I think the devs laugh about Dead Hard posts

I like how all killer mains are acting like DH works 100% of the time, there are so many times where you get screwed by the killers ping or your reflexes being too slow. Not everyone who plays this game is 15-17 years old anymore with super good reflexes. Of the 20 games I played yesterday as survivor, DH was only succesful in ~40% of them.
If DH procced everytime you get chased then yes it would be broken but that is not the case. I hope the devs keep this in mind too

Jolt is a way better perk than new eruption. It's free gen regression with an m1 without wasting kicking a gen. New eruption isnt worth the time to kick a gen or a perk slot. If I want info I rather run Floods, BBQ, Nowhere to hide or even bitter mummer. If I want gen regression I rather use pain res, CoB, Overcharge or jolt. At the end of the day, it's a dead perk that most of the community will never use it. Just like how most dont use Thana, pop, or ruin.
1 -
Jolt doesn't require the time investment of kicking a bunch of gens beforehand and the "ten" secs of info you get is useless unless you slug. By the time you pick up and hook someone that 10s(12s) is gone and is outdated. Also, the survivors will know you see them since they scream beforehand so they either greed the gen(most likely finishing it your face by the time you get there) or just leave to do another gen. Stop trying to upsell a eruption as if it's going to be decent bc it won't be. It will only be useful on slugging fast killers(nurse or blight) or a huntress on an open map(which most likely won't happen unless the huntress uses a map offering). Eruption is joining Thana, Dying Light, and FC since it's going to be useless to most players and only going to be used in meme builds. Also, btw sfw will easily dodge eruption :P

I am not sure dead hard is as good as people think it is. If you needed to use Deadhard to begin with, it probably means the killer is hot on your trail. He will just catch up to you in a few more seconds while you are exhausted. I just like dead hard because it is fun for me to use as a survivor. I like platform games and also things that require timing. I wish there were more things like it for both killer and survivor.

Our offices are just desks and conference rooms and a cafeteria, my friend. It's not an evil lair. We don't have even one excessively tall arm chair with an angry looking cat we cat pet while laughing maniacally.
In reality, nobody who spends 8 hours a day working on a game wants people to be upset about something, but things take time. Game devs aren't the super villains you want them to be.
33 -
It sounds like you gotta up the budget for overly tall arm chairs and supervillain-accompanying cats. Y'all are missing out.
4 -
Not my biggest complaint. My issue is that it incentivizes standing behind a surv and waiting. Just waiting. Can't hit, mindgame won, we're near say a window, but nope. Gotta wait 5 seconds.
Let me attack after I've won a chase 100%.

The evidence otzdarva posted a while ago showing an auto-dead hard cheat made me stop playing killer. Now I always suspect a survivor is cheating when they get perfect dead hards, even after the killer has baited it and waited it out for ages, but they hit perfectly every single time.

You mean... you don´t look like this?!
7 -
Just miss on purpose to bait auto Dead Hard bro

I get it that things take time, but I still don't understand why we can't be told if dead hard is getting changed. Is BHVR still not sure if dead hard needs to be changed? We got an absolutely huge advanced notice that a survivor HUD might happen, and the eruption change was announced in advance..... but dead hard might be fine as it is, and we should just spend a few more months arguing about it on the forums?
And if we spend a few more months arguing about dead hard, but BHVR ends up deciding that dead hard is fine, then we get to feel like we wasted a whole bunch of time? And then we get a defeatist expectation that arguing about survivor stuff is a complete waste of time, and only pro-survivor complaints are important?

C'mon now. I always figured the offices at DBD were in a real life setting like Lerys Memorial, or the Hawkins lab or at least a life-like replica. Have to create a role playing atmosphere to match the creative output. There should be developers desks shaped like generators, and drinking fountains like the plagues vile purge.

All jokes aside
Can we at least get a update or indication that DH will be looked at? All you have to do is say DH is getting looked at and all of this would stop.
1 -
It's pretty clear DH is in need of changes and their track record of issues like this has always been to fix the problem. I think a reason they won't come out and say that it will be changed because it might not be next patch. If they say DH will change and then the mid chapter that is revolved around changing perks doesn't have it in there then players will be upset.
1 -
It doesn't need to be the next patch. BHVR could just say "it will be changed sometime in 2023" or some other vague time frame.
Being told "discuss it more" heavily implies a decision hasn't been made, and gives zero commitment on whether or not further discussion would change this. I don't understand what statement BHVR made, has led you to believe that the perk would definitely be changed.

I'd love to spill the beans and share everything way in advance, but there's a lot of reasons to not share everything too far in advance. I'll go through just a few really quick:
- Clear information flow. If we start announcing changes that are two, three, or even four updates away, things get confusing really fast. It's becomes difficult to tell what's in one update or the next. The most hardcore players might be able to keep track, but the vast majority of people will be left wondering, "Wait, is this the update with that perk change? Or is that the next one?" - Keeping things closer to the update they come up in makes this a lot clearer and removes a lot of that ambiguity. You hear about a change and most of the time it'll be in the next update. No confusion.
- Things change. Even with perk updates, they often go through multiple rounds of testing and fine tuning before they see the light of day. Sometimes entire effects are replaced between when they're first prototyped and announced. This can get really messy. Say we announce a perk update and everyone goes, "Wow, that's awesome! I want that right now!" - but then we do some testing and find out that it has a lot of issues and isn't as fun or useful as we'd hope. If that perk then changes from what we've announced, there's going to be a lot of disappointed people. For reference, this are constantly changing even days before the PTB, so announcing something too soon risks that information being incorrect.
- It's better to get your hands on it yourself. Reading words in a blogpost is fine and all, but it does not match up to actually trying something yourself. If you can read about something and try it just a few days later, the feedback you'll give is a lot more likely to be accurate since you've had the chance to actually see how it plays out in a match. By comparison, if you heard about this change months ago, there would have been plenty of time to theorycraft about how this buff/nerf is going to be amazing or terrible, so you're a lot more likely to go into things with an already skewed opinion. By reducing that window between announcement and trying, your feedback is a lot more authentic.
- Arguments can be genuinely helpful (when they're constructive). A lot of these hot topics start as, "I hate this thing." - There's not much to actually go on here, we can't just crank up the "like" dial. But over time, these discussions grow and some more productive feedback starts to come out. More people get involved and bring their own opinions and experiences in, and those gut reactions suddenly have reasoning and evidence to back them up. Seeing how these discussions progress can help us tell if we're on the right track.
- Most of these things are not planned that far in advance. We can't predict the future so balance changes for hot topic perks aren't in our roadmap. When something really starts to catch on, we take a look at it to see what (if anything) we should do about it. We don't hold these updates for some future update. When they're ready, we try to slot them in as soon as we can. When we share info on it, 9 times out of 10 it was only recently finalized.
With something really big like the Survivor HUD, it makes a lot more sense since to share it way in advance it would require a ton of work, so it's nice to get a feel for how people will react before we sink a bunch of time into it. If people absolutely hated it, we'd know that we'd be better off using that time elsewhere.

well, eruption got nerfed so he's winning right now lol
1 -
Great, my immersion is ruined
3 -
"nobody who spends 8 hours a day working on a game wants people to be upset about something, but things take time."
I take that as him being subtle that changes are coming. It's more of him not having a timeframe on when it will be changed.
I also find that the perk will 100% be changed because of how they have dealt will all issues where players were this unhappy. It's just logical that players having very unfun experiences in your game is something that needs to be addressed.

So a Dead Hard change might be coming sometime in the next 10 years but Eruption had to get dumpstered ASAP
5 -
oh but i don't care about winning in that case, i'll just make sure that you'll die without doing anything potentially fun... hint: it involves bubba...
2 -
Y always say only bubba can make the game suck for survivor.
99% of the time any killer no perk can derail the game.
you'll lose, but unless they take a smug satisfaction in you getting no points, the match wasn't worth their time either.

bait so good bhvr bit down
Good work!

You won’t catch me and I’ll teabag you at the exit gate though 😉

I mean you could say the same thing about nurse despite the "nerfs" or "reworks" she is still the strongest killer in the game by far and she is older then dead hard, so should they nerf her to the ground because she stayed on the top for too long ?
0 -
I honestly don't mind her, just revert the buffs to Torn Bookmark and Campbell, and give her aura blindness while charging power so it isn't a free hit when you have aura reading on a survivor.
1 -
Not just devs
0 -
Yes,
You can't just be permitted to ignore all game mechanics whenever you want with Spencer's Last Breath because with enough practice, a Nurse player can all but eliminate the contest, which is bogus (she ought to work like the Oni).
Similar to how Blight needs an add-on pass because 'alc ring/tag' is bogus.
Also similar to how 'Dead Hard' can't be any iteration of 'Press E to ignore results of mind-games.'
All these things are effing bogus, my friends.
So it's probably a good idea to start mopping up ANYTHING that can eliminate and/or nullify the intercourse of fair contest. I mean are we trying to have DbD be an actual game or do we just want to take turns slapping each other with overpowered ######### like jackasses?

"1vs1 c0wsh3d"
I'm so scared /s

And by then the gen is completely finished and your eruption is gone since the gen its applied to is gone. You ARE on a timer, until that gen gets done which depending on the killer and when you found the gen, is a very short time. Especially given you have to first go out of your way to kick it then catch up to the survivor and down them
0 -
This was explained really well. Thank you for breaking it down because even I was wondering what he meant when he said 'dead hard is a recently complained about issue' but when you explain it that way it does make sense why he'd say that. People only started getting good with it and using it more recently similar to what happened back when it got buffed by servers indirectly
0 -
That’s not what happened at all though. Dead hard has been the most complained about survivor perk for a while. But when BHVR announced that eruption was getting a massive nerf, but didn’t mention anything about dead hard, that caused people to become so outraged that they started flooding the forums with dead hard posts.
2 -
If the perk expired or timed out after a certain amount of time I'd be more inclined to agree with you. In that case you could really only use the perk in situations where the gen has meaningful progress and there's a limited window to get the down for full eruption value.
But instead, the perk lasts indefinitely and gets used quite often on gens under 10%. The only gameplay this perk "rewards" most of the time is making sure every gen has been kicked at least once, where the killer will leave a (barely touched) gen and survivor completely alone to go kick more gens. I'm sorry, but I don't think that kicking gens is "skillful" gameplay... especially when there is absolutely no discretion on whether a gen is worth kicking or not.
Even if it can reward skilled plays when a gen is near completion, it not only rewards but also encourages the "spray and pray" kick everything playstyle, which I struggle to see much "skill" in.
1 -
Good, you should be.

I guess that you don't know what sarcasm is😒... anyway i'm done talking to you since this conversation isn't useful and you are only provoking instead of giving reasonable points for the thread

gg ez

Trust me, I wasn't the one creating copious Eruption and DH salt threads unlike you guys so...
0 -
I love you for this
0 -
Nah it was actually 5 years. Remember 5th anniversary? New DH was literally that but minus the endurance
1 -
Let me guess. By sick ambush attacks you mean the classic bait one direction and go he other one last second to catch people off guard? Trust me it's not unique and doesn't require DH to counter
0 -
Honey I'm waiting for the Smash Hit hatred to eventually happen as each perk gets nerfed slowly but surely
0 -
And even if they did play Killer. The level of "efficiency" they'd have is beyond questionable.
0 -
Wait, was that the time when old DH was bugged and gave no distance (on top of the usual exhausted on the floor)? That ######### was hilarious.
0 -
Yup. That's exactly why I don't find DH that much of a problem. It's the exact same distance as the bugged version
1 -
Make it like Blood Rush, usable only when one hook away from death.
The end.

Eh, one takes timing while one just need a good ole kick

"will catch up to you in a few more seconds" lol 💀💀💀

-"Dead hard has been the most complained about survivor perk for a while."
Dead hard has been the most hated survivor perk for a long time. Here's the thing - the devs should be willing to nerf it into the ground because it is a free perk that anyone with 3m BP has access to if they level up David.
IF I were designing a 4v1 video game and I cared more about making money than actual balance I would introduce a new pay to win perk and make sure it never hit the srine until like two years had passed .
All you would need to do is make some extreme BS perk like as follows. Let's call the perk: Beach Run. While another survivor is in a chase and you are not in a chase you can press "E" to give the survivor being chased a sprint burst. This gives you- not the player in the chase exhaustion.
This would be ridiculously broken to the point where literally everyone would buy the perk. And then SWF teams would have one player take chase and the team would take turns giving the person being chased multiple sprint bursts. For best effectiveness this player would also have Dead Hard.
All jokes aside- DH gives the survivor team more time to work on their objectives than any other perk. It's incredibly unfun to play against as killer and requires you to play the game differently because it exists.
Imagine for example that gates automatically regressed to zero progess at a 1:1 rate. Killers would actually use Bloodwarden. It would force survivors to open doors or face the consequence of automatic door regression.
You would have to play the end game in a completely different way. No longer would you feel "safe" just because the gates are powered.
