Otzdarva Started a Change.Org Petition for Console Players
Otz started a petition for Behaviour to add an optional way for console players to downgrade their visual quality so the game can run smoother. If you're interested in signing, here it is:
EDIT:
If you have any opinions on the idea, feel free to share.

I think the petition is a good idea. Whether or not the solution he proposes (an optional quality setting) is something Behaviour is willing to do is another question entirely, but drawing attention to the issue can only be a good thing.
10 -
Agreed. I caught the end of his answer in the chat, but someone said something similar and he said Behaviour already added that option for (I think he said Switch??). I honestly don't know why they wouldn't do it, but you're right, drawing attention to it helps if nothing else.

Change.org is a meme.

Oh my goodness, thank you

Unfortunately, downgrading the graphics on the Switch hasn't helped the game run smoother at all.
My friend bought and installed the game on the Switch right after RE was released. It ran fine. Every update since has worsened the performance, including the one that has made DbD look like a PS2 game.
I'm pretty sure DbD has memory leaks. When I'm playing the game on Switch or PS4, after I play a bunch of matches the game starts freezing up when the match ends and goes to the stats screen. The fans also get louder and louder on my PS4 Pro. The fans are pretty much constantly running loud when I play DbD these days; they aren't audible at all for any other game. It's either an issue with a memory leak or their visual effects are poorly implemented, because their fog/smoke effects have always caused the PS4 fans to go nuts. It's just gotten so, so much worse lately.
There's also the problem of them loading all their killer and survivor assets into every match, which probably hurts performance more than anything.
I'm not knocking the idea of being able to choose the visual quality. Maybe it would help.
I wish it had helped on the Switch. Unfortunately, BHVR disabled the Switch's function of recording video (which also doesn't seem to have improved performance), so I can't show just how bad it is.

Otz is such a nice guy. I love that he actually cares, or cares about his image enough to pretend to care. Most pc content creators from other games aren't like that. He is cut from finer cloth.
8 -
Ah, that's unfortunate.
I have a PS4, and my fan only runs when I first turn on the game if I don't press X. After that, no fan, but I've been getting lots of frame drops during skill checks, unhooking, vaulting, and dead hard. Like with you, it seems to worsen if I keep playing.
Like you said, maybe it would work better on PS4 and X-Box than it did Switch. I hope so.
1 -
Devs needs to fix the xbox map lighting, it is very dark, can't see much on indoor maps.
4 -
Yeah, it used to be only on the "press x" screen and the offerings screen. Then the Rift/Tome area was added, and that was also awful. Then the problem spread to the campfire menu/lobby screens and super-foggy maps. And now the fans just run most of the time.
It went a couple years being only the "press x" and offerings screens. I thought it was annoying then, but boy do I miss those times. And I worry BHVR doesn't understand what a big problem this actually is. If the console is overheating, that 1. Hurts performance, and 2. Destroys the hardware. But they have ignored reports about the loud fans for years.
4 -
Check to see if you're getting a dust blockage (inside the machine, too). Since DBD makes fans run harder anyway, any blockage would make it worse. I hope it's something simple like that, because I don't get why your pro would have such a harder time than my regular PS4. That's got to be so annoying for you. Either way, I get your point. DBD causes the console systems to run harder regardless of if the state of the fan. Optimization has gotten noticeably worse for me since Nemesis (not as bad as it was, but still worse than it used to be).

Brightening up the tv screen a little bit helps somewhat. It is kinda dark on ps4 too. Deep wound combined with dark maps is like a blackout for me lol.
1 -
I actually did open the PS4 Pro up and clean it. I used an air can and q-tips, and I got out as much dust as I could (there was barely any in there). No change.
The fans aren't audible with any other game. I was playing Dying Light yesterday, huge city world, it was night and raining and lightning and I was throwing fireworks and shooting zombies with lasers setting them on fire... all kinds of graphical craziness was going on with 20+ zombies on my tail, and the fans were silent. iirc, the Pro can run games in 4k, it's no slacker. This is a DbD issue, through and through.
11 -
Yeah that's so strange. My regular PS4 has problems, but not like that. That sucks. I'm sorry. It makes the game unplayable. I've had to turn it off because of all the dropped frames, but if I had all of that I'd want to throw it out the window lol

quick reminder. don't give money to change.org
4 -
Why? Is it better to give it to BHVR's for cringey cosmetics that make the world seem like an anime?
3 -
no one cares for Console players
this game was built for PC only with developers that dont know how to code a game
reason why we still have bugs since 2016.
Can always go for a New Gen console, i hear they are doing fine.

While it's nice to have graphic settings it will only be a band aid fix to the performance issues. I think they should add the option but not use it as opportunity to push aside actually fixing the performance issues in the game.
5 -
God bless Otz for trying to help us console plebs.
7 -
Fair point.

The loud fans suck, but I did fix the framerate issue by getting an external SSD, so at least it runs smoothly. The Switch version runs silently but with low FPS, frame drops, and PS2 graphics. The Switch is so much worse: survivor is difficult and killer is unplayable.
I have no hope for the Switch version; my friend only got it because PC cross-progression was supposed to already be live by now. Once that goes live we'll buy it on Steam and only use the Switch for travel.
2 -
because change.org just takes the money and doesn't actually use it in favor of whatever the petition is.
also, don't put words in people's mouth
7 -
Buy a ps5 and get on with it. If I kept the same pc for 5 years it would also get old. I wouldn't expect gaming companies to update the game just for me. Unpopular opinion
0 -
And wrong opinion since most games even much more demanding ones work perfectly well on last gen.
If you sell a game on certain platform it should work. Period.
Releasing dbd on swith is the most disgusting thing they ever did imo. If they couldn't make it work well enough they shouldn't have released it in the first place.
I feel sorry for people playing on switch.
12 -
I agree, them releasing the game on Switch ticks me off. People paid money for this, and iirc the game is for some reason more expensive on the Switch. There are definitely fewer sales on the Switch. Pay extra for a worse experience.
3 -
While people want to make the points about responsible of developers with their game, there are people always want to show off what they had.
For the people just say something likes that:
- Just buy a PC -> I had the game on steam, can you transform my progression (at least 2k hours) to PC?
- Just buy a PS5 (or current gen console) -> isn't it always out of stock? Why do I have to spend over $500 for a $30 game again? Why should I buy it when mods confirmed they continue support last gen?
13 -
You buying?
12 -
I expect companies to make their games work properly on the devices it's sold on.
but hey, I will take the ps5 you seem to have extra. or is so easily affordable that telling people to buy one doesn't come off as privileged to you...
11 -
there's a megathread pulsar made for this a while ago, might want to post this there.
1 -
It's already been shared in there a couple times.

Business 101 for Otz and everyone else who is saying “why hasn’t this happened yet?”
There isn’t any profit to be made off of this change, only intense lengthy labor costs. That’s the reason this change has not happened nor will it happen until resources become more easily available or technology has a much bigger advancement.
Until then it’s just an expensive project.
0 -
And like all Change.org pensions, nothing will come of it.
4 -
You spend money to make money. Games die all the time. If they want to keep making money, then they have to have a product worth the time and money of those who play it.
4 -
Exactly this. Just as restarting every 3-5 matches is a bandaid to cover over the real problems. If we get this option, yay! But in the end it's just another quickie "fix" instead of going into the heart of the matter for a much more effective & far-reaching solution, which unfortunately takes time as well as effort.
6 -
Agreed. It's not a pass to fixing the issue, but it's still needed.
2 -
ah yes the typical “buy a ps5” comment. Dude have you realized how much trouble it is to get your hands on one? Whenever there is stock, it’s literally gone in ######### seconds. And I rather not buy one for like $800 from a scalper thank you very much.
11 -
Not if the incentive isn’t high enough. People are spending money regardless, hell, the last chapter (arguably the worst patch drop in DBD history) saw the highest player count on Steam ever. I’m more than certain their analyst have worked out the numbers where the cost outweigh the potential benefits. Sorry to have to be the one to break it to you.
0 -
"Sorry to have to be the one to break it to you." Why say something like that? Patronizing me adds nothing.
Many console players have stopped playing (and therefore stopped buying DLCs) because of this issue. What the stats are on that, I wish I knew. And the mega threads of posts complaining about optimization issues proves how big of an issue this is.
Companies are not immune to poor choices. They go under. Games die. Investors make mistakes. So do analysts and developers. If this issue is not important to Behaviour, then quite simply, they're wrong.

I understand how you feel, I’ve been asking for console optimization since it launched on consoles back in 2017. My point remains, the cost is greater than the income and this will not happen until the income begins to greatly exceed the cost. They have all the data, they’re analyst know it’s not an investment worth making at this point in time. That’s just how the world works, at the end of the day they are a business just like other game industries.
1 -
This is true unfortunately. Companies will get away with everything they can and only do what is neccessary once in a while.
Edit: Tho I disagree that they would do anything for us if they earned even more profit. They wouldn't.
0 -
I don't think Otz really understands what the issue is, besides the frame drops.
This is an ongoing issue for years now, they promised optimisation 2 years ago. They never delivered. Getting us console players low quality will not fix anything, maybe make the game slightly better, but since the foundation of the game is bad, it would take 2/3 patches to break that as well again.
0 -
Its never been as bad as it is now though. Never. I mean the game literally freezes when someone uses dead hard.
3 -
It should include controller also, it is too uncomfortable

I've signed it.
Even if I'm sure things change with concret action not petition

Some of us are poor lol

Tell me where to find one and I'll go get one🙂
Retailer not e-bay

UPDATE:
The petition has about 21.5k signatures with a goal of 25k. If you haven't signed it yet and are interested, the link is in the original post.

There is zero point.
0 -
I've signed. But sadly, when it comes to gaming at least, i've never seen change.org change anything.
1 -
Console doesn't need a graphical downgrade it needs optimization. You don't optimize by making it look worse.
0 -
21.5k people feel differently. If they want to sign it, they can. How effective it will be is unknown, but if it makes them feel better, then have at it. Have I signed it? No. I also don't think it will do much good, but I'm not omniscient. I could be wrong.
