Why are flashlights uncountarable?

Before they got buffed i think you had a small time window when picking up a survivor that even when you were starting straight ahead you could dodge the flashlight's beam. Now the only way you can possibly counter a flashlight is by staring at a wall and even that doesn't work sometimes because they've made blinding from the side easier. Now when you're on maps like rotten fields it can become literally impossible to pick up survivors no matter how much you outplay them. I had such an experience and the only way i could have posibbly won that was by slugging because it was simply not possible to pick up survivors without instantly being blinded. And since they might just remove slugging as a whole that might not be viabile anymore either. I understand that flashlights have a bit of a high skill floor but ar this point flashlights don't really have any non rng counterplay if you know how to use them since they can only really be used when the killer is animation-locked and if there's no walls to look at you have no choice but to accept your fate.
