BHVR is Losing Another License
Attack on Titan leaves fog. I don't know if we should worry about other licenses we have... First Stranger Things and now AoT.

I mean that's how licences work, they only stay if both parties can agree. I think the playerbase has been very naive assuming that licences are just always gonna stay.

Good thing we didn't have a map with this one. RIP Hawkins.

I'd rather have BHVR only add licenses that are not time limited from now when it comes to killers and maps.
14 -
I mean all licences are 'time-limited'. The licence-holders only agree to give BHVR the rights to the licence for a certain time, could be one year could be a few years. Near the end of that time BHVR and the licence-holders meet again to negotiate another contract and if they can't agree on one then the licenced content is removed from the store.
BHVR has actually done an amazing job at keeping the many licences they have for as long as they have. I feel like this is why so many people have gotten used to licences being forever and so if any of them leave it must be because BHVR has messed up.

Yeah , even offer a better cut to license holders if it takes . Make them the sponsor killers that will attract players rather than earn revenue from purchases. Its still a win win for BHVR.
I wonder weather the license killers have earned them more money by sheer purchases alone after the LH cut is removed when compared to all the revenue the players made elsewhere just from being attracted to the game by them.

With a Live service game, that would be impossible.
The joys of this type of game is that things can constantly change and unfortunately that does mean that sometimes things will have to be removed from sale, however if you own the content you will still retain it, you don't lose anything.

To be frank, I don't care much because this was license related.
I just don't like how BHVR started time limited cosmetics suddenly and made already existing cosmetics only purchasable in particular season.

We love FOMO, don't we?
3 -
it's just a bunch of skins who cares
2 -
People who loves skins care.
5 -
Some people care. If you don't , good for you.
5 -
And of nothing of value was lost
Smokin on that AoT pack once again
4 -
That's why I like original content, not licensed ones

Not too concerned about licensed cosmetics coming and going, tbh. Especially if shorter/riskier contracts allows them to get more deals for unique things.
Killers, survivors and maps are an entirely different story and so far Bhvr has done a fantastic job retaining those.

I mean it's only a few cosmetics losing those are okay sucks that they become exclusive now but it's better than a chapter

Each license is a different case. There’s no immediate reason for any others to follow suit, but there’s also no guarantee others won’t dip.

This isn't a surprise, this is how anime licensing currently is. DOA5 also got skins and maps from AoT. Those were sold in packs with other cosmetics, and when the license was up the packs stopped being sold and the other non-AoT cosmetics became unpurchasable as well, so that one really sucked and I'm still salty about it.
Anyway, for most anime series licenses work per season, so after a year the license is up and if the new season of the anime is being done by a different production company then that new company is who you have to negotiate with. Anime is messy, and it's not like licensing American properties.

What is the logic behind gate-keeping your own content with original time-limited collections? (Ugly sweaters, etc...)

I am heartbroken 😭 This is such an amazing collaboration. It is very saddening to see it leave :(
I don't understand why the AoT license holders wouldn't want to continue this... it's FREE money, for f's sake. 😞
1 -
This isnt what this is at all but if you need something to complain about then go ahead 👍

I have a feeling the Slipnot and Iron Maiden cosmetics will be time limited like this. Have license for a year (maybe) and then remove from store.
1 -
Pretty sure that removing content falls under the very definition of Fear of Missing Out.
And FOMO is always worth complaining about, in my book.
3 -
While in some way it could bee seen as "FOMO", but stuff like this is out of BHVR's control.
If a license holder wants something gone, there isn't much BHVR can do.
3 -
Yes, this is probably similar to the Stranger Things deal.
Still brings FOMO, which is a major downside on the community.
1 -
I definitely don't want to see an actual chapter go down again, but this is just some clothes, so it doesn't seem like a big deal.

Maybe it's just me but I expected this?
I always assumed we were gonna get more and more cosmetic exclusive licenses that would go away eventually like a huge amount of online games
2 -
What "FOMO" mean?
0 -
"Fear of missing out" One of the cores of modern advertising.
1 -
Ahhh
thank you

Unfortunate, but if I decide to get back into DBD before July 18, I'll be sure to grab them or at least some of them.
0 -
The license was likely just a 12 month one, and paying for it again when sales of these outfits are probably low now doesn't make sense for a business trying to turn a profit
1 -
After the ST debacle, you would think they are now aware that every collab they made in the past and in the future has a chance of bringing FOMO on them and try to avoid that again. It seems they have poor sight, that AoT collab lasted barely one year.
0 -
Yeah but this isnt up to them??
What happened to this license is what happened to Stranger Things. The license is being pulled and thats not up to BHVR.
2 -
Anime licences are known to be a pain when it comes to crossovers. I blame the AoT owners for the outfits to be pulled out, but I also blame BHVR for not seeing this coming. It was so predictable.

So youre angry just because you want to be
Got it 👍

What makes you think they weren't aware that something like this would happen? They've worked with licenses for about 30 years now since they've made games for other companies as well as working with licenses for their own games. Situations like these happens and quite frankly it's just the nature of how these things are, to suggest that bhvr wasn't aware of something like this seems rather naive of you to believe.
Also by your logic, we might as well just stop bringing in licenses altogether while we're at it since they could potentially be pulled one day even though it's one of the biggest appeals this game has for many people.
5 -
There are enough people sobbing about it and it wouldn't make sense to be laughing. So yeah, I'm angry at this predictable and sad outcome.
0 -
So you would of rathered that the collab never happened?
2 -
It's probably just business, AoT licence costs BHVR X per year, the numbers say they will make less than X in AoT skin sales for the next year, save that money for another new licence that will make money.
2 -
Yes. It looks like this collaboration will do more harm to the game than everyone thought.

one can only pray that pinhead is next
2 -
More and more time limited stuff all across DBD. Not good.
1 -
Omg, I want the Zarina skin :( I love Hange.
0 -
To be honest I wouldn't expect DBD fanbase and AOT fanbase to overlap with each other. I for one did plan to get the Zarina skin since I love the character. The rest of the characters I am not in love with, maybe if they had also given Nea a skin like Pieck (but that is way too niche) I would also consider her, female Titan might have also been cool for a killer.
I'd definitely buy the Devil May Cry ones if they ever get the rights for the RE characters.
1 -
So with that Id assume you also have a problem with every single license this game has
4 -
So they should just remove it from the store without saying anything. That way you don't feel fear but regret. Or nothing, not everyone holds value in these types of things.
Nothing last forever. Licenses expire and eventually this game will end support. Every cosmetic goes away as the last server powers off. Such is the fate of live service games.
4 -
I’m honestly surprised that it took this long to remove them. Most cosmetic collabs in games are only limited time but this lasted a few years.
Also unlike Stranger Things, this actually has a chance to come back at some point even if it’s just as a limited time sale.
0 -
One year. They came out July 19 2022 and are leaving July 19 2023. Likely just a 12 month licensing agreement that's ending.
1 -
Note to self: Never cave in to collaboration cosmetics again. I'm not doing this a second time after buying all the Stranger Things cosmeticslol. IDC if this was a licensing issue, all I know is that limited-time store cosmetics started becoming a trend after it was brought up in one of the past surveys and this is sadly looking to be the norm from here out lol

Eh, the only AOT skins I liked were Mikasa, Hange, and Historia. I only have Mikasa but I'll probably get Hange and Historia when they go on sale
