It's time for map offerings to go

I roll my eyes every time I play survivor and I get sent to Midwich by a 3-gen Merchant or Knight, and just the same way, I roll my eyes every time I'm on killer as a survivor decides to send me to Garden/Eyrie/Badham.

There is no excuse for map offerings to still exist in the game, considering how unbalanced maps are, as it just gives one side an opportunity to send themselves to a map that is most favorable for them. Instead, we should make it so map offerings REDUCE the chances of going to a specific realm.

3 gens being removed would just make killers exponentially worse for no valid reason gen macro gameplay is one of the more important parts of the game and should stay they just need to add a mechanic that forces either surv/killer to do something if there isn't any actual interaction going on.

My honest feeling is you can't really have any kind of level select system where there aren't gonna be people who are gonna try and screw with the other side by sending them to the most annoying place they can...

However, I do feel like you should have some kind of level select system. With there being various objectives/challenges in DBD that hinge on maps (such as achievements, tome challenges, dailies for killers/actions that are highly map dependent, etc, etc), you do need some kind of method of going where you need.

I don't feel like DBD is a game that lasts long enough most of the time to get really upset about being sent to a particular map. If you're a Killer, your issue is usually the game not being long enough, and if you're a survivor, being incredibly risky will get you killed fast.

They need to ensure each Realm has multiple maps or variations of that map. Make those variations different enough that some of considered survivor sided and some considered killer sided.

This way, running any given map offering doesn't give either side a certain advantage, RNG is still as much of a factor as always, but you retain the choice of setting, and the general format of a map (indoor/outdoor, open/cluttered)

Until maps are all balanced and same size yes I agree. Or at least give map offering only 33.33333% chance of going to that map.

As a survivor main, I agree. It's so annoying to have to switch every game

Map offerings are just a symptom of the underlying problem unfortunately. Also, with Map-specific achievements, I don't think they could be practically removed.

BHVR should work at rebalancing the problematic maps for both sides. Until then, I guess we just have to Alt + F4 when an annoying map offering shows up.

I disagree, I enjoy map offerings. The issue isn’t the offerings, the issue is map design. If the maps were balanced well offerings wouldn’t be an issue.

I think map offerings are fine. A lot of builds are map dependent. I love doing all hex perk hag on Lerys, for example. And survivors have fun with boil over on Crotus Prenn. Being able to tailor your build to a specific map is part of the fun and unique charm to the game. I think being able to do stuff like that is great.

Maps are unbalanced, sure, but I don't think it's fair to ban map offerings because of that. It's overkill and addresses the symptom of the problem, and not the problem. My only criticism would be to have more killer sided maps that let us do fun builds.

Do you Alt + F4 when you end up on annoying maps without an offering?

    If not, why?

Is it just because of the DC penalty?

Or is it because the map isn't actually that bad? And you're just quitting out of spite, because the act of playing an offering tilted you?

DC penalty, mainly. You can't really quit constantly if you get maps you don't like but I am not playing on Midwich or Lampkin Lane if I can help it.

It is true that the real issue is bad map design (good examples are Garden Of Joy, Midwich, and all Badhams). In theory, instead of removing map offerings, they should rework all of these problematic maps. However, this is very unlikely because a) look how long it takes for the devs to rework bad maps such as the swamp maps and the farmmap got reworked twice to balanced it, b) some maps are licensed maps, and c) they release nearly every 3 month a new map so they are rather bussy with new maps instead of focusing on the current maps (I'm not blaming them for doing that because maybe they have no other choice).

It is also no validate point that they can't remove map offering due to achivments. Removing achivements is possible and I think it is better to remove achivments when we get better gameplay by removing map offering. So yes, I agree with removing map offering because it is for both sides often not funny.

I agree. It's boring even on the survivor end. Playing on the auto wreckers map three times in a row gets boring af. Just remove all of them and make it random.

sorry but I disagree. you can use offerings as both sides (which is fair) and maybe I just like play in gideon and garden of joy as survivor, midwich and lery's as killer?

I don't doubt you like playing on those maps. I too like being given easy wins. However, it shouldn't be up to either side's volition whether or not they will get an easy win that game.

If all the maps are so imbalanced then why the heck does anyone care which one they get sent to? I like map offerings. I only play them when I’m in the mood for a certain as ambiance, when I haven’t seen a map in a while or if it’s an event and the map fits the theme.

You can always bring the offering to cancel map offerings if you’re worried some SWF are all gonna bring the same one. I had a match not long ago where 2 survivors and the killer each played a different map offering - we ended up going to the killer’s map of choice. Strangely enough, it was Ormond.

Ideally I’d pick Coal Tower myself. It’s a fair chance of winning for both sides. I do generally like Midwich on both sides though.

It is not only about the maps, it's about that one side that brings a map offering is prepared to play on this map - they know how this map works and which perks and strategy pairs well with it. This is the big issue and the reason why this is possible are map offerings.

I don't want to use a green hand (I don't even have enough green hand offerings to use them every match) everytime just in case the survivors could send me to a map. The survivors don't need to be a full SWF ( I mean if you think this is a swf and they likely use a map offering, you could just dodge the lobby but what's that?) to give the killer a bad time due to a map offering. Same goes for the survivor side, I don't want to use a green hand just in case it could be a Midwich-Condemned-Sadako, Skull Merchant or McMillien Blight. You can never tell if the Killer brings a map offering to give the survivors a bad time. I just want to use BP-Offerings and have a good match. Not a match where I have to play against survivors that are prepaired for a match on Garden Of Joy.

You can play map offerings as well. I’m sorry you don’t like them but I don’t think there’s good grounds for removal.

How about because it's boring? I don't want to have to bring an offering each match just so I'm not stuck playing the same two or three maps constantly.

  • DavidHypnos

You don’t have to. Map offerings aren’t that common to begin with.

I literally see them in 3/5 games when I play late night games on killer.

Honestly I think the game would be better if it was just randomised. Even if it doesn't occur all the time, avoiding sessions that have the same maps clustered together would be nice.

But in the Winter/Christmas I like making everyone go to Ormond a lot..with either my snowy Survivor cosmetics or Krampus Trapper lol

But you're right and I get tired of offerings too, even when playing survivor..I don't enjoy the same maps as most survs apparently...I don't wanna go to Badham or RPD on repeat

  • DavidHypnos

I see them maybe a few times a month. I can understand why you don’t like them but it becomes one of those things where it’s one side vs another. One side enjoys them - I like playing them during events or around holidays or when I haven’t seen a map for a while that I like. Why is it fair to remove something a lot of people enjoy just because others don’t when it’s not affecting them that much? Map generation is random anyway so there’s always a chance you’re going to go to the same one anyway. Furthermore, there are a lot of killers I don’t like playing against but the other side still gets to choose who they play as. Letting players have a chance to decide where they go is not detrimental to the game; it might be annoying to some but it’s not broken by any means.
