How To Make Breakable Walls An Actually Interesting Mechanic
Of course, this will require a few placement adjustments and a bit of map rebalancing-- especially on Dead Dawg-- to make it feel more meaningful.
Simple: what everyone was saying before, survivors should build them, but there's a catch.
Survivors have to use broken pallets in order to make breakable walls. Let's call these resources "Scraps."
Survivors can do a quick 10 second interaction in order to pick up these scraps from a broken pallet. While carrying scraps, survivors can't carry any of their other items.
Bringing scraps to a door location (so now there's much more flexibility on where walls can be set up) will prompt survivors to complete a 15 second interaction to build the wall.
If a survivor does not complete the interaction, the wall will fall apart over a period of 3 seconds. If a killer attacks through a wall that a survivor is in the process of building, they will inflict the Deep Wound status on the survivor.
This allows the survivors to gain something back from what they've lost. Pallet for wall. It uses quite a bit of time between scrap collection a building but can yield a notable effect if the killer needs to catch someone quickly. It also punishes survivors for mistiming the wall building, as a killer can instantly swing through one that's unfinished and cause that survivor to use more time mending.

I think these ideas are good for adding something interactive for survivors to do and rn breakable walls suck

I like the breakable vaults idea! However, I still do think that breakable walls shouldn't just be set up from the get-go (or at least not all of them). My thoughts are that 1 broken pallet can maybe create a vault while two can make a wall?

Considering that most breakable walls are effectively god pallets, I think survivors being able to renew them is a terrible idea.

The don't renew them, there would be no breakable walls at the start.
Also it would take quite a bit of time to gather the resources and build them up.

This would probably become a new survivor perk, or a couple of perks.
Upcyle - When a pallet you dropped is destroyed by the killer, gain a token. Press and hold the secondary action button at a doorway to build a breakable wall, building takes 18/16/14 seconds and consumes a token.
Boon: Fortification - Interact with a Dull Totem to bless it with this perks effect. While the Boon Totem stands, every time you vault in a chase, all breakable walls or dropped pallets within 16/20/24 meters are held in place for 12 seconds and cannot be broken by the killer.

I can 100% see BHVR making it a perk instead of just giving the survivors the interaction. However, I'm not a fan of making things that would be more interesting as base game mechanics into perks. Also, it wouldn't address the issue of killers having to waste time trying to get around things that largely benefit the survivors.

Well, I feel like with careful planning as well as more freedom of placement (since they would be able to place them in any doorway now) would make them pretty useful.

Of course it can, It only needs careful planning. But Im not sure if the devs can do that LoL.
