Let's Solve Solo Q/SWF Issues Once And For All
So for a year or two now, I've been watching all of the feedback on Solo Q and SWF issues, and all of the associated suggestions, gripes, complaints and hand-wringing that comes with it, from both Survivors and Killers.
Honestly, a lot of what has been suggested seems to me to be overly complicated, perhaps difficult to implement from a development standpoint, and probably unlikely to address those perceived problems in any real way and for any significant length of time.
It occurred to me recently that there may be a solution that should be (IMO)entirely doable and would likely have the effect of a permanent and workable solution. Hear me out:
--Separate SWF from Solo Q completely. By that, I mean that upon forming a SWF group of 2 or more, entering the queue with Solo players would be impossible. The SWF option would either be added to the current Custom Game option, or a separate SWF queue would be created, where groups of at least 2 but less than 4 can be filled out via automated matchmaking, whether that is SBMM or completely random. Solo Q at that point becomes entirely 'every Survivor for themselves', with each Survivor being solely responsible for their own game, and each Killer knowing that none of the inherent and frequently match-breaking benefits of a SWF will be in play.
--Those playing Killer are given a choice of joining the Solo Q or the SWF queue. Those who want to play against a team of 4 survivors determined solely by SBMM(LOL!!) are able to do that. Those Killers who would like the added challenge of playing a SWF group that is put together largely by players and is frequently making use of voice comms, etc(or Killers who are just that masochistic to wish it) will also have that option.
I'm aware that this is likely not perfect, but.....thoughts?

Why would a killer choose swfs? In addition being in a swf doesn't make you seal team 6. I play with my brothers sometimes and my guy we aren't great.

If you are going to split SoloQ and SWF entirely, what's going to happen with 3man SWF? Would they receive a bot?🤔

1) You might be surprised at the number of Killers who actually don't mind playing a miked-up SWF. They are not a majority, but there are more of them than you think. They tend to be top tier/'high MMR' types, they're very competitive, and they prefer that mode of play.
2)Yes, I am aware that being in a SWF does not make a team of commandos. And again, my suggestions here are not perfect. But we're also at a point where the larger part of the DBD 'Community' (for lack of a better term) seems to agree that mixing SWF with the regular Solo Q has become problematic to the point of being match-breaking. And, again in my view, none of the solutions mentioned and discussed here to date will have any great or lasting impact on those issues. This would, though not perfectly, and certainly with unintended consequences.

Good question, and I answered it in my original comments. Teams of less than 4 would be filled out using matchmaking, whether that is the current SBMM debacle or some other form.

But you would be taking a random soloQ player (or two) to backfill in a SWF lobby which is what it's already happening. Unless that soloQ player is already queuing to be matched alongside SWF which is unlikely.

Shouldn't be a problem. There are enough people claiming they not only enjoy playing against a coordinated SWF, they are longing to get matched vs. them because solos are no challenge as playing killer is so f****** easy.

Say it with me, folks: you can't punish people for playing with their friends.

And.........that is actually a valid point! A SWF team of 3 people would need to be backfilled somehow, which would make it necessary to allow single players who want a SWF(for whatever reason.....I agree with you that I can't imagine why they would) to be able to enter that queue by their own choice, unless there is another way to work it.

Nobody is suggesting 'punishing' players who would prefer SWF.

Cannot separate the queues, it's way too late for that now and I doubt the playerbase size could support it either.
No killer, including me, would willing go against SWF groups when there's an option to get guaranteed just solos. Can't convince em, can't bribe em, simply won't happen. And then SWF groups never ever get matches again. Even now lots of killers dodge lobbies if they even sniff a SWF, further borking up the matchmaking.
Last time they put out such a numbers in 2019 half of all survs were in at least a two-man group. Since solo queue has grown so delightful over the years, I have to believe more and more groups have formed up, especially after the "killer patch" came out several months back.
Even if this was added to customs, there's no progression or bloodpoins in there either.
The only way left imo is what the devs already are slowly doing. That is get solos more info and possibilities of coordination, with the goal of it not mattering which surv mode is played. Then rebalance most killers around that new state of affairs.

You're the OP, yes? You're suggesting that exact idea. What do you think the queues would be like in this magical separate swf queue? What do you think the killers that queue up for that mode would be like? I could just tell you, but experience has taught me that it's better to have people come to ideas on their own.

"Just make SWF impossible"
Ok, so we're going back to 2016 before SWF was a thing, where friends lobby dodged until they ended up in their friends lobbies.
"2 or more enter a different queue"
So how does a 3-man SWF work? ... Where is the 4th survivor coming from?
