The Continued Ignorance of Performance Issues Continues to Hamper Player Fun

@Pulsar any news you can share about this?
Btw why has not a single bhvr staff replied here?? 135 pages and that's still not relevant enough for them?

Mandy is a CM for BHVR and checks in regularly.
Also, the same news as usual. The same or worse on Xbox One and PS4. More stutters and frame drops and maps that barely function.
Series X and PS5 are starting to have issues on newer maps too. Garden of Joy, Haddonfield and RPD specifically

I haven't loaded in since update yet but was planning on later today. I was hoping since this patch was mainly bug fixes that maybe performance wouldn't get worse. Of course it does get worse though and right before the Halloween event... Always the patch before the Halloween event starts...

From one of the devs on twitter today's update, specifically the optimizations to anims and sounds should have improved framerates
0 -
The devs don't play their own game on console or they'd see the same things we're seeing. And then they don't believe us unless we have video evidence and tell us to deal with it when we tell them it's difficult to do on console.
I play on XBox Series X and since the 6.0 update, the game health has been awful. Longer than normal loading screen times (2-4 minutes main loading screen after starting the game, between 30 seconds to 2 minutes loading a match), lag, stuttering, significant framerate drops, audio lag, ect.
Changing sounds does not improve framerates. Animations do very little. What does improve framerates is making sure content is released with little to no bugs/glitches, that locations/maps aren't cluttered with unnecessary objects, and codes aren't trying to overwrite other codes. My guess is there is a lot of codes trying to overwrite other codes. You have 4 players with a large list of possible perks, 1 killer with about the same list of perks, killer abilities have to compete with said perks and vice versa with survivors, while competing with objects in the map (generators, totems, ect). My overall point is the game is starting to get cluttered with code and that can cause some of the most issues in framerates, freezes, lag, ect.
They need to either fix their codes which may not ever be possible depending on how many are conflicting. or start a whole new game from scratch which would be the easier solution.
1 -
Oh yeah their codebase is the saddest codebase of a multiplayer game in history. I imagine valve devs are happier hacking things onto Source than whatever the ######### this game's is.
1 -
And up to this point their solution is to neither recode this game from the ground up nor make a fresh DBD2. Most likely waiting for support of the prior gen consoles to end so we can be all be punted away...
2 -

gotta uhmmm actually you here. their code is that bad that there are plenty of optimizations that will noticably help everywhere to be done tbh
0 -
Its not too bad but expect short freezes like always.
I'm gonna play anyways.
0 -
I"m not entirely sure what you mean. I said bad codes = more lag in a game. So does a lot of animations but not nearly as bad as conflicting codes trying to override each other. Sure, they can optimize the codes, but I have no clue how many are trying to compete against each other because I'm not a dev for this game. Right now, I'm constantly receiving strange errors and being kicked back to the main loading screen all due to coding errors. It wasn't like this before the 6.0 patch. I'm worried that with their optimizations that they're forgetting to remove old codes (even old content which can cause conflict issues) which is confusing the application. Especially when they're pushing so many changes in such a short time.

I completely agree.

Good point. Also, to point to hackers, it's quite obvious it's a coding issue with all the cheaters/hackers in the game. I really think they need to focus on game health (which includes game security) instead of pushing out new content on a monthly to quarterly basis right now. Plus, all this new content is just weighing everything down and eventually will make it almost useless to try to restore any health left in this game.
0 -
The issue with the hackers is that DBD is glorified peer to peer. Instead of even attempting to start the transition back in the day the picked the laziest and cheapest path & went ahead with the minimal amount of changes needed. Servers are glorified ping stabilizers and client has practically complete authority on what happens in the game.
Insane that this game is mishandled this badly.
1 -
Yeah, they need to start putting checks and balances onto a server. The matches themselves should be on a server. I really hope they go in that direction because if not, they're screwing their own game over.
1 -
I really hope they just throw out a lot of systems that are currently client side and move them server side. Would improve performance, rid us of cheaters (at least the DBD speedhack, etc. kind) and make the hits more sensible.
1 -
I'm not currently sure if this is a console-specific issue, but I figured it would be worth a post.
The game crashes a lot right now. I've crashed once in the last 3 months but since the Event went live, I've crashed almost ten times. Likewise, sometimes the game server just closes and you get DC'd.
One Survivor crashed here and the server closed for both the Killer and myself, meaning we didn't get BP, achievement progress, event progress or anything of the sort.
1 -
I’m on ps5 and my game didn’t crash a single time…
0 -
I'm glad you aren't having any issues, I wish I could steal a bit of that for myself
0 -
It’s probably more on bhvrs side. I don’t think your Xbox series x is the problem
2 -
Franklin's causing game to freeze
Game freezes when survivor is unhooked or deception is used
6 -
Agreed, I think they mentioned its on the cards on a anti cheat post but maybe I'm just looking for answers so hard I wanna see I'm going crazy aha
0 -
Something tells me they won't do anything about old gen anymore, even if it gets worse.
My suggestion is play something else. Dbd is not worth the constant frustration even without the performance issues.
Or at least take breaks like I do. Taking dbd in small doses with long breaks in between is good for you.
Funny how elden ring works perfect on old gen with all the content it has but then you have ps2 looking game dbd running like trash.
Even rdo with packed lobbies cause no issues and it looks centuries ahead of dbd.

I don't find that unlikely

Two year anniversary of this thread and nothing has changed. Any official updates to this, or if it is being worked on at all, as Pulsar has inquired about here?

60 FPS lives on a beautiful farm where it plays with Switch cross-progression every day
0 -
Is that the same farm my Aunt sent my cat to go play?
1 -
Wow I can’t believe it’s already been two years since this thread was made.
5 -
It's slightly less relevant, but still important
0 -
Two years since the thread.
Four years since 60 FPS was promised.
I'm definitely disappointed that there's been radio silence, though I'm not really surprised.
I'd say the odds of 60 FPS happening for Xbox One and PS4 (as well as budget PC's) is extremely slim at this point. If anyone was banking on them fixing it, I'd say to let it go.
You've given them four years. If it was a priority, it would've been fixed.
5 -
funny enough the "perfomance issues reports section" was also removed with the new forums, mmm interesting.....
2 -
After their 4 year promise and this post going for 2 years with no real improvements to optimization I think it's confirmed they aren't bothering, especially for the older consoles. Knowing new consoles have experienced performance issues already I'm sure it won't be long before they'll be in same spot - asking for optimization and seeing no improvement, only BHVR saying they're looking into it.
After this it has made me not want to play BHVR games on console because I can't trust that they'll put in effort to optimize the games for the console playerbase. I got the new game for free on ps+ but I won't be downloading it, I've learned my lesson with DBD.
1 -
I also can't find those old dev updates anymore either.
3 -
Less relevant?
I finally got an Xbox series X. Still get stutters in the middle room of Lery's, especially against Freddy or Doc, and a few spots on Garden and Haddonfield and other maps. Sloppy Butcher being applied on any of them triggers a frame drop, and you know that perk will be run more often after the recent update. Exposed triggering for any reason can cause it to happen too.
The more ya run DBD it seems these issues slowly crop up again.
1 -
2 years?! Damn.
3 -
I like how they removed the optimization reports section , but the game still freezes when some things happen overall in the game + the new building related to the SM on shelter woods still kills my perfomance when chasing there so Im forced to play on medium or low when i get that map to avoid fps drops.
totally we dont need a optimzation issues report section RIGHT? 🤔
3 -
So alot of the same triggers we've had for performance issues are now causing people to randomly get kicked from games. As survivor the end game screen shows they DC'd with the killer even though the match is still going and they get hit with a DC penalty. Like with performance issues they're told internet is to blame even though internet is fine.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/366497/forcefully-kicked-from-match#latest
1 -
Still nothing new.... damn
I was able to play the game again like a moth ago... I did have fun... but I also feel like my Killer preference is getting stale
Not much to say on the Console side I haven't had many issues with it
0 -
Hmmmm.
How can that be, that's definitely never been a thing before.
Crashes, sure but I don't recall anyone ever being disconnected from a match without crashing.
It sort of sounds like getting DDoS'd, but not a sustained attack. Just enough to boot you from the server.
0 -
SWF teammate has never streamed so be kind of random to DDoS him and do it this often.
The people kicked from these triggers can see the killers load out because it says killer DC'd too even though match is still going - it's like the game is confused and gives you DC penalty just to be safe.
Seeing more people in that post mention same triggers it really feels like it's related to performance issues we get. Maybe for most it causes the freezes we've complained about here but others it is kicking them from the match.
1 -
I don't really ever stream either, but I think I'm an edge case.
I've seen reports of people being booted from games before for no discernable reason, I find it likely that this is the case here, but I could be wrong.
0 -
I did have an interesting encounter today. I don't know if it's specifically related to Consoles.
I had grabbed someone as Wesker, they DC'd, Wesker kept making the grunt he does when he grabs someone and then my entire Xbox turned off.
If that's what you were talking about earlier, I definitely found it.
0 -
No, that sounds horrible. Everyone else in the match is fine when the player that's having this issue gets kicked, the other players continue playing like normal and think the person rage quit. Person that gets kicked gets sent back to end game screen and it shows both they and the killer DC'd even though killer is still in the match playing. When it happens to my SWF teammate we're still chatting while I'm getting chased in the match he was kicked from.
It happened tonight. He was so mad because he's been having a wicked hard time with that stun killer 3 times in a single match. Killer used power nearby as my SWF teammate was like 99.9999% done with last gen. Teammate gets kicked, HUD still shows him on gen but also has dc symbol, killer is able to kick gen and start it regressing when it would've been finished had my teammate not been kicked. I couldn't even pick up the medkit he had in his hand while on the gen, it was like under it. Teammate as they're in loading screen heading back to end game screen goes "tell me the killer DC'd and it wasn't the game kicking me..." followed by him going on a rant about how frustrating it is to be losing the BP/XP/Fragments earned and not get credit for challenges but also getting hit with DC penalties on top of it.
Whatever causes your console to shut down I would think is unrelated but also that's terrible.

Idk man aside from the occasional frame drop, I play on the Xbox one X and i never experience any problems
0 -
I'm glad that you aren't having issues!
I have about 4 thousand other comments that say that there are issues.
2 -
Of all the frustrating things in this game, few are more frustrating than losing track of a survivor or missing a skillcheck because of framedrops.
1 -
Does anyone just have random framedrops that ONLY happen when you're playing killer? Sometimes, I'll be playing and my frames will just start ####ing DYING.
1 -
I'm still suffering on Switch, and I had the genius idea of getting my friends on the switch version too thinking the custom games would be better but no. It nearly bricked one of my friend's Switch Lite (Game crashed and system wouldn't power on for a whole day), another friend said they had constant frame stutters which causes them to miss skillchecks occasionally, and I can barely play an oni match with more than 1 person being injured since the blood orbs cause massive frame slowdown. Every one of them thinks the game is just a cash grab due to the low quality of the port. This is the impression new console players are getting.
3 -
Y'all crazy for trying the custom matches in this game. Those are still peer-to-peer, so the killer hosts those matches. On a Switch, especially the lite, that would be such a drain on the itsy bitsy horsepower they do have.
Love all of you Switch Cousins! Y'all have it the roughest.
3 -
I would genuinely not recommend the game on older generation systems at this point.
It's just not worth it, especially since you still get matched against people who are getting 100 extra FPS.
3 -
I'm really just hoping for cross-progression now honestly. I just feel really bad for my friends that spent money on this port.
