Console optimization

I'm still getting this on PC. GTX 1060 6GB, low settings. Almost every time a status effect is applied the game freezes for a half of a second. Could be Sloppy, Dead Hard, getting hit by Freddy, getting shocked by Doctor, etc.

Maybe they're just incapable. They can't figure out how to fix the ban exploit, so I'm sure there's plenty they can't do.
3 -
Be nice if they'd just say "we can't and won't be fixing current consoles."
3 -
You could be right. It might very well be that the current iteration is the best they can do for current gen consoles based on their knowledge.
That won't happen because they won't risk giving that sort of answer and losing a lot of players. No company would do that, to be honest. The suits would never allow it until (or if) their console player base on the next gen consoles out-numbers current gen DbD players.
5 -
So you want them to lie? That's odd.

New reasons for closing the thread has now emerged. Apparently it was not just spamming (/s). It felt VERY UNFAIR that it was closed so quickly after one user's mistake, the warning was at the previous page and the one who bumped it wasn't probably even seen the warning.
In my opinion, the devs were not bashed in that thread. They were CRITICIZED for a reason because of their ignorement of the issue. At this point, the devs kinda deserve the call outs they get. They've had multiple weeks to investigate and still NOTHING!
FYI for BHVR, the issue going to only get more attention the more it is ignored.
12 -
They wont be. The notification on the main discussion makes the fact that they are abandoning current gen VERY clear
6 -
Why are you just trying to start arguments in this post? If they are incapable of fixing fps then saying they can't and won't fix the FPS wouldn't be a lie.
7 -
I've heard similar claims before about, well, everything. Then the devs follow through and nobody so much as apologizes for their "totally legit criticism" (insults) of the devs.
0 -
They aren't, which is why I asked my question.
0 -
I know they won't actually because money. It would just be nice to get a straight forward answer if they won't fix fps.
1 -
Devs following through? What kind of loopy land have I entered? The devs ignore a ton of valid feedback. How did old Legion make it past the PTB? How did Deathslinger?
Now, the devs have done fantastic work, dont get me wrong, but saying that they consistantly follow through is wrong
4 -
You're confusing "ignoring" for "not doing exactly what the feedback says". The devs do the latter, like any rational human being would and should given all the contradictory feedback. Some people thought old Legion and Deathslinger were just fine. Others did not. So when you say they "ignored" the feedback, what you really mean is that they didn't do what you wanted.
Let's run the list, shall we?
- Graphical upgrade? Currently being worked on.
- Camping penalty? Done.
- More licensed killers? Done.
- More lore? Done.
- MMR? Currently being worked on.
- Hillbilly rework? Done.
- Leatherface rework? Done.
- Legion rework? Done.
- Freddy rework? Done.
- Nurse rework? Done.
That's just off the top of my head.
1 -
You know the context in which it was said. Quit trying to stir up arguments in this post. It's scummy move to try and have to post closed.
7 -
So out of all of the feedback, these are the only examples you can think of? Thats kind of sad actually
3 -
I didn't say "feedback", that was you. You seem to be under the mistaken impression that just because we propose something, the devs automatically have to make it happen. They do not. We're not their boss, we're their customers. Feedback is important, but it's not the only thing the devs are going to look at when making decisions. Games like that inevitably end up becoming trash.
I also said it was off the top of my head, so excuse me if I can't remember every single thing they said they'd do and then did.
0 -
Oh is it that so? I can't wait for the devs to fulfill their promise to improve console performance by December 2018 and begin taking steps to get us to 60 fps.
Oh wait, silly me, it's 2020 and the majority of the frame rate issues have gotten worse. At least we can crossplay with people with 60 fps though right?
I'm not trying to pick at the devs here or at you, but saying they'll "follow through" is legitimately laughable. It's coming up on 2 years since things were supposed to have gotten better.
-
Also, if asking for any kind of update on console optimization is an "insult" I'd like to know what we should do.
There's a big difference between people asking for NOED nerfs, or gen speeds reduced, or whatever and people asking for info on if BHVR is still working on giving console players the ability to go through the main menu without it freezing every time you click on something.
Don't lump everyone here together just because some people are furious that the game runs like garbage.
7 -
What I want is for people to describe their issues without insulting the devs or breaking other rules so that threads like this don't get closed because of some users saying stuff like "devs bad, lul" while everyone else justifies/accepts/excuses that behavior.
Additionally, I want people to be honest about the devs' history instead of calling them liars all the time and saying they never follow through with anything.
Finally, I want people to stop conflating "feedback" with "commands that the devs must follow no matter what". You'll (using a generic "you", I don't mean you specifically) have more realistic expectations when you understand the relationship between developer and customer, which will help prevent needless disillusionment.
2 -
Oh ok.
Well, let me introduce myself.
I'm the thread starter of the topic that was closed.
I've read every reply that was there - that's barring the ones the mods deleted before anybody could read them.
I'm telling you, that topic was absolute heaven, compared to every other topic in the board.
If you don't believe me, go and read it. All of it, of course. It's here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/179630/bhvr-can-we-acknowledge-fps-on-console-is-awful-since-4-1-0/p1
I'm telling you this because I never saw your nickname in that thread, so I suspect, but I might be wrong, that you have no idea what you are talking about. We'll be waiting here when you finished reading it.
Sincerely,
a concerned console player

People bashing Devs unnecessarily? Unless it's proper criticism, bashing the devs is not needed and I have seen it a bit.
History? Remember the Optimisation patch that was promised and it came off as a "pass" that I didn't even notice? After that it makes it extremely hard to trust them on this subject when they do that. It even had a roadmap i'm pretty sure.
The game on console with memory leaks, low frame maps etc is borderline unplayable in certain situations. This isn't something that "oh the devs will see feedback and might fix it", it not a balancing choice where "oh i personally don't think X killer is OP". This is something that genuinely needs to be fixed and is a problem. The devs frankly need to look into the issue we are proposing to fix it due to how much it effects console players.
All I want is updates. I just want them to say "We know console op is an issue, and we are working on it".
EDIT: Reworded something and grammar.
5 -
I'm not gonna read that entire thread, that's just ridiculous. On the first page alone, however, I see one person calling the devs liars, another calling them idiots, four bumps, and a few accusations of "devs don't care". That's the kind of stuff that gets threads locked, and it's the kind of stuff I'd like to avoid.

"Optimization" is a complex process, it's not as easy as just having one patch where it all gets magically fixed. I've spent days optimizing just one part of one feature of a program I wrote, and that was nowhere near as complex as a full-blown multi-platform game. A "pass" is a much better descriptor of what optimization means. With that said, the pass was noticeable to me on PC, and back then I definitely recall hearing console players praising it as well (not too much, though).
Regarding updates, you've already been told - repeatedly - that the (extremely valid) complaints were sent to the dev team. At this point, you just have to wait for their response. Complaining more isn't going to get it done faster because that's not how anything works.
0 -
cool.
Instead what I see, in the first page alone, are 21 (twentyone) console players struggling with frame rate, with the vast majority of them being constructive and helpful.
Anyway, thank you for your feedback, we'll let you know how much your approach help us out.

I think what our friend is trying to say is that there are many places that people complain about known problems, many of which will never be resolved (DS, NOED, gen speeds, etc). The thread seems to have often been some people talking about an issue in one contained place. While bumping isn't productive, there was some productive discussion for those people about the frustrations experienced. It might seem whiny, but it isn't much different than many other threads on many other topics.
5 -
Here's the thing though: Did they actually hear the responses?
Especially after the console op "pass" situation AND closing a 35 page thread? It's hard to take their word for it.
We don't know, but if they said they have acknowledged it and are now working on it, everyone would be happy.
4 -
that's exactly right.
in fact, as soon as the thread was closed there has been an overwhelming amount of new topics talking about console problems and/or asking why the original was closed.
Was it worth it? Was it helpful for the clarity of the board? Is it easier for the mods to moderate a number of threads instead of a single one? And, most of all, was this a good de-escalation tactic?
Hell, if the problem was the bumping they could have pinned the post, instead of the umpteenth "design your own perk!" one ;)
I'll let you all decide by yourselves.
10 -
What's there to de-escalate, exactly, if people were as peaceful as you claim? And why should they reward people breaking the rules instead of enforcing them without playing favorites?
I'll let you all decide for yourselves as well.
0 -
Yeah because the cosmetics costs as much as the game...
4 -
It says next gen will have better graphics but didnt mention anything about better performance.
4 -
It should have better performance based solely on the fact that it'll have considerably better hardware and architecture (or so I hear).

I rather enjoyed most of that uber thread, especially the humor & Star Wars memes. In the main it was civil and even constructive. I tossed in my optimization concerns and commented on others, but I also reached out to our PC cousins for their input several times and was warned (not by a mod) it was best not to repeatedly do so. Plus I posted an entertaining fps prayer several times. If any of that contributed to its closing I do appologize to you all. This is a subject we all feel passion for, just as we feel passionate for DBD.
On topic: the combination of the Clown's gas expanding right as a pallet was droped momentarily froze the game. I was mid slow vault and actually stopped for 2-3 seconds, then finished the animation.
Xbox1, Sheltered Woods, shack window, outside pallet, Nea on hook 1st phase (thankfully) beneath us, 60-70ish ping. Unhooking her also dropped frames hard, and the Clown was not near us at the time.

PC Player: wow console killers just tunnel idk why, everyone there is a bad player
Chad Console Player: i killed 2 pc players using only zanshin tatics at 20 fps because of murky reagent on lerys
8 -
You would think so, but my xbox one x doesnt handle it that well. It should be better than my old PC, but it doesnt. My old PC at medium graphics and 100% resolution gets 43 fps which feels so smooth compared to my one x.
3 -
Yeah, I was gonna add something like "But 'should' isn't exactly a guarantee nor what you want to hear when you're having problems", but I forgot.
0 -
Lerys alone drops it to 15, plus murky would probably be around 10.
6 -
yup, its awful. Also, gotta mention how the terrible framerate can legit give people headaches and migraines from how choppy the framerate is (like me)
going against a doctor/slinger/killer with a blight cosmetic on Lerys/hawkins/midwich just makes me DC because i dont wanna be physically hurt from a damn game...
9 -
Combine Lery’s with Doc and you get only 5 FPS. Lery’s performing so badly probably means that it should be disabled temporarily (15 FPS normally, 5 with Doc).
7 -
I loved seeing that prayer, it was truly an enjoyable thread that had an unfortunate ending.
Once had my game freeze on Lery’s as I opened the door, almost died too because of it, not exactly sure if I got unlucky or it’s because of our current state of optimization. Maybe other’s have experienced as well?
4 -
Let us pray....
We humble consolers pray for our frames, the frames of our friends and family, the frames of our neighbors, and most especially the frames of our brother and sister Switchers.
We humble consolers ferverantly wish the mighty devs hear our prayers, and love our platforms as they love their child, DBD.
9 -
I really love this prayer.
On their official update about next gen there was no mention of optimizing current gens. Hopefully they do something to fix the FPS issues we listed in the original post.
6 -
You would think the two having been reworked together would play well together instead of worse. 😂
4 -
I see many, many off-topic posts all the time and they rarely excersize the ability to close the thread. And just because they "broke the rules" doesn't mean it's not censorship.
7 -
All because the devs follow through with some of their promises doesn't excuse them from breaking their word with the console player base.
6 -
Yup, basically ANYTHING that has to do with VFX drops the frame rate.
8 -
I've been playing on console since launch and it's just getting worse
Frame rate as killer is garbage
6 -
I hope not why I'm making the swutch to ps5 I don't know how much more my ps4 can take.
2 -
I'll be making the switch eventually, just not at launch. My ps4 would need to die for me to get a ps5 right away. With the exception of DBD I have no issues with my ps4 so I'm in no rush to spend $500+.
1 -
Hope so too. Last two patches have really hurt performance for me, and i see from the various posts quite a few others as well.
4 -
With how much updates have hurt rather than helped I'm not looking forward to this next one coming up. I really hope it doesn't add more issues to the console list.
