The Continued Ignorance of Performance Issues Continues to Hamper Player Fun

Update: Crows now cause me immense lag. Gonna start bringing calm spirit.

Crash number 12, this time on lerys as Freddy
5 -
Now this one doesn't surprise me both Lerys and Freddy have always been very laggy on console, at least in my experience.
5 -
Happen to me as well when playing demo, can't confirm as a surv because i never face demogorgons for some reason.
3 -
Console in general has had serious issues for awhile now. Long as i can remember. The general fps drops have always been an issue, they got worse with 5.0, way worse, but they were tgere before that.
The crashes on the otherhand...thats new.
6 -
Yup. Every killer ive played has frames drop hard when using power, ive even had it happen when someone stepped on a trap across the map. Even just a basic attack can give drops. Lord help you if they have dead hard. The game loses its mind
6 -
It has to be something with their servers right? Its so universal i dont know what else could be causing it
1 -
Game optimisation, nothing lag related at least FPS wise, their servers definetly sucks ass tho with how often you can have the game deny you a grab or have hits not connecting or connecting when they shouldnt.
8 -
Update : Getting hit inside lockers by nurses. And i mean i was in there for a full second when she hit and i slammed through the doors.
3 -
The game was working good enough for me until recently.
Never experienced stuttering and short freezes like this before while the ping is fine.
4 -
Ok, fair point. What does optimization even mean exactly? I dont even know.
0 -
Yea Legion in particular is punishing as it freezes when you go to hit and if you miss you totally lose the power and get stunned :')
5 -
Yup, even worse on ps4 with how easily you can get spun as well.
6 -
Optimisation is about making sure your code/engine works efficiently with varying types of hardware mainly cpu's and graphic cards. Bad optimisation can be the reason why an old looking game runs like ass on a $2000 gaming PC but runs okay on a $300 simply because the old cpu runs the game better by sheer random luck.
On a PC optimisation can be a bigger issue because there are so many different kinds of hardware you need to test your engine on and so many combinations. There is much less of an excuse on consoles because you know it's the same hardware across the board hence why consoles can always punch up for their lesser specs when it comes to game performance because companies are able to stretch the hardware because it's specifically made to utilize it.
Edit: as people are discussing the pain of playing killer on console I made a thread earlier with my experience https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/261136/heads-up-to-the-killers-on-console
9 -
Yeah idk, its been a problem for a long time, though the problem seemed to shift around PH.
Before PH it seemed like everytime a new daily was qued my game would get laggy af. If i shut it down and brought it back up it would be fine. Could have been a coincedence with the daily though.
Then around PH id get drops at a lot of status effect changes, like applying sloppy for example.
Now, its that but cranked to 15

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation
4 -
Yup, its bad on him

Hey all,
Due to recent circumstances, I find myself uninterested in continuing my DBD experience both on the Forums, and on the live game.
As such, I'l be quitting the Forums for the foreseeable future. It's evident I'll get myself banned if I don't and I doubt I need to give people excuses to do so, at this point. Don't ask why I was jailed, I don't think I can tell you and some of you can probably guess.
I hope you all keep the thread going in my absence, this issue remains near and dear to me, I may upload some final clips.
Love you guys,
Pulsar

Sorry to hear that. 😥 From what I've seen, you seem to be a very level-headed, objective person who understands balance issues facing the game from playing both roles in it, as well as those from a performance end. What you and so many other console players have gone through is inexcusable at this point, and the fact you feel like you can't play a game you clearly are invested in is a complete failure on the part of game design and the implementation of it.
I hope the issues with the game eventually get resolved, before console players throw their hands up and give up (I've dodged them being on a PS5, but I have friends on the PS4 who are seriously considering abandoning the game entirely). Stay well, and hope you're back soon.
17 -
I saulte your efforts sir ! You are a hero I hope I can keep touch with you via your twitch hate to loose another good friend 🐷💕
9 -
I hope that when you come back the game would be in a better place then it is now and that bhvr will put more effort in updating the game.
Have the best of luck dude.
10 -
This is such a bummer to see. It sucks to see you go, really sucks to lose such a strong fighter for console. As long as we continue to have issues I'll keep the post going because it should stay alive for as long as they continue to avoid optimization.
13 -
Its sad to see you go Pulsar,
Hope you'll be back soon and that DBD will be in a better place if and when you return.
Take care and be safe :)

Unfortunately Pulsar and I saw this coming. If the planned auto ban feature didn't get him soon enough, the forums would. But even though he has been forced to retire, hopefully this post can keep on going. With thousands of views and over 60 pages, we can't let it die. Performance keeps regressing with every new chapter that is released.
While Pulsar may be gone for the moment, it is important now more than ever that we as a community stress the importance of how this is a universal issue that breaks gameplay. While I am not Pulsar, nor will I ever be him, I hope to become more active in the forums, especially relating to these optimization issues. As a real life friend of Pulsar I feel obligated to continue posting about these ongoing problems that lie before us. He was obviously very passionate about this game. While I may have less than 20 posts, I have been playing dbd for several years now and hope to express my interest for this game through the forums. I have always left the posting to Pulsar as he was more vocal when it came to highlighting issues we both shared. Now that he is gone, at least for now, I hope to give the forums a more heartfelt try.
Because we no longer have a Pulsar, its important to make it clear that console dbd is essentially unplayable. When this forum post inevitably gets taken down, I have faith that more posts of this same kind will pop up. As for the time being, I'll keep doing my part and posting a minimum of three videos highlighting freezing and fps drops every couple days. What Pulsar started cannot be understated. He brought many console fans that suffered from the same issues together in the same place. While his presence in the forums will be missed, we must press on and continue the fight for optimization.
R.I.P Pulsar

Goodbye, Pulsar. You helped bring this massive issue to light, and you will be missed.
Fear not, me as well as other forum-goers will not let this thread die.
20 -
Thank you for continuing to post videos of your experience with the game. It's definitely hard for others to argue our experience when visual proof is shown.
9 -
Hate to see ya go you've been the driving force behind our little movement here.
We'll keep up the good work!
14 -
is there a way to talk to him because I don’t want to discuss bans
5 -
To quote the all mighty Darkseid
We will stop at nothing to posses it
9 -
If you go to his profile he gave couple ways to contact him through Twitch and Xbox.
3 -
Sad to see you go man you're a great forum user. Thank you for making this thread and I hope you'll come back eventually or at least enjoy your time away from DbD. Best of luck to ya!
15 -
Thank you.
The Forums and DBD have been a large part of my life for two years now. I'm aiming to significantly reduce my presence on both. I won't be gone completely from the Forums, but I may only comment once every few days for a while, then drop out entirely.
Same thing with the game, a few games here and there until I drop out fully.
The game has been negatively trending for some time, and I've been struggling to stay unbiased and continue my support for it.
19 -
I am sorry to read this, my friend. Though not for the same reasons, I understand how it is to be frustrated with DBD.
I hope you enjoy your break, and somehow find a reason to return to the game.
We will be waiting for you, my friend.
17 -
Damn, sad to see ya taking a break. Gonna miss you buddy.
And by the way, thanks for keeping that list going back in december. Didn't really have the ability to tha k ya then, but I do now.
Hope you come back to a much smoother dbd experience.

I cant believe they actually want to add ray tracing. RT plus this game will make nasa computers crumble to their knees
5 -
Yeah I can't see that going wrong at all. Nope, no sir.

Round four of uploading clips. The first two clips I am not surprised by at this point. The game behaves like this at a constant. What bamboozled me was the third survivor clip. I lagged ten feet forward into the killer only for him to miss me. dead hard lagged the game further. I don't have much more to say. Welcome to the console experience
17 -
Yeah, those are pretty horrible. Not sure how people can make posts saying Xbox 1 and PS4 are fine after seeing the multitude of clips with those exact issues. I get freezes like that on my PC as well. It actually seems worse since the 5.0.1 update, though I'm not sure they really did anything to fix it overall except for an adjustment to Nemesis, so I'm not sure why.
I have decided to not put any more money into this game until it runs good. I have not bought a dlc since Blight. I unlocked Twins, Trickster and their survivors with shards. If it's licensed, I will have to do without it. No more cosmetics. I buy the rift only with the auric cells I earn from it. I know a lot of people that have bringing up these concerns were excited about RE and bought it, but I wish they wouldn't have. The only way we will get them to make this top priority is to stop giving them money for a product that doesn't work well on systems they state it works for.

Survivor video is how my matches have been on ps4. Killer goes to use power I get a freeze, killer uses power I get a freeze, I get in killers red stain another freeze, killer swings I freeze... And when those freezes turn you around it's super frustrating. I had match on Lery's against a Wraith and was turned into him when I had a freeze after he uncloaked, I was trying to run straight so there was no reason for me to turn back into him.
9 -
Goodness gracious those are pretty terrible. Painful to watch, had to have been worse to play through.
5 -
The first two annoyed me sure. The survivor clip I actually experienced an hour or so prior to posting the clips. All I could do was laugh at how far I lagged forward and how even the killer was disoriented as well.
7 -
ps4 seems to be worse off at least compared to my experiences. the main triggers I have are exhaustion perks, certain killers using their power, and of course the good old fashioned sloppy butcher. That survivor clip was probably the first time I was teleported a significant distance. I may lose distance or get turned around from time to time. Never ever have I been thrust 10 feet into the killers face. It was certainly an out of body experience
4 -
I can't play killer on console. It's like playing a video game on a flip book. Absolute dog #########. The devs should be embarrassed. Fix your ######### game already.
8 -
Before the RE chapter I wasn't thrown around from freezes like I am now. Also brought in more triggers, like before I wasn't getting them when killer would wind up/aim power and only certain killers when they would actually use their power on me. Before this chapter I wasn't getting a freeze when killer would use basic attack or I stepped in/out of their red stain. It's made the old triggers (sloppy, perk icons/status effects, entering night shroud, etc) freeze harder while adding in new triggers to make game a PowerPoint presentation from freezes.
6 -
I'll believe it when I see it.
5 -
After playing a couple games following the last update, I said, "Nope." And haven't played since. I'm on PS4 Pro, it was the first time I experienced such severe lag. I'm sorry to hear others have been struggling for much longer. I was playing dbd nearly everyday too... for years. I get the itch to play but knowing I'll be hitching every time I attack or get attacked turns me off completely.
9 -
I really hope we'll get literally any form of game performance improvement within the next week or so. I just want to finish the dang Rift before it ends for that Bill outfit, but it feels generous to even pretend that DbD is playable right now (20 tiers to go, but it feels more like 20 tears with how awful it is).
I'm already planning to just skip the 5th Anniversary Event if things are still this bad by the end of June.
They talked about their "4 Pillars" during the 5th year livestream, but I don't think they actually have 4 of them.
Game Health is not a pillar; it's the foundation upon which the other pillars stand.
15 -
I was just telling people what I've heard, as I specified. Apparently, according to a lot of people in this thread, it has not in fact helped.
4 -
Or take a break AFTER the event, so you can stock up on cakes for when you return. But I can see why you want to skip the event.
Personally I just gave up that there is any sort of optimisation. I just play for the rift xp and the BP and then just move on to the next round. We'll see when and if they ever make this game better on console.
3 -
That last line is perfect.
I have a feeling that if they don't fix the performance issues before the event starts that will be last straw for decent portion of the player base.
