People VPN-ing
Can there finally be something done against people VPN-ing??? Why am I getting matched up with people from the US when I'm on EU servers???
They're getting the most BS hit-validations THROUGH pre-dropped pallets?? Like HOW? Why?? On average I have between 25-30 ping, so to have matches against people who are just vpn-ing is beyond frustrating

unfortunately ive heard people on steam can get other steam users' ips, a lot of people run them just for safety so i doubt anything will be done against it

Punishing people for trying to avoid getting DDOSed isn’t the way to go.

I went against a killer who might have been using a VPN today. I kept rubberbanding every chase and it really sucked.

Matches just shouldn’t start if anyone’s ping is higher than 120 ms, it should try to match you in lobbies where everyone has below that only

This is a whole different subject though. It shouldn't be up to the players to protect themselves against getting DDOSed, it's BHVRs job to protect their players 😅
Agreed.

There problem with not letting matches start if someone has 120ms is that for a lot of non VPN players that is their baseline ping due to how BHVR handles regions. Like the EU server region actually has players from different regions due to those regions just getting folded into EU servers.

You can VPN to your own country and keep the ping relatively the same.
5 -
Agreed. I like the idea above about not starting the game if someone's ping is above a certain level

Well BHVR needs to get on that, but until they do, there’s no need to punish players trying to avoid it with a VPN.
The OP is suggesting to punish any player with a VPN. How exactly can they track if they’re VPNing to a different region or not if they can’t find their initial IP?

even though I sympathize I must say, VPN is about online safety. Nothing should be done by BHVR in response to this as it could jeopardize people’s online safety

You rubberbanding has nothing to do with the killer.

How is asking for something to be done against players with VPN, thus high ping, the same as asking for them to be punished in your head??? That doesn't even make sense.
Don't twist my words into some BS.
You want to use VPN? Fine, get matched with people of your own ping then, but not with others with VASTLY DIFFERENT PING so you can abuse hit-validation and a whole lot of other things. Unless you're the lot that thrives on bs games BECAUSE you're using vpn and not so much because of "online safety".

This. One of the few in this topic that seems to actually get it.

Please just show Ping for all players in the lobby. We can make the decision to play or not with the 200 latency Feng, or the 150 latency Killer. There is nothing worse than laggy matches, but if I just ran into a slugging Sadako, I certainly wouldn't want to risk that 150 ping Killer to be a laggy Huntress hitting me through walls and around corners. It typically favors Killer, so I don't mind it as much except when playing Ghosty. You get the same laggy Huntress through walls effect with reveals when playing Ghosty.

I wasn’t trying to twist your words. Perhaps I misread and I apologize. It’s just that I am still concerned BHVR is still not fixing other issues that cause these things to happen.
I think high ping in general needs to be looked at because don’t get me wrong, I too find it very frustrating getting hit from a football field away.

It definitely had something to do with it. I've got really fast internet speed and hadn't experienced anything like it since 2020 bit go off random internet expert, lmao.

The killer is not the host, so even if they have horrible connection, it won't cause you to rubberband. That is entirely due to your connection with the server.

I'll always advocate for an option to select your own server so you aren't queue'ing into some random region but I do think Valve & BHVR need to crack down on the amount of DDOSing going on with Steam. I've recently had to put anon mode back on because it's starting to happen again. I've heard Epic is much safer though.
On another hand, I felt the same way about punishing VPNs but in reality BHVR needs to fix hit validation. Bad ping is supposed to affect your performance but for killers it gives them an advantage on this game.

Dont call it VPNing like its some crazy strat, their just avoiding ddos

What BVHR needs to do is hire a white hat to come in and fix their server security. Will it be expensive? Yes. But it needs to be done. I have a friend who is a white hat and she took 5 min of research to tell me full details of the security issues BHVR servers have. That is of course all I can say here about it, but she also told me that as long as your IP is not already compromised, a VPN will 100% protect you.
So yes, those that use VPNs are the smart ones, and for BHVR to in any way prevent the use of a VPN would kill the game and make it unplayable for many players, including every one of their Fog Whisperers.

It's both unfortunatelly

You keep telling yourself that kiddo.

Then explain how someone who is in no way connected to you is causing YOUR rubberbanding rather than rubberbanding themselves, KIDDO...

It also goes the other way round.
I don't get a much needed grab at a 99% Gen but the hit (even if the animation started for a good bit) and during my weapon cooldown they finish the Gen.
But when I play I just tap anything and get instantly grabbed.

Problem with that is, that there is corners of the world where players don't get a better connection, because the nearest server is too far: South America (outside of Brazil), Middle East, Central Asia, South Africa etc.

i don't agree with the "match doesn't load when someone is above ___ ping threshold" i play with friends who are able to put me to 150-250 ping and i deal with it because i like playing with my friends. y'alls suggestion would just mean i could literally never load into a match with my friends again which is a take and a half. there's better ways to deal with this, i'm sure.

This. I faced a Bubba a while ago who still hit me clearly through my predropped pallet without getting stunned. I am at 30ms.... Your could see the latency by the stuttering when he picked up.
Also the famous 5km hit through windows is something that needs to be fixed. It can't be that I have done 2 steps after vaulting and still get hit via M1...

You're all good. Sorry, I was a bit frustrated by my games back then 😅 But yes, high pings really need to be looked into, same as so many people getting DDOS-d.
Either you haven't been playing this game for long enough or not at times when this has happened. I remember back when old Haddonfield with its infinite loops still existed (around that time), people used VPN-ing for such strats a lot. Same as lag switching. Both of these issues became less prevalent after some of the changes BHVR started incorporating, but on EU servers this type of thing still happens. Don't get me wrong of course there are also people who just use VPN for their own safety.
