blinded by a survivor with a flashlight, they've just signed their death warrant. Obviously it is a part of the survivor abilities, but it does irritate killers and they remember the flashlight user.
I'll have to swat up on my flashlight skills...if I even get to the challenge and/or can be bothered going for it.
1 -
Glad I didn't purchase the premium pass getting 4 in the basement is literally one of the hardest things to do. And the survivors will realize what you're trying to do and if you're close to getting it they'll just dc to spite you.
9 -
Some of these challenges are literally impossible to complete unless the killer/survivors are farming and/or your teammates let you do them.
Also, everyone will be trying these same challenges at the same time and when 3 survivors try to flashlight save then no one gets it.
Just looking at these challenges it's clear that bhvr never wants anyone to complete these and instead purchase the rest of the tiers with auric cells.
1 -
Mate, even for hardcore players some challenges are impossible or simply out of their control.
1 -
I don't believe that someone didn't read the chat. I believe someone read the chat and decided to block then from doing the challenge because people are awful.
8 -
Wow this is really going to produce some toxic plays as well as salt and frustration.
Really wish they would lower the Auric Cell rewards in exchange for reasonable challenges.
3 -
As long as they don't ask you to activate "Mettle of Man" twice in a single trial there's nothing that wouldn't be achievable.
Seriously though, I don't mind difficult challenges, but I am proud to play very fair as killer. I have not gotten an actual hate message so far, quite the contrary, I get a lot of compliments from survivors. I fear that when going for four basement sacrifices (or even just end game sacrifices with NOED which I have not used a single game so far) would require me to play in a way that I absolutely don't want to and that'll result in my inbox overflowing with the hate messages I was missing thus far. Even worse, I couldn't even blame the survivors for it if I'd center my entire match strategy around getting everyone into the basement, and that for multiple games because I surely won't achieve that in the first game.
At the very least, please don't lock lore behind such challenges. I can live with missing rift fragments and collecting them through regular gameplay, but lore would be disappointing.
6 -
I don't think this one is hard actually, just use the best extra chests offering and immediately run off for chests and do nothing else until that's done. Unless someone else is doing the same thing should only take 1 or 2 matches

Ya I think they should be careful here, mcote is fond of saying this game is meant to be frustrating and that's part of what's so great, which is true, when it comes to play versus player which is up until this point all this game has offered. When it comes to player vs environment, noone thinks it's fun or cool to be frustrated over and over again trying to complete a ridiculous challenge that is ultimately out of your hands, which several of these challenges are extremely difficult and luck based. The 4 gen one is particularly aggregious, at least for a solo player. I've been a big defender of this whole rift idea, but some of this is very lame.
2 -
Yeah I suck at flashlight saves lol. For some this challenge will be a joke, super toxic neas and dwights I'm looking at you. For the rest of us it'll make us git gudder at least. This one had some value making you learn a new skill, some of these are trash tho
0 -
Are those the Challenges of the Live Version or the PTB? Because Level 1 already changed compared to the PTB.
Regardless, you can get the Rift Fragments via playing as well. So I think its ok to have hard challenges. The ones for the Lore are pretty doable. You will need a few Trials tho.

Reading a lot of the comments in this thread got me a bit irritated, so I'll throw in my two cents.
To everyone complaining that the Tome difficulty is some sort of scheme that will prevent you from completing the rift - that's absolutely not true! Here's my reasoning:
Yesterday when I started the rift pass I was on level 8 (page 2 of the rift). According to the info the devs provided, due to an error on their end we got to gain progression in the rift from the 22nd of October. Therefore, in a week of play I got through 1/9th of the rift purely from playtime. As the same amount of XP is required for each level and every page has the same number of levels, then if I keep playing the game at the same rate and completely ignore the Tomes, in theory i should still be able to unlock the full rift before it closes (arguably with around 1 week to spare - 1 week per page, 9 pages in total and 10 weeks/70 days per rift).
Thankfully, real life often gets in the way of spending our time playing video games, so I probably won't play as much every week, but that is where the tomes come into play - there are enough points in there to make up for the time where you can't/don't want to play the game (even if you don't actually complete all of the tomes).
Granted, some people play pretty casually and maybe not more than 2-3 hours a week. Here I would argue that these players shouldn't really expect to be able to unlock everything anyway, as progression in the rift is linked to playtime..
Now my concern is with the actual tomes. I'll start by saying that even if this is a legit leak, it's not the final product that we've received. By all means, we should provide our feedback in hopes of being able to influence a decision, however don't bash a product so eagerly that hasn't even been released yet!
If the screenshot that OP provided is what actually goes live, I'm pretty confident that I won't be able to complete the Tome. If I do, it will be pure luck. It just seems extremely difficult and this difficulty is increased by the fact that you can only complete a challenge if you've selected it beforehand. This means that I and probably many others will miss out on experiencing the new lore first hand (we'll still be able to watch youtube videos of it, but arguably, it's just not the same as unlocking it yourself). I would love to avoid that, so if the content proves to be impossible for most of the player base to unlock, I would suggest the following change to future tomes:
Allow people to select 2-3 challenges at the same time and add a condition that if you managed to gain progression against multiple challenges in a single match, you can only save the progress towards one of them. For example I've selected the challenge where you have to hook x people in the basement and the one where you have to hook everyone in the basement in a single match. If by some freaky lucky circumstances i manage to hook everyone in the basement, at the end of the match i will choose to submit the second challenge and abandon my progress towards the first one. I think this change will keep things challenging, but allow us to grind the easier tasks with a small chance that we might be able to complete one of the really tough ones if somehow everything just clicks and you have one of those perfect games.
1 -
If they end up going through with these challenges I will be deleting this game and never spending another cent on a BHVR product.
3 -
One major flaw is that we are all have the same challenges so everyone is very aware what others are trying to accomplish. Our community (generalization here) will try to sabotage the others from completing their challenges. (I had a Dwight in a game last night making all hook-saves just to prevent anyone from getting their 2 they needed).
If at all possible there should be multiple iterations of the challenges so survivors aren't pretty much fighting for the same things and there's some variety and more room for people to complete the challenges with less competition.
I am nervous when some of the killers I never play start to be in the challenges. I can't throw a hatchet and hit anyone even if they are pretty much on top of me. Unless I derank to yellow ranks I'll never finish something that involves her- or the others I don't play. Which is a big shame.
4 -
The fact that so many challenges are out of your control is frustrating.
Survivors with same challenge can screw each other over just by doing their thing.
Teammate who guesses your challenge can screw your over to troll.
As killer, survivors can DC to screw you over.
0 -
I also DON'T believe it's a scheme from the devs so we dont get our cells back... but I do think it's badly designed. As some people said, sounds like someone who doesn't play the game made these..
I also agree the fix would be just removing the "do it in 1 trial" requirement.
1 -
Just as I thought, The Rift is made to be unbeatable. It's a cash grab, That's how these kinds of battle passes make so much money.
It was obvious from the fact that you earn the $10 back for completing it that it was a huge gamble but this is nearly impossible to beat.
3 -
Big oof.
2 -
Which is why as soon as I heard about them, rumors even, I held off on my 10 bucks. If I had a legit shot and failed I would gladly put my 10 in to get 5 back for example. But this feels like a slap in the face so Iโm out for the premium
5 -
The one good thing is that people are becoming aware of the challenges and hopefully won't be as upset knowing that fact. You never know though.
0 -
I wonder if there's going to be an increase in toxic Doctors and salt towards anyone playing Doctor (even if they aren't toxic) due to the Decisive Light challenge. Just keep putting the Survivor with a flashlight in tier 3 and they can't complete the challenge.
0 -
TBH I only bought this pass for Jake's and Nurse's cosmetics so I don't have to wait. After this rift I'll only buy a rift is I have A) Completed the Free one or B) I want to get a cosmetic without waiting 6 months

The only "Bullshit" challenges are:
Dark Senses - If this means you have to FULLY repair 4 generators by yourself, then ye.... good luck with that as solo, that's impossible.
Last Minute Hero - Impossible too, like hell, how would anyone think stuff like that happens? If even killer allows for an unhook during EGC, it will be a trade, where rescuer goes on the hook and unhooked person runs away. It's stupid AF, who came up with this!?
Six Feet Under - Well, there is an achievement for this already, got it too, but... it's not easy thing and that challenge by itself is just LUCK based not "skill" or something you can prepare for!
One For Each - One of these things that can be completed most likely after rank reset, not when you are back into reds... .
Rest seems doable.
People complained about plunderer one. That thing is so easy, just burn the coin for 2 more chests, grab Pharmacy + Plunderers and ... bah, done. Completed it already twice (I didn't take the challenge at first and had to repeat it for 3 searches in a single trial).

I was having fun with the first level of the Tome until I saw this... ๐ I don't think this is possible for me since I play solo. I don't play with NOED as killer and it seems so toxic. I don't think survivors will stay in the game... If I do that.
I'm happy that I decided to stay with the free rift and only pay when I was finished.
4 -
Most of the Killer ones require toxic playing or perk combos that will see Survivors suiciding or Dcing. They are no more achievable than the Survivor ones.
Imagine the 'Sacrifice (not HOOK, SACRIFICE) 4 people in one match in the basement'; You have to run Agitation & Iron Grasp and one Survivors know that, they WILL pull the 'I'm not having fun' DC card.
Does BHVR not realize that just because they can do it on internal testing where they are all buddies does not mean the goals are at all close to achievable in a real game?
7 -
If all the tomes or whatever were like level 1, the battle pass absolutely would be reasonable. But in its current form? No way.
5 -
Here is the main problem, is that one side will be out to spite the other, because the challenges are not random to one person and that they are shared across everyone, as soon as someone spots a player who is trying to achieve X challenge they will go out of there way to make sure that player doesn't get it.
2 -
For the flashlight saves what good sane killer isnt gonna face a wall when picking up survivors the second he sees a flashlight in the lobby anyway? Thus preventing the save maybe at rank 20 anyone with a brain faces the nearest walls or fakes pick up to lure the flashlighter out
3 -
For the noed challenge youd prettymuch have to tunnel the 1st guy, let the other 3 complete the gens, bittermurmur the survivors, open the gates, bloodwarden with noed and hope you can find the other 2.... atleast its worth 60k
0 -
I agree and it sucks. I don't think the devs want us to be able to unlock it all.
