Elevators would make DBD more fun let me explain...
So you know how In horror movies the final girl Is getting chased and she runs Into an elevator to get away, or how the Killer randomly pops out of one and gets one of the survivors? Why can't dbd have that with like a mall or hospital map. It would make chases so much fun and it would be a new mechanic for maps. It Is so simple hsh survive had one it was just an alternative way to escape the killer or surprise a survivor. DBD really needs to start being more creative. An elevator mechanic is so simple yet fun its been 6 years switch it up please.

Would be brilliant tbh, opening a door to find a killer there.

It would add so much to a match I wish dbd devs would watch more scary movies and take notes this game could be 10x more fun
1 -
That "wrong floor" scene from Godzilla springs to mind.
2 -
I can see that being funny.
3 -
or terrifying lol especially If killers lost their terror radius In them
2 -
I just can't see it being fun, in every chase an elevator becomes a free reusable pallet / window that buys even more time in theory
4 -
I'm 99% revving in the destination!
0 -
It would only be active every like minute or something and it would be useful to killers too getting the jump or getting distance it could be really fun on both sides
3 -
Let me guess - you hated the snowmen too.
4 -
So its a recharging god pallet / window, still not finding it fun tbh
1 -
Maybe you hate fun lol
2 -
Well since I played a killer who didn't have an easy way to deal with them, yes, let me guess you thought they were balanced even though there are plenty examples of them not being balanced.
4 -
See you see the potential! It would be fun

I didn´t care - i liked them. Ther were funny.
I am not as competitive. I played as surv and as killer. And i always let survs get their cosmetics.
I can´t get that some people are so extremely competitve that they were angry for these few days the snowmen were in the game. As they don´t have anything than being a grade 1 master in this game.

Oh wait, I can't reach survivors once they get in to the elevator? that's not fun.
It should take like bunch of seconds to activate, and then on top of it elevator needs to be there, and elevator itself should be slow enough to catch up as long as killer guess destination right.
And then I wonder who gonna use unreliable tool like this.
It has nothing to do with competence, it's all about fairness.
They looks funny but it invade basic gameplay and makes game unplayable for killers by giving unfair advantage to survivors, definitely not a good event.

This Is about elevators being a fun mechanic If you wanna talk about the snowman event go create your own discussion :)
0 -
You should've said that to someone who brought snowmen, I suppose.
And then why not reply to the part I was talking about elevators, I don't see your point.
1 -
So then what does that have to do with the topic of this thread, which is about a permenant addition to the game, and could make killer very frustrating?

An elevator mechanic would be fun on both sides. Killers could surprise survivors or cut them off in chase or get to an exit gate faster. Survivors would be able to get upstairs quickerextend a chase etc. It would be so fun it was fun In hsh survive most horror games have them killer mains just kinda hate fun you guys complain about literally everything. Also It an aesthetic and horror slasher movie thing It Is almost all chase scenes In horror dbd needs to feel more like a horror game.

As a short time gimmick they are fun, but as a thing to stay they aren't that fun to play with / against
Its a free hit against most killers with nothing they can do about it, with the worst being the twins, it put victor in cooldown to push someone out of a snowman so it was basically what lockers used to be like with victor
Some killers like bubba and clown don't mind it but it was a slog for so many other killers it just wasn't fun for the other side
1 -
How fun do you find godpallets while playing killer, more specifically a killer that has to deal with them
3 -
why don't you make a snowman discussion and talk about it there
0 -
I would just break it lol

I think the idea is interesting. Honestly, this game needs a good refresher to the core gameplay outside of something like boons and the typical new killers and perks. It's even got me thinking about other changes to maps I may make a post about.
1 -
Didn't say how do you deal with them, I said how much fun is it
2 -
like its a game mechanic why are you so negative

Please do Id like to see what you think!

Thanks, I'd post it here but I don't want to hijack this post. I actually already posted it, then tried to edit a spelling error after it was posted only for it to throw a bunch of errors then it vanished off the forum page. I may have broken it somehow lmao. Gonna wait a bit and see if it re-appears or something before trying to re-post it

Fine guess ill just say it directly as it is then. It sounds like a boring one sided mechanic that will only exist to be abused by the survivors and rarely if ever useful to killers, and its likely that at most ~3 killers have anything they could to about it so its just a nerf to 24 killers in the game. Overall it just sounds like something that dbd doesn't need, it doesn't improve gameplay, it doesn't improve problems, it just creates new problems and makes the game less interesting. I have played home sweet home survive which was basically dbd with elevators instead of windows. It was extremely boring and always either overtuned or useless. That problem already exists in dbd where there is an extremely polorazing option every which refreshes which is windows, to add a second form of infinite resources to the game and make them even strong just seems like a bad addition.
Sure fun horror idea to have elevators but this just isn't the game for them

I can see how this could be fun if implemented well. It's true this game can get pretty stale, since pallets and windows are the only main interactable gameplay elements for both sides.
But you lost me when turning this into a us vs them again. How many of you weirdos that act like all people that main one side think the exact same swarm this freaking forum? No, killer mains don't hate fun, but some of them will voice their concerns about an idea if they fear that it could be unfun or unfair. People want the game to be fair for both sides.
Even people with small brains should be able to understand this.

maybe you are just a bad killer If you can't see the potential would be super useful In strategic plays getting to and from close gens cutting of a survivor In chase sneaking up on survivors etc you literally complain about everything lol
0 -
Glad we both agree that It could be fun for both sides!
0 -
You can ad hominem all you want, still would be extremely survivor sided and a bad overall addition
I have 2500 hours in this game I understand it completely and I can with 100% certainty tell you that it would either be useless like Z wall windows, or it would be annoying, broken, and polarizing

Im kinda psychic so I know its coming you are gonna love It

To try and return to topic. I can see both sides of the argument. Dbd is a game on such a fine balancing pole that one bad mechanic change can have major effects across the board, especially something that changes the flow of chases on some maps. Elevators do sound cool to me, and maybe in some way could be added in a fashion that works. But they'd also be extremely annoying. Unfortunately, DBD is less of a fun-time horror game (unless you're playing low ranks or with friends) and more of a competitive chasing simulator? Don't get me wrong. I WANT there to be more horror aspects, but something just sounding scary unfortunately is not case enough to get it in.
That said, I'm still not against the idea completely. I'll list some issues and benefits perhaps for them being in.
The first most being, escaping the killer. If there is not a nearby alternative route that the killer can take to catch up to the elevator then it can easily be abused to end a chase early. (You'd also need a cooldown on the elevator so survivors can't just spam going up and down, or it'd have to run on its own timer, which would make it harder to abuse, but also harder to use in a chase.)
But there can be uses as well, lets say a survivor tries to avoid you completely with it by running straight too it from their gen. Well then you just don't chase them. Instead take advantage of the fact they now have to wait to arrive at the location, then wait on a CD for the elevator to be used again, then wait to ride back up to get back to their gen. By then if you kicked it, they'll lose a bit of progress, and if you head the elevator off you can potentially resume chase (A Cooldown on the elevator also means it can't be abused back to back)
Alternatively, you can try to mind game if you think a survivor is running for an elevator that you expect them to take, so you veer off beforehand to head them off and catch them where the elevator will be going, where they'll be trapped in a tiny box with you in front of them, and it's an easy hit.
Then of course as mentioned as a stealth killer you can jump out of one to scare or hit people or jump people as they exit one to come back to their gen or if you see that the elevator is in motion and wait to see if anyone is in it. (It also means you can maybe mind game by sending an empty elevator down towards survivors or killers to throw them off.
Ultimately. I think it's a neat idea, but it'd have to be added very carefully, and likely no more than one maybe two elevators per map that might have one. As they would be the same as a god pallet, that said unlike a pallet that's instant, if the killer is already close to you and they get inside the elevator. You're dead.
1 -
You get It It would just need to be placed In a fair spot for both sides and only two story maps could have them like a mall or hospital.

Indeed, I edited my comment with a few more small points. But comparing it to a god pallet is not wrong in that it is a big damper on a chase, but it is also not the same. To use an elevator you'd already have to have a lead on the killer as you'd need to get inside, hit the button, and let the doors close. If the killer is too close and they get inside with you it's game over. And if they do make the elevator, as long as there is an alternative route up that isn't placed too far from the elevator it'd not completely end a chase depending on the distance.
Or as mentioned with the mind games by sending an empty elevator down (assuming it has the thing over the doors telling you where the elevator is and if it's in motion) if survivors hear your terror radius and see the elevator next to them coming down they may run the other way, or for some stairs leading up to avoid you, only for you to not even be on the elevator and heading down an alternate route to cut them off, etc, etc, etc. I think it can be interesting if done right.
2 -
maybe one day they will actually add new mechanics
0 -
If this was a thing in the game, I could see survivors using them to escape by just hopping in an elevator while in a chase and close the doors on the killer.
2 -
If it was busted yeah but they would have to balance it put it near stairs give it a timer etc make it a tool for both sides to strategically use
3 -
And then, problem is if it is counterable by killer survivors will not use it due to unreliability, but otherwise it's just broken and gives free escape to survivors.
Balancing this is almost impossible.
