What if tunneling was made impossible?
I'm definitely not the first person to think this, but let's say hypothetically that the following changes were made:
After being unhooked:
You can not interact with the killer or their power, this is deactivated when you perform a conspicuous action, or when another survivor is hooked.
Of course a lot of killers would need buffs to compensate, but assuming they were brought up to the level of being able to 12 hook everyone to death, would this be good for the game or not?
I'm thinking maybe this would remove an element of strategy from the game, but for casual players(the majority of the playerbase) this change would be very welcome after everyone gets adjusted.

As you said "if they were brought up to thr le el of being able to 12 hook" there wouldnt need be any reason to tunnel, but doing that last thing is impossible so I wouldn't put too much tought into this scenario.

Strategy should still be there since you can rotate hooks between 2 players. Even if you go for 12 hooks you can just ignore one player and spread hooks between 3 players.

I mean, Blight/Nurse/Spirit players don't need to tunnel, they can 12 hook, but a lot still do because it's the path of least resistance.

It's a party game though, I don't like the idea of DBD taking itself super seriously and ending up like Apex Legends or Call of Duty.
2 -
I can't be the only one that thinks if DBD was mostly just a chase simulator where everyone gets at least 1-2 chases, then the game would be significantly better.

Being able to 12 hook before the last Gen pops is one thing
Being able to 12 hook after the last Gen popped is another
So much would have to change so much

Well we have a PTB to test things like this risk free but for some reason they Wong do any major changes in the PTB

Oh dbd would be 100% better if it was like that. I think the issue is multifaceted where you need to fix tunneling while making it so the killer wants to chase all survivors and not try to remove players. Like having that idea while pairing it with game delay if you fresh hook someone and lose it when they die.

I would vouch for this...
If gen speed perks and items were killed along with it.
Making games take a little longer than 4 minutes would probably be a good thing.

This is not a party game regardless of how much you repeat that to yourself.

Nope. I don't care what's done about tunneling obviously because I am a blight main. But if I had to play survivor against a clown that was so stat-stick buffed he was A tier I would not be happy. Many other killers would simply just be atrocious to play against if they could 12 hook against similar skill level players without tunneling.

Might just be me, but I never want to have 100% safety while playing survivor. The killer being a constant threat is more engaging than mechanics forcing extra chances after failure.
1 -
Of course that would go along with the general killer buffs.
Then what is it then?
What's the alternative then? On top of being terrible to play against he'd also not even let you experience the sub-par chase?
You're definitely an anomaly, but I'm sure most survivors would like a game where they get 3 chases in and some downtime on gens, also most survivors aren't very good and can't last as long in chase.

A Asymmetrical Horror Game. The Killer is not part of the party aspect of the game. It's the Survivors vs the Killer in a 4v1 aspect. If it was a party game all players would be on the same team or at least all have the same goal.

I think the concept is more theme than balance. It would just be silly to have an absolutely untouchable survivor, kind of like a ghost.
I'm not sure if that is anymore silly than people having a hooked shoved through their body then being healed by magic hands, but it would feel strange.
It also wouldn't prevent tunneling, just hard tunneling. If you see two survivors you can still go after the one closer to death hook, you just can't chase them immediately after the hook.
If it ends when a person does a conspicuous action I doubt it would hurt the balance that much for soloQ. A survivor not doing anything is a win for the killer.
The problem would be with SWFs where the untouchable survivor could follow the killer around and relay what is happening. That could be addressed by cutting the unhooked person's speed in half.
I think there are a lot of better ways to deal with tunneling though then going to this extreme.

At that point better remove the ######### hooks, let killers "sacrifice" survivors and let them respawn in 60 seconds or so.

You want unhooked Survivors to get the golden star from Mario Brothers?
Um... no.

Sounds abuseable. I can easily become "the pallet thrower/saver" with a friend on comms and be unhittable/undownable and able to throw pallets to help teammates out and the killer can't do anything about it even if I'm directly in front of his face? What about flashbang and flashlight plays? The killer cannot do anything to me in this theoretical example as long as someone else doesn't get hooked and I don't heal at all/go work on a gen.

Honestly just a base kit DS (5s stun) would solve most of the tunneling in the game.
The perk itself could be buffed to have another effect like a longer duration or not get cancelled by conspicuous actions.
Little adjustments could be made to prevent from "using it agressively" (a nebulous concept for me but apparently a great concern) like removing collision as long as it's active.
As for being able to 12 hook, well, every killer can already do that, depending on the circumstances. Every killer has good matches and bad matches.
And strong killers like Nurse still tunnel just because. So I wouldn't buff killers too much. Mainly killer-specific QoL and addon reworks/buffs would go a long way.

If i had to be completely honest i would hate this change. And not even for balancing reasons.
It would just be boring. Kills any tention there is after being unhooked.

What changes would you make so that it is impossible for survivors to tunnel generators?
It needs to go both ways.
0 -
Because what this game needs is a survivor standing out in the open teabagging in the killer's face because they just got off the hook so they're in their invincible "Haha you can't touch me you can't touch me!" phase.
That sounds great, this game absolutely needs childish playground nonsense like that. It's not like it has enough already.
