Should maps be bigger or movement speed reduced?

Or both? I noticed as Ghostface he is quite fast and at the start of a trial I encounter a survivor very quickly when I'm trying to be sneaky. They see me very quickly and it's difficult to be unseen from the start because I feel most maps are either to small or too narrow.

I honestly believe maps should be bigger while also increasing movement speed to keep travel time roughly the same while still keeping things far away and covered enough to prevent things like camping generators on opposite sides of the map, or the gates by just standing at the center of the map.

Movement gives room to decision mistakes and oportunity windows, whereas the stillness of camping objectives at direct opposite sides at a glance just keeps devolving into terribly unengaging stalemates. Effective, yes, but not exactly something many people find engaging on either side.

Maps like Haddonfield and Dead Dawg Saloon are terribly prone to have easy to camp gates and gens from the center, and while this is not a problem when survivors are ahead by a lot because it allows an opportunity for a comeback from the killer, it is a terrible design for less than 3 escapes. Popping the last generator with two or less people alive in these situations usually means it's a guaranteed 4k for the killer because hatch is almost a nonexistent mechanic and gates are impossible to open when the other side can just check gate progress by quickly flicking their mouse.

But then again, not many people on these forums would agree with this because they think the map size increase would come in a vaccum and anyone that proposes this is trying to get easy 4 escapes every time which, at least in my case, is far from the truth.

Many maps should be half the size they are, if not even smaller than that. Huge maps are a major reason only a couple killers are viable.

Maps are generally too big. A lot of them need to see their size drastically reduced.

Try to use main building/high ground at the start of the trial to stalk unaware survivors. Use the perk Corrupt Intervention to force them to come to you and make stalking them easier.

There’s no guarantee that you’ll never be spotted at the beginning of the match, but the goal is to have them 99% stalked before they can react to you. Also, wear DARK cosmetics.

Tbh they just need to remove bloodlust entirely then that’s fine as much as incompetent killer mains would like you too believe making maps smaller is a bad idea with Gen and gate placements being scuffed like killers need it any easier than they already have It coming from someone who does 50/50 and wins most games killer side and my solo q games are dreadful 80% of the time

Then how would a chase be balanced if a Killer moved let's say.. 10 % quicker?

Movement speed would be increased for everyone so map traversal would remain largely the same.

There are some real concerns about the number of pallets and windows that a bigger map would inevitably bring, and there's a couple of levers they could pull for killers not to fall too far behind of what's their current kill rate. Breaking speed, vaulting speed, entity tolerance to window vaults and a reworked bloodlust are some changes that come to mind.

I think there is a point where kill rate would not be absolutely obliterated, while at the same time making opposite walls harder to see and camp. Defending your objective should be an active process, not a passive one.

And personally, two of my most hated matches in this game involved me as Ghostface camping two gates that spawned on the same wall (somehow?) and just... standing still until the last 2 survivors appeared, and another one with me waiting for the EGC to run out while a Ghostface camped two gates on opposite sides of the map while standing on top of a hill. I really don't think that's fun nor do I think it should be encouraged by making maps even smaller.

I don't understand the point of baiting like this on dbd forums. You are literally gaining nothing from it. Unless you derive joy from other humans being mad, in which case I am sorry for you.

To be honest, If we raised base movement speed from Killer to 5.0 m/s and Survivor to 4.4 m/s, that would still have the same effect inside a chase but both would be better at map traversal.

But still, I'm not to much of a fan of large maps as even with 10 % increased movement speed, it'd still be to large to cover. Weirdly enough, Coal Tower is one of the smallest maps, but 3-gens happen so rare there because the gens are decently split still. I'd rework maps like Azarov's Resting place or Suffocation Pit to not have that tight bottle neck in the middle.

In theory yes, but in practice you are reducing survivor reaction time (all mind games are now easier) + lag hits feels like a bigger problem now (I was somewhere else on my screen - why did I get hit?) - so overall this would still be a noticeable killer buff (I presume other movement speeds - like killer abilities, would be adjusted in same manner as base movement speed)

I'm sorry you're mad but I don't understand why I'm always being accused of "baiting".

    Yooooo

Maps are either... like... the size of the continent of Africa, have 1 million pallets per square inch... or both.

    Maps needs to be SMALLER
