Will DBD be banned from Steam due to the NFTs?
Comments
-
Nope, they are banning games that directly are responsible for the creation of NFT's and only give access to content through those NFT's.
In both cases, DBD doesnt do this.
2 -
According to the DBD twitter, though, they are responsible for the creation of NFTs. They actively collaborated on the project, after all.

Exactly. If they’re going to ban one of the largest games on Steam, then smaller games will be much more wary

According to the DBD twitter, they were legally obligated to aid Park Ave in their creation of NFTs through Boss Protocol. The nuance does matter, it depends on where Steam draws the line.
BVHR themselves didn't make NFTs, DBD doesn't contain any NFTs, if the ban is purely about not wanting NFT content on Steam then DBD is in the clear. If they want to take a harder stance to really make the point, DBD would be a great place to make that example.

I think it's more like you own the "original" artwork and not just a copy. Kind of like if you owned an original print of a photograph instead of a photocopy that looks identical to the original.
It's a bit like how people pay ridiculous prices for original paintings or manuscripts of books even though as a practical matter a replication looks exactly the same. They just want to be able to brag about how they "own the original". I don't see the appeal personally but then again I'm not an art collector. 🤷♂️

Exactly. There is no money to make for BHVR if steam drops the game and the customers would be rightfully furious and the game would be basically dead. Nobody in his right mind (besides addicted persons) would buy all the stuff again on EPIC.

I laugh at these content creators being so principled about the environment because my bet is this won't be the last killer BHVR does this NFT partnership with. If another well-known killer gets added under the same circumstances, these streamers won't put principles before content (they never do), suddenly the outrage would stop and they would get on board.

This is where the game needs to be where your account can travel platforms. So if it does get banned you can then open and play on a x box , switch or PS

There's some speculation that Tome 10 which may or may not be licensed (if you know you know) is happening because the supposed license holders are also doing NFTs (in fact, they recently tweeted about it) so this fiasco could now be affected previously established licenses too.

Legally obligated -by a contract they signed, willingly-.

Valve/Steam has a few clear indications of what should not be published including:
-Content you don't own or have adequate rights to
-Applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs
Would anyone argue that BHVR does not have the right to the Hellraiser license? Would anyone argue that their technology is built on *exchanging* crypto or NFTs?

I actually own a PS4 so I'll definitely give that game a look!

Right, but we don't currently know if the decision to make the NFTs was made during that contract signing, or afterwards. Park Ave have the right to do it at any time, or so I'm given to understand.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's likely this NFT thing was part of the license agreement and whoever at BHVR signed it just didn't think it was a problem, and that in itself is what BHVR did wrong, but it's relevant to both the general outrage and the topic as to whether they cross Steam's new rules that they didn't create this, call for it to be made, or integrate it into the game; they just had to help due to the license agreement.

So I guess this clears up the original question- its worded in a way that means Valve's current ruling will not affect it. If however Valve decides to crackdown on loopholes and shut it down, DBD is a good game to make an example out of.
Do not let this blind or mislead you however. BHVR knew for months that they were making NFT content, betraying the fanbase and even their own developers. They provided the goods to Boss Protocol and Park Avenue Media knowing that this NFT situation would happen and are now claiming liable deniabilty. Arguably most offensive however, they lied to the community about the issue. They said they were not going to engage in NFTs or dealing with them, then turn around and proudly announce their partnership with a shady NFT company. This is akin to the impeachment of US President Clinton- it was not necessarily the scandalous incident that ruined him, but the fact that he lied about it. Do not let this ruin the game for good- speak up and boycott Hellraiser as well as Hour of the Witch until the matter is resolved.

If it was a decision made afterwards then there's two scenarios:
A) BHVR was under no obligation to endorse Boss Protocol
or
B) Their contract had a 'you must support whatever we do' stipulation
Case A makes them culpable, case B makes them morons. There's no scenario where BHVR comes out okay.

I second Bloodborne, absolute masterpiece.
Not perfect, but of course no game is.

I mean, yeah. This isn't a defence of BHVR, it's just important to criticise them for what actually happened, y'know?

Valve won't ban DBD
0 -
Yeah, but mostly in the sense that they gave the assets to Boss Protocol and their tweet prior to that heavily hinted at the license holders of Hellraisers wanting to use the DBD assets to create NFT's.
So it's not directly BHVR and DBD creating the NFT's, they are (partially) responsible, but didnt create it. Let alone that they could also be contractually obligated to not shift the blame to the license holders. Either way, that doesnt endanger DBD in any single way.

God I hope so

Your comment is misleading and clickbait at best. BHVR didn't create the NFT, and they never tweeted that they were selling it. BHVR got the license to use Pinhead, the license owner got rights to the model to do with what they want, the license owner made it an NFT. Why is anyone blaming BHVR? Also, why is there such an uproar over NFT's and not other crypto currencies who's energy consumption is greater (Bitcoin)? If you want to be up in arms over NFTs, that's fine, but blame the creator of the NFT and not the artists whos work is being used for means they didn't intend for.
1 -
So the uproar about BHVR is that some people feel angered or betrayed by them about their involvement about NFTs, not necessarily that they indirectly made them. I also stated that this situation is regardless of how people feel about NFTs (personally I hate them and all forms of crypto), but the issue at hand here is Steam's new policy on NFTs and crypto. As it currently stands, DBD is not in violation of their rules but if Steam decides to make a more stern ruling then the game is likely to be removed. This is also shown to be on BHVR's radar, as the DBD and Epic Games Twitter accounts have had some interaction around the time people were freaking out about them. Why change launchers if there wasn't a potential issue?
Regardless, this thread is old, while the issue is still very much valid and important we shouldn't keep dredging it up.

Logically speaking, shouldn't Steam also be banned from Steam? 🧐
1 -
I really would kinda hope so the Devs would kinda deserve it whit there many Bugs, Balancing Faults and there hate on Killer Mains
Still hope it wouldnt happend because i really like playing the Game even when Killer alte unplayable

Dbd has no nfts
0 -
why? is Steam built on, or around NFTs?
0 -
Well, steam negatively impacts the environment to a much larger degree than any of the NFTs they ban from their platform. For the sake of consistency I think they should disband and liquidate their assets.

I don't understand why everyone is so butthurt over NFT's in the first place. Its way worse for society to smoke weed all day and play DBD than mining whatever NFT's people pretend put a new hole in the Ozone layer (which recently had its biggest hole in history close like 3 weeks ago)

I say way to go BHVR, don't take ######### from steam if they gonna create unnecessary drama. All the fans bitching about NFT's should take a raincheck and do some research on climate change and how at risk we really are. If you want to get climate change, push sanctions on China.
