New Visual Terror Radius

So this is new:
As far as accessibility options go, this is an interesting one. It solves a lot of hearing-impaired issues.
That is to say, assuming this IS for accessibility and not just a broad, survivor-wide information buff.
My question, however, would be: Are killers also getting a similar accessibility change? Something that lights up in a direction and intensity when survivors make the various noises killers are expected to parse? That tracks distance and alerts through a visual system that actually provides concrete information, rather than just a blob of reddish-orange in response to the most distant and loudest of alerts? Something that can track footsteps and breathing and grunts of pain?

Im assuming they are using the visual cues from mobile. For killer they have these red lines pointing in the vague direction of specific survivor noises when the killer is close enough, primarily when a survivor is injured.

Yes, it is off by default.
Why would the Killer be able to see it?

I can confirm that it is for accessibility. It provides absolutely no advantage over the regular terror radius, it's purely for folks who need a visual alternative.
At the moment, there is no equivalent on the Killer side, though it would no doubt be nice to have. When it comes to accessibility, we would rather get these features out sooner so the people who need them can use them than wait until we have other features to 'balance' it for both sides.
That said, if you ever have suggestions for future accessibility options, please feel free to drop them here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/categories/suggestions

You can toggle it on/off yes. No the killer won't be able to see it - neither will other survivors, it's purely for the player who has it toggled on.
This is an accessibility feature to assist our hard of hearing players so that they can hear the terror radius of the killer, they don't get any other sound cues such as gens being worked, sounds of other survivors healing etc. It's purely the terror radius.

Can we get an increased FoV or have auto aim reworked for killers? Survivors spinning to trick the auto aim causing killers to miss swings disproportionately hurts us console players, it's unfair

Does this have any interaction with lullaby killers (eg. Huntress or Freddy while in dream state)?

Love to see accessibility features added to this game even though I personally won’t use them!
I kinda expected something different here and not ‚just’ the mobile version but I guess it is fitting and TR shouldn’t be shoved into one corner of the hud so..
thank you very much for this!

I don't play DBDM so does the heart just "glow" more as the terror radius get louder? Like it starts with no heart and gets brighter as the killer gets closer?

Yep

I don't understand how this provides absolutely no advantage over the regular terror radius? For example, if I'm on a generator, I can't hear the far away faint terror radius noises over the loud generator noises. As survivor, will I be getting a visual terror radius symbol, in scenarios where I can't hear a terror radius?

This is less a 'add other features to balance for both sides' concern and more a 'providing parity in accessibility options.' But sure. I posted the "help killers who are hard of hearing" in its own suggestion thread.
1 -
no, if you can't hear the terror radius, you won't get the visual heartbeat showing. It only gives a visual to what a player is able to hear.

I think it's great that DBD is committed to more accessibility. This is a feature that has unfortunately been ignored for a long time in the video game era. I look forward to future changes :)

Fantastic news, more accessibility is always welcome!

I would like to see the same for killers.

I wonder if Spine Chill is gonna have reverted change.
I think the perk was worse in PTB and got better in live server (current).

Great news ! =)
Will probably be very useful for hearing impaired people, especially against some killers who have quieter TRs (Artist gets me every time!).

How does this affect Killers with lullabys such as Huntress, Trickster and Freddy?
1 -
the visual terror radius shows the lullaby - the same way as you would if you heard it
3 -
Is there a video showing it in action with terror radius and with lullaby or do we have to wait until PTB?
0 -
you have to wait until you get the opportunity to play with it yourselves.
1 -
Bummer since I'm on console and will need to wait for people to share video.

Any way to make it appear some place less distracting visually?
I like the feature, but don't like the idea of having a bright heart on my survivor chest during the match.
I would have preferred something like a small icon next to the Perks.
Could we maybe change the way it looks in the options?

The only alterations to it are the Colour Blind settings - yes those do affect the Visual Terror radius as well. There's no ability to move it around the body - it's in the heart place which makes sense.

not that im surprised, but pretending like this isnt providing any sort of advantage is a little bit silly.
being able to tell what exactly is going on through all of the noise layers going on is a pretty big deal. being able to bypass all of this and just have a clear visual indicator of how near a killer is is an obvious advantage.
"At the moment, there is no equivalent on the Killer side, though it would no doubt be nice to have. When it comes to accessibility, we would rather get these features out sooner so the people who need them can use them than wait until we have other features to 'balance' it for both sides."
this is a hilarious paragraph... "wouldn't it be nice if we considered balance when making changes to the game? dang, too bad we dont."

When can we expect similar accessibility features for killer? For example audio is extremely important as killer and for hard of hearing or deaf people it basically becomes impossible. FoV slider for dealing with motion sickness/headaches.
I personally have hearing issues and would love to see something like this happen for killers.

The effect this will have on the balance of the game is very minimal.
The benefit of allowing people who are hard of hearing able to play survivor without their hearing being a massive detriment, on the other hand...
5 -
Outside of the very specific scenario of the deafening sound of a sacrificed survivor being dragged up by the entity drowning out a faint terror radius sound, I can't think of any other place where you can't quite clearly hear the terror radius.
1 -
What about killers like Freddy or Huntress who have lullabies? Will there be sound indications for that as well? What about things like Plague getting corrupt purge, Wraith uncloaking, or even Spirit phase? Is there any plans to expand accessibility further with something like direction audio indicators?

Whats about Freddy lullaby? His lullaby is the hardest to know the distance.
Its like his lullaby goes from 0 to 100 in a few meters, which I dont know how close he is with his lullaby unlike Huntress.
If visual TR show exact distance to lullaby, I would consider this is a nerf to Freddy.

Mandy already answered about lullabies. Yes, they'll be shown as if they were a terror radius in regards to the visual indicator. Please read threads for potential answers to your questions first, as 9 times out of 10 someone will have already asked your question and someone will have already answered it.
I can't help but think that this might provide a huge advantage against Sadako, as it would basically eliminate any aspect of her stealth by giving you an extremely clear indicator that she's approaching while demanifested...

I like the sound of it, basically basekit spine chill.
I'm less enthusiastic about killer getting something similar to "visually" hear injured survs. I don't think they need that, they alreadybhave blood trails.

Pretty sure Chugger was asking to OP and didnt see Mandy answering.
Huntress & Trickster lullaby have clear distance based on how tense their music are. I understand it clearly.
And my question is toward to Freddy, because I feel his lullaby is different to others, no distance at all. Visual may make it easier to estimate the distance, which may be a nerf to Freddy.
And return to my question, would the visual TR an indirect nerf to Freddy?

Freddy's lullaby absolutely gets louder as he gets closer. You might not be able to tell that, but then you'll get great use out of this new feature I guess.
