Pinhead should not have the ability to stand ontop of the puzzle box
most cenobites these days just try to take the game hostage by using the addon to see the box and sit on it all game with perks like hex ruin and undying to make it impossible to do anything all game. This is a poorly designed mechanic for a licensed killer that gets exploited too often

To my understanding when Pinhead hits the box out of the hands of Survivor using Franklins they automatically pick it up right?
Then bHVR could make it so that when Pinhead picks up the box on contact or walking over, yea?
I don't think that would hurt Pinhead players that much and the BoxHostage Game is pretty unfun for both sides.

But what does that have to do with what the OP said?

I think he means when the pinhead player walks over the box it should automatically be picked up instead of giving the option to

It means Pinhead's would have a much harder time protecting the Box, one step too close and the game progresses normally.
Its a suggestion of how bHVR could solved this issue. You understand now? Ill edit my comment to clarify.

poster is using an example of a mechanic that already exists to indicate that if behavior wanted to they could nullify the whole thing by allowing survivors to pick up the puzzle box by running near it.
this wouldn't work though. because simply put... not everyone wants to pick up the box. if a player has franklins demise then they wanted to pick up the box. and it doesn't change the fact that a player has to run past the killer to get the box.

post wasnt really about franklins in the op, survivors would still have to pick up the box by choice, but the killer should pick up the box the moment they step over it to prevent the cenobite from taking a game hostage with perks to slow down gens like hex ruin basically undoing any progress you could do on a gen in between removing chains and touching the gen for all of 1 sec

Ok I understand now but I think bhvr could solve the issue easily just pausing the chain hunt if Pinhead is nearby the box for more than X seconds?
0 -
Yeah but that would make standing nearby with insidious to Lure Survivors be detrimental.
I think my solution is least detrimental,
A pinhead player would know not to step over it, then they can still do ambush Pinhead, but they cant stand on it to guard it.

Can we stop using "holding the game hostage" to describe things we don't like? If he's standing on box, do gens until you get to the ones around the box, then get close to it. Simple.

The issue is if Pinhead is standing on top of the box, survivors don't get a prompt to pick up the box at all it sounds like. They also can't do gens because chain hunt interrupts and incapacitates until they remove the chains which means they can't make repair progress during a prolonged chain hunt which means if ruin is up they will at best gens will take super long times to finish or just won't be doable at all.
That's pretty much the standard for what gets considered hostage taking in dbd. At least in function if not intent.

You can still progress gens. If he's sitting on the box, go do gens. You can do all 5 gens with 0 hooks.
1 -
technically it isnt holding the game hostage, you can still get gens done, its just annoying asf
0 -
So the killer isn't chasing or hooking and all that's happening is every now and then you have to avoid a few chains. And that's somehow a problem? Aren't you all escaping at that point? It's not possible for a killer to guard the box, and their totem, as well as run around getting downs/hooks.

No, that only happens on a down WITHOUT Franklin's
With Franklin's it just drops on the ground and resets the chain hunt timer

Oh, only Pinhead?
Guess that means chatterer mains get a free pass lmao

Funny.

Annoying that the box cannot be lifted at all even when no one is standing on it

All you need is SINGLE person in a team that knows how to counter this. This single person will find some other survivor that would want to try to do a gen. But instead of doing the gen with him, all he needs to do is play catch with that other survivor's chains. That's it. Problem solved. The game lasts a little longer, but that pinhead can't ever possibly win and the game will not take even that long...

You're right.
Now how do you make that solution consistently viable in a game where you can not directly communicate with your randomly selected teammates? You're asking for a level of trust and coordination that tends not to exist in the vast majority of dbd matches, especially at lower ranks which is probably where this is an actual problem.

Can’t say I’d be against this strategy going away, but a Pinhead who’s just camping box is completely throwing the game. Even AFK Pig was better than this as assuming rng was on your side, you could probably get at least one kill with practically nothing survivors could do to stop it. AFK Pinhead though really isn’t achieving anything other than annoying survivors with a long game. My suggestion to fix this would simply be to rework Chatterer’s Tooth as it doesn’t do anything, but encourage box camping.

You don't. If it's you, then find any single survivor that still tries to do SOMETHING. And catch the chains for him. You don't need communication. You just need your team to not give up like totally immediately. Should be pretty doable

Doing 5 gens with a chain hunt and ruin active is going to take you like 15 minutes.
You're going to repair for ~5 seconds, get interrupted for ~5 seconds during which time the gen will regress about ~1 second. At that rate it'll probably take you 23 intervals of +4 seconds of progress, each interval taking you 10 seconds to complete. Which is over 3.5 minutes to get a single gen done. Even if everyone on your team is powering through it (they're not going to), it's still probably going to take at least 7 minutes to get all 5 done.
As an alternative, you can just DC from a match where the killer is literally just griefing you. The DC button exists for a reason. It's because sometimes there's a reason to DC. Being griefed or held hostage is one of those reasons and that's part of the reason your first DC penalty is only 1 minute.

Have it work like Pyramid Head's cages: if Pinhead stays near (and I mean very near) the Box for too long without picking it up, it automatically teleports away to another part of the map.
