Why The Mid-Chapter Patch Is A Good One
Since some of the things in the PTB have been reversed for the live release this patch seems more promising.
The new bloodweb leveling system is one of the best things in this patch, just leveling up a character took forever if you saved bloodpoints and now it's much easier instead of just holding each individual thing you wanted.
The new visual terror radius is also a good change, not only does it help deaf and colorblind people it also helps others. People who like to play without volume can now play while having a visual aid to help them out if the killer is coming near them instead of having to equip Spine Chill.
The reverse change to Medkits brining them back down to 16 seconds instead of 24 seconds is good not making it so survivors have to heal for long periods of time.
The change to Hillbilly's overheat mechanic will make it easier to utilize his chainsaw.
The change to Dead Hard now makes it an anti-tunnel perk now that it activates after a survivor is unhooked. The nerfs to the gen-kick meta is good, not only will matches not be forever it will want to make killers chase more and down survivors quicker to secure the match in their favor
And finally the changes to Nurse's, Wraith's, Hag's, and Artist's lightburn ability is also welcome. Just having an item being their one weakness seemed unfair because those were the only killers that had item as their weakness

Agreed. Now we just need to buff the least used killers and perks for both sides.

It’s a great patch overall. New perks have risen to the meta like Gearhead or overzealous and this meta feels more fair and not just regression/Dead hard
The only major issue left is map design which they are still struggling with (Gas heaven has a ridiculous 3 gen set up)

The fact that the BEST part of this patch is something that doesn't affect gameplay one bit is so very telling. Sorry, cant get on this bandwagon. This patch is just a placation at best.

Why should anyone play overzealous? This perk will never become meta. It's not really worth it, you have to find a totem first, cleanse it and then it's like 10% (hex totems are not that common anymore like they were 2 years ago) which isn't a great game changer. It also deactivates once you get a hit which will happen fairly often. They should change it to only deactivate when you get hooked.

No one in public games ever flashlight-burned a Nurse or Artists birds. It was only a problem for Wraith and maybe Hag (the one in hundred times you see a Hag....). Only skilled players did this to Nurse and it felt fair because it was risky (if you fail you get hit) and she is already way too strong.

The best part of this patch is the death of ultra-reliable fast self healing, the bloodweb improvements are a second best.
Besides, even if it were the best part, that doesn't mean the gameplay changes aren't also good.

This patch is not good.
Blood web changes are good, I'll give it that.
Visual TR is almost good. It has a massive misstep with the handling of Sadako and Trickster lullabies.
The medkit changes are... fine I guess.
Don't play Hillbilly so can't comment on that.
New Dead Hard isn't anti tunnel. In fact it is countered by tunneling, camping, and slugging. Not exactly the best way to go with it.
Light burn going away is probably good.
However, something you didn't mention is that even more killer regression perks have gotten butchered... which means more killers are probably going to focus on murdering survivors asap. That along with DH changes... this patch is actively encouraging killers to tunnel, camp, and slug. Have fun with that I guess.

So nothing really changed for killers?
They already liked to tunnel.
1 -
What changed is what's been changing ever since patch 6.1. That being all alternatives to tunneling are getting nerfed into the dirt.
Pop, Ruin, Thana, Eruption all heavily nerfed. Now Pain Res, Call of Brine, and Overcharge are as well. By my count, that's nearly every slowdown that rewards chases, spreading pressure, and 3 genning made irrelevant.
If they keep deleting killers' other options, nobody should be surprised when killers start playing even meaner.
2 -
Those are not alternative. Those are just slowdowns.
Deadlock, no way out, jolt are still good.
Eruption with nowhere to hide is also good
Pain resonance is fine, but you can't just spam it whenever you can. You have to pay attention, I am lazy, so won't use it that much anymore.
CoB got nerfed into oblivion, but 3-gen was pain to deal with.
With medkits and CoH nerfed, hit&run is viable again, which is an alternative to tunneling.
1 -
They are alternatives. If you can buy back most the time you spent on a chase with Pop, then the need to turn the game into a 3v1 asap is much lower.
Yes... Deadlock... the one slowdown that keeps working no matter what you're doing... including tunneling and camping. That perk is suuuuuuuper healthy for the game.
Funnily enough, Eruption kinda encourages slugging now with when the Aura reading you get happens.
Pain Resonance got made to be wildly and horribly inconsistent. Some people will probably still run it but I can't imagine many will.
3 genning getting nerfed was probably a necessity. Stalling out a game for an hour isn't great. However they really should have made an effort to bring Pop back this patch.
Hit and run isn't viable. Thana is garbage for most killers and all the anti healing in the world won't do anything vs a team loaded with SB, Resilience, Prove Thyself, Adrenaline, and Tool boxes with maybe a Reassurance or two.

Pain reso wasn't something you could spam whenever you wanted. It was a reward for downing a survivor. The medkit change was needed and welcome. The coh nerf is nice for low and mid tier killers. Won't really matter at high tier anyway. People just stay injured and pound gens. Also it's op as all get out for swfs. But you can't balance around a swf anyway.
0 -
You can't balance around soloQ either. That would be really bad.
It's same like this for both sides:
-what will this change do with SWF
-what will this change do with Nurse

Nurse just needs nerfed. I'm sorry and I like her but Its infuriating when they nerf a perk for my pig just because it's op on the nurse.
1 -
They did nerf her, making her attack special and removal of range add-ons were good.
It doesn't really matter who is best killer. If you overnerf her, it will piss off people and nothing is going to change, next gatekeeper will be Blight, then Spirit etc.
There will always be some best killer. We don't really need overall killer buffs, just focus on specific killer buffs so everyone is happy.

Overzealous works with blessing too, so you can actually have 10% every time with no limits.

I agree mostly. Except about nurse. That was barely a nerf. Truly good nurses have 0 counterplay and they don't need anything beyond locater perks to turn you into survivor pudding. She breaks the very basic fundamentals of the game. Blight should be the strongest killer. He has counterplay at least.
0 -
Barely a nerf? The fact that she can't instadown you is kinda big deal and range add-ons were busted.
She is still best for sure, but those things were super annoying with her.
Counterplay against nurse is break line of sight, but that sadly depends on map.
I actually don't really mind playing against her. It's fun when you manage to pull off some mind games.
0 -
oh ok, i skipped that...
0 -
I don't mind playing against her either but if you come against a true master who knows all the counterplay there is it won't work against her.
0 -
Oh right, but I can say same about Blight mains. It's really hard to play against master Blight if you don't have full squad of equal level.
I have seen some gameplay from V1rtual_reality and it's insane what Blight can do.
But when I see that, I know they have on that character probably more hours than I have total, so understandable.

He is very strong but the difference between him and the nurse is he has counterplay. His mechanics mean if you position yourself correctly he can't get you with his power no matter how good he is. If you drop a god pallet he has to break it even if it's only a second you earn, every second counts for gens. If the nurse perfect blinks that's it. No god pallet is gonna help. No positioning is gonna do anything. If her blink lands it doesn't how strong the area is your taking the hit. I'm fine with a killer being super strong as long as their are ways to counter them even if those ways are hard. I'm willing to learn them. I used to think there was counterplay to nurse but those only work against low and mid tier. A really good nurse isn't going to care.
