How to hotfix the current camping meta

I do not recognize a camping meta in my games.

Furthermore if you read the info about how to report someone you would notice, that camping is not reportable. The devs do not recognize this as a problem.

But in fact there are a lot of killer perks who give incentives to leave the hook. And you get a punishment for staying near the hook even in endgame and even if a survivor is looping the killer near the hook. I think that is more than enough.

Why do some killers camp anyway? I don't know. It is not fun, but lesser skilled killers can secure at least one kill that way.

Oh ok I understand what you're saying now. No I'm not suggesting that the cage warps, I'm suggesting that hooks work like CoA where once you hook them they disappear, but past that it never moves again. Like if a player ran you to the cage, you could in theory camp the cage, but it's such a low amount of times that that will actually happen, that it won't even be a blip on the camping radar compared to what camping is right now.

So here's the order of operations. The killer downs a survivor, he hooks them, and when he hooks them they warp to a different location in cage, and they remain at that location until they unhooked or die. If the killer goes to that location he could camp them, but if he makes it to their cage before the others survivors do it's entirely the other survivors fault because the killer can't see the cage until they get unhooked and it gives the little explosion from unhooking.

What if I'm playing Trapper on Cowshed and there is another survivor trying to loop me around a hook and my 3 gen, while other 2 survivors are on the opposite side of the map, where I have no power?

Clearly it isn't a valid strategy if the devs acknowledged it as a problem in the last developer update (despite failing to actually do anything about it)

It's still a valid strategy as there will be times you need to camp, what they are trying to do is give survivors a chance to save the person on the hook and not have Bubba ready to down everybody with no counter

And i will admit that i play killer 90% of the time and that camping a hook needs to be looked at to at least give survivors a chance to get the save.

What about something a bit similar to Pyramid Head's cages?

If the killer stays within 16 or so metres for a cumulative 20-30 seconds, the hooked survivor teleports to another hook, the aura is hidden to the killer, and the hook timer is paused for a short time. If another survivor is within 16 or so metres then the time does not add up for the killer. This also wouldn't activate when the generators are finished. Maybe make it so the first 5 or so seconds don't add to the timer so the killer has time to leave.

What's wrong with a Blood Warden buff?

They forgot the important thing and did not deactivate the timer slowdown once another survivor enters the area.

Every player with common sense would thing about this.

Simple fix: the cage choses the one position where no one is around: 1 in the cage, 1 chased near the cage, and the other 2 in separate corners to wait for the cage to show up - > 1 free corner

But what if the killer has sth to do in that 20 meters range (kicking gens, totems etc,) or a survivor is nearby and he is chasing him

    This is not that good

Plus that in 5 seconds the killer can't go away 20 meters (I think) but maybe yes

Why would they change it? They like the camping.

Hmmm or TPs to area where there is no players x meters around. That could be a workable fix. As to your other response (phone is acting up and I can't link another response)...Yea that could be true but then the Killer could abuse it by not hitting the chased survivor letting the hook timer keep burning...but I like that idea regardless. At least that's a different suggestion than "How can it be abused". When ever someone suggest the slowing/freezing of the timer....

You can choose to keep chasing him, or go after the other 2, its actually pretty standard good playing in that case. And remember if you get that 2nd survivor, now you're pretty much guaranteed a 4k, because half their team will die on the way out.

Because not changing it, will lose so many players that this game will tank. Since July 20th (aka patch 6.1.0 day) they have gone from 83% positive on steam, to 76%. And that's not just people complaining, that's a lot of people who flat out said that they're not even bothering playing this game anymore until they fix the camping and tunneling. That's the kind of thing that will kill a game outright. And remember, if the survivors aren't there, it doesn't matter how happy the killers are, because there's no one to play against.

The easier solution would be to simply up the hook stage times to match the new 90 sec gen times.

  • Tactrix
    Tactrix Member Posts: 420

I'm not opposed to that, the problem is some killers will be impossible to balance with 90 sec gens no matter what you do, like nurse for example. It's not even a matter of camping with her, 90 seconds on a gen with a killer that blinks and goes through everything is insane. And that speaks more to how broken the nurse is as compared to the time itself.

Nurse is nurse, she plays her own game and doesn't need to camp to dominate games nor did the 90 seconds gen time change anything really for her.

The edit in time would just make it possible to get 3 man out again if they play it properly vs the 2 that is now.

Reasons why this would be an issue:

    • 20 meters is a large radius.
    • 5 seconds is a short amount of time.
    • If I go to kick a generator or snuff a boon, the survivors pretty much get free generator repair speed from something that isnt even my fault.
    • Some maps are designed poorly enough to where you will not have enough time to leave the hooked area without causing the increased generator repair speed (Lery's, RPD, etc), you are rewarding the survivors/punishing killers for poor map design (which to be fair, isnt really that uncommon anyways).

You're right, she doesn't need to, but somehow they always find a way to proxy camp with her anyway.

Anything less than 20 meters and it would be abused, lets say it's 15 meters right, that's just enough time to run up to get an unhook and get downed. At 20 meters it's time to make some decisions.

5 seconds is the difference between a player hanging there and being able to actually live and the killer just hanging out until he's a good deal dead before deciding to take off after it's already been long enough for him to actually use up all his life. It's a basic amount of time to not punish the killer for him looking around, but punish him if he decides to camp.

That's a good thing, it makes your time just as valuable as the survivors. You have to decide "should I go for that boon, or instead maybe I should just go chase a survivor".

RPD has all the time in the world, it's one of the largest maps in the game. And I'm not punishing anyone, BHVR is. They could have made hooks work like cage of atonement at anytime and avoided all of this, but instead they choose to do nothing and make the game wildly killer sided.
