Imagine if repairing gens was a rhythm mini-game
Then we could stop saying repairing gens takes no skill.

I don't know how hyped I would be for that... One of my friends has psychomotor issues that prevent him from being very reactive. As it is the skillchecks are fine (though the end of second hook phase is a little bit of a struggle to him, so it's always better to unhook him early), but if they were more frequent and in rythm, he'd probably be unable to complete them.
If the current skillchecks were kept as an accessibility feature for those who need them, and as long as it doesn't prevent players from looking around for stealth killers, I'd see no problem !

Maybe it could be how toolboxes work. As it is now toolboxes don't change the mechanics of gens (besides BNP), so perhaps using strong toolboxes started a rhythm sequence?
I just feel it would really fit with gens as they're pretty bland atm. My other issue would be latency.

Give me generator Osu or give me death

Then we'd really need designated gen-jokeys that specialize in repairing. I'd like to see what Doc could come up with to make it hard to do gens (invisible rhythm game?)

Meh, i think the fun of the game comes from chases and player interaction and something like a minigame while doing gens might be interesting, but it also kinda takes away from the feel of the game.
Doing gens is an objective, but the goal is to Survive.

I just proposed an idea to add more skill expression to gens and make them less boring and more engaging for people who might not like chases. I personally still would prefer chases even if this was the case with gens, so I'm not sure survivors who enjoy interacting with the killer will care much.

I would like that but we would need some sort of option to opt out of ddr for those that are slower or just don't wanna

Your idea would make an excellent perk

I think it would be more appropriate to opt in to it, kind of how it is with wiggling. And maybe it giving you some sort of a small reward for playing that way. (idk, more BP if you have it enabled?)

If accessibility is a concern, perhaps use the character movement keys in some manner instead of the skill-check button? If rapid inputs are still a concern, maybe focus on smooth slow movements following a path, akin to following/moving wires or a circular wrench motion?
I don't think it necessarily needs to be a fast-paced rhythm. But some kind of movement that's evocative of the animations being shown to the player while on a generator.

I agree. Plus the simplicity of it helps the tension in what should be atmospheric horror. Player should be looking around whilst doing gen not feeling bored enough/only superficially engaged to tap out rhythms. It's why VHS failed, it tried to over-egg the pudding with gimmicks.

it actually pisses me off that with all these perks and gen regression addons the game has turned into a skillcheck simulator. if you suggest making it even worse, no thanks. I like to run and rescue with pallets and a lantern, and not pass reaction tests

Identity V released a survivor somewhat recently that replaces the regular skill checks with a rhythm game kind of thing and he's REALLY fun. You get up to a 20% cipher decode bonus if you can keep the combo going. He also gets a speed boost ability for hitting his tuning fork which also requires a small rhythm minigame.
I don't know if it'd transfer well in dbd though, IDV are known for their crazy concepts when it comes to hunter/survivor abilities. It'd be really cool if there was a perk that did something similar though.

anything that could make repairing gens require more efforts would be welcome on the killer's side for sure.
Right now, with the current gen rush / MFT+Hope meta, survivors have it way too easy.
